Man, the 70's was a good time for music! thats only cause you aren't listening to the new music There are less rock stars that have universal non- muscian appeal, but that is true across the board, i think its more the way music is marketed - i mean there are no Guitar Hero's that your average idiot on the street can identify. I heard a good interview regarding Nicco McBrain. He would not use a double pedal to do Clive's parts, and struggled until he could do them with single pedals on the two drums. He thought double pedals were cheating, nothing a real drummer would do. Why no mentions of Bonzo? Ok showing my age here but my alll time favourite is in fact Buddy Rich. Ken no my father swears by him. Here is my top story top compliment ever. I sat in with a jazz big band a few years ago - i played a song that was nto a hard core swing tune, but one that buddy rich used to play. Mercy Mercy mercy After the tune - i hear a "where did you come from man" - from the back row -a trumpet player - Thought i had a great groove. That guy - was at my college under scholarship getting a masters - he got that scholarship as a "ringer' cause he was a touring member of the buddy rich big band. That was the greatest compliment i ever got we had a jam band for a few months - we met really early in the morning. - i never got to try to go tot he level i would have wanted in music - But, thanks to this and a few other things, i have peace with it Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Drumcorps (snare drum) from 9yrs old until 21 (age out yr). Taught a few during the summer until around 2001. Marched with the best of them on the DCI circuit if anyone knows about Drumcorps that is.. but Im sure someone has. Not a single rudiment I cannot play straight, dragged, flammed, inverted you name it.. too bad I dont play too much anymore....losing the chops to play mad fast like that... but I can still groove!! Gone thru 3 sets as a kid. biggest was 12 piece (not including cymbals of course). Have a nice Yamaha DXTIIS I use now hooked up to PC running Sonar software. Biggest influences. You won't hear it on the radio, but there are many stellar drummers coming out every day. There are many great newer drummers in thrash, death, speed, etc. metal types.
