claws413
Hi. I'm new here and want to purchase my first rep. Was thinking of picking up a sea dweller great white from trusty time. Was wondering what anyone's thoughts were on this watch. Any comments are welcome. Thanks!
997 s
First question What is your budget....? Trusty good but if you are going high there is better reps on SD
claws413
Planned on spending 300-400. Im just starting out and would like to see all my options. I do like the vintage look so would love some other ideas where to find one.
997 s
I suggest DS from Trusty. Aroubs 400 i think If u want to double your investment BK DS is a good option The vintage ones is around 300-400 but needs heavy modfication to be ok
perry563
The GWSD is the vintage piece. I suggest to email Narikea and ask for a MBW. It will be around 400 and it should have a gen Swiss movement. You can then when you have the extra cash send along to Pb for lug hole drilling, CG mod, new insert and pearl, and clarke crystal, and case softening. So you invest maybe 700 in total and you will really have something special.
Donerix 2.0
MBW is the way to go IMHO. I have mine since 3 years and never had a problem. It's my go-to-water-watch. Had it out surfing today
FxrAndy
I would sugest an mbw also you can do the mods slowly in time and spread the cost but you will end up with something worth the sum of its parts if not a bit more in the end
dieselpower
I have invested in an MBW 1665 and have never regretted it. In fact the only thing I regret is the money I spent on a cartel 1665 before getting my MBW which was money wasted.

Same here. It's the best option out there ATM and does take gen parts if one wish to spice it up a bit further.. Not to mention it passing 3atm with flying colours (well, mine does at least) - which even a rep diver should IMHO..
its_urabus
Andy that's so hot! if you ever want to part with her, just give me a shout
Ephry73
All great watches. The gwsd is the best of both worlds and always a classic. Good on any type of suit(wetsuit or dress) and looks great with a pair of jeans as well. Mbw is the way to go. Get the Asian 2836 and save money for something else. The a2836 is a great movement for the money. EEric, where were you surfing at?
fredfree
same here, want to buy one. how about perfect clones ? There is a known modder around here that mentions it is a good base for modding. Also : isn't the 28800 bph movement wrong for a vintage like this ? Shouldn't it go with a lower beats mvmnt ? Sent. Jkay
Yes that's correct. You need to buy a vintage ETA movement with a lower beat rate and place it into this watch for greater authenticity. An $80 eBay purchase inside of a beat up old watch.
FxrAndy
The only start point i would use for a GWSD is an MBW, as has been said above any other you would regret later one the more you learnt about building GW
fredfree
too late. Just purchased a 118 $ Asian 2813-2880 from perfect clones that I will send to RolexAddict for mods in September. Sent.
FxrAndy
Oh well you had better know that you will never get the lug holes right as they are just too low
fredfree
Oh well you had better know that you will never get the lug holes right as they are just too low I can live with that, but BTw there are 2 models on p.clones one is called alternative V and seems to have higher lug holes + 21600 mvmnt which is more accurate in a vintage watch...even if not spot on with the gen. FxrAndy
The gen ticks at 19800
fredfree
The gen ticks at 19800 Sure, that's why 21600 is more accurate but not spot on. Sent.
modelizer
All other current rep GW's is just gateway drugs to highly modded/ frankenized MBW GW's..

modelizer
You can't put old heads on young shoulders. It's hard work but possible so don't blame me for at least trying..
claws413
Thanks for all the advice. Looks like i will be investing in an MBW in the near future. As a side note a friend of mine just gave me his rep sea dweller as he just picked up a gen one. Its the one listed on trustys site as classic sea dweller. It has a 2836 Asian mvmnt in it with "sapphire" crystal. Does anyone know if this will take gen parts or should i start a new topic for this?
