mrjohan Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 Bought a very cheap 1665 rep from Silix with Asian 21J movement. Did some minor vintage mods on it and I think it turned out pretty nice! I know it has several flaws, but for the money and effort (low) put on the mods I find it a great everyday watch. Bleaching the bezel insert, some softening of the edges and a new acrylic crystal from Sternkreutz. That's all.
mrjohan Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Posted April 10, 2012 Thanks! It's nice to know that you can do something like this for very cheap money. This is what it was a few weeks ago.
TeeJay Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 That's a real beauty Might you be able to post a link to the sales page? I tried looking on the site, but the only a21j 1665 listed on the site, te sales photos are of something more like a 16610 than a 1655 Would absolutely love a 1665 like that at a budget price point
Nanuq Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 You know, with the thin bezel that would make a killer starting point for a 5514 ...........
spooky driver Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Looking good..... Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
mrjohan Posted April 11, 2012 Author Report Posted April 11, 2012 I got the ROL054 http://www.silix-prime.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=116_205_213&products_id=1972. The caseback was not the one shown on the website. I got the one with "ROLEX OYSTER - Original Gas Escape Valve" and I got a gas escape valve in the case + a crystal (that I changed) without date magnifier. They have quite old pictures on some of the watches, so try send a picture of what you want instead and the should be able to find it.

Sorry for the delay, but thankyou for the link Even though I had a bad experience with Silix in the past, at this pricepoint, I may just have to let bygones be bygones, and pull the trigger when cash allows
archierocks Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 :g: :g: :g: :g: $65.00 you really cant go wrong there for a base to build from can you
ArkoN Posted April 21, 2012 Report Posted April 21, 2012 ohh silix seems to have a nicer comex with lugholes and a better dail :-)
woof* Posted April 21, 2012 Report Posted April 21, 2012 Hmmm The watch at your link doesn't have an hev valve like yours does. It also says mineral crystal. Are you sure that's the watch you bought?
