chango
The Parnis stuff on eBay looks close.
jpz5142
I've never bought any of their stuff, but clearly they have a supply of some of the same stuff the rep makers use. Visually they look just like reps, at least the cheaper reps. If anyone has any of their stuff chime in, quality?
zero_deficit
I had a Parnis DSSD that was definitely from BP fac. Didn't get a chance to look under the hood, but it was described as having a Sea-Gull mvt, and was silky smooth when I wound it
Mike on a bike
I have a Parnis 200m diver, ceramic bezel ,sapphire crystal, very happy with it. As far as where made who knows. FYI has not seen the water yet. On bracelet:
chango
I ordered an auto diver and a quarts chrono for on-duty beater watches. Pretty decent quality for the price. I was wondering the relationship because if they're related I was going to try using one a a parts donor.
jpz5142
Mike - thats a nice diver, I was eyeballing that on the bay. I really like it on that leather nato, hows that bracelet? typical rep quality or a bit better? I'm guessing there's little to no lume on that? jamesfl
This is a great topic. I have often wondered the same myself. I assumed the rep parts probably originated from the same factory.
Mike on a bike
ipz got on cheap rep leather so unknown . Just took it out that was an old pic, nice case polished top lugs satin brush case sides, Lum: hands pearl that is it no markers as I remember doesn't last that long. Fit & finish in general very good at least on the one I have . Good bang for the buck IMHO. PS I have it on a buffalo leather Nato custom made a lot thicker than reg Natos had a hell of a time threading through.
SSTEEL
I often wondered the very same. Looks like there is a connection after all.
Mike on a bike
If you go on the bay and look at ones for sale dead ringers for reps just sterile dials. check out this page http://www.ebay.com/sch/qifa2009/m.html?item=181201776523&pt=Wristwatches&hash=item2a3077af8b&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562
big0spin
Quite like the sterile versions, had a Pam radiomir variant ages ago, good strong beater watch, my lad wears it now, only cost around £50 off eBay. If anyone's ever heard of getat watch (Tat), he used to be a good source http://www.siswatch727.com
chango
I got this. Looks pretty fun for a beater watch.
panerai153
That's a great front for building reps, if this is indeed the case. Have a nice well equipped factory, build sterile legit watches on the day shift, and build reps on the second shift! watches are exactly the same except for dials and rehaut engraving. If the police show up, with a few minutes warning, the reps disappear and everyone is working on the legit sterile dial watches. Great idea. Mike on a bike
Just get the right dial and drop it in save a bundle.
Mike on a bike
Bigspin, yes been at that site before.
chango
That was my thought too pan153. I thought for sure someone would have confirmed our suspicion. But the. Maybe better left a mystery. I am still curious about how interchangeable the parts are.
markiemark
I always wondered if Parnis watches are "legal" because they are using original designs of luxury brand watches. See the GMT above...
Noel Fleischer
I remember reading that Getat and Jackson had problems with Panerai because of the CG copyright infringement. I think they're still around as before.
chango
Nice to look at but definitely not even close to the reps we're used to. Bi-directional bezel with a "plastic" feel to the ratcheting. Low end 17-21J seagull movement? Nonetheless a pretty decent beater. I took it for a surf too. So far so good. Mike on a bike
chango looks good the movement in mine ( in the raffle by the way) is the 2836 ETA clone; http://www.watchitallabout.com/parnis-200m-diver-watch-review/
chango
I haven't opened this one but I'd eat my hat if it was a 2836 clone. Way too choppy. The watch survived the ocean so far but my first time with a nato in the water and I don't recommend it unless you like scraping surf wax out of the rings and strap holes.
