Finally found a nice 1016!

After a lot of reading here i finally found a nice 1016, this was on my wannahave list for a long time!

Funny thing is i own several gen rolex watches and was looking for a gen 1016 but just on purpose i found this cool website and a whole rep world opened for me! ofcourse i knew the cheap chinese reps that you see people selling on the corners when you are on holiday but i didnt heard about real fanatics who build the finest reps and frankens like you guys.

Like is said my search started to find a gen 1016 but what i learned is that with vintage you can never  be sure its all real, even in the higher price range(almost all without documentation)

Then i found the stories of jmb and lhooq about the nice 1016s they build and their knowhow, ofcourse i asked jmb if he can build me one but unfortunately he didnt had the time.

lhooq advised me to buy the mbk version from narikaa but contact with him went very difficult.

Then somebody here from the forum offered me this nice piece that jmb builded, i sended the pics to the lhooq and jmb and they both gave me the green light to go for it!

Here are the specs: jmb case, mbk dial(but both were not sure about this), clarks crystal, drilled
lug holes, jmb custom Bezel, eta 2824.

Only thing i want to change is the bracelet, i prefer the riveted 7206 but couldnt find anyone selling it(yuki is not selling it anymore), if somebody has one please let me know;) or maybe i go for a black nato.

Also i like the gilt dials but i am not that handy to change it myself, or maybe  vintaging this dial?

jmb and lhooq! thanx again for your time and help!

Congratulations on a fine watch and LHOOQ and jmb are two fine guys as far as I'm concerned. They helped me build a very fine 1016- jmb made the bezel and LHOOQ sold me the great relumed dial.

For a bracelet, you might try the 7836- it's the folded link predecessor to the 78360, but after the 7206. I got mine with the Josh 1655 Asian for around $150+. I then built a 1675 out of the 1655 case also.

Thanx you all!

i prefer the riveted because i think(i am not sure if you can take the pens out like a normal bracelet) you can take some links out then because i have very small wrists, i think with the folded you can only adjust on the clasp.correct me if i am wrong?

Thanx, but thats to difficult for me :( at this time

maybe after a lot of reading here i will have the guts to experiment with my watch, i also have to do some study about how to change a dial and buy some good tools for the job.

Does anybody have tips where to  buy tools?

JMB has made a few of those great bezels. A'la riveted bracelet. JMB furnished the bracelet, as well. It has been a good and quiet bracelet. No holes in the rivets though.

(Yes...those are H5 wheels and they are likely to stay that way until I need them for something else.)

The rivet bracelet above is really good if you are not a purist.  The links are fatter than the "real" ones but they have adjustable links with screws.

Congratulations, a really nice choice!

I do have the MBW 1016 and almost got all parts for the JMB based 1016.

Both routes MBW or JMB case set are extremely interesting, changes between the cases for example are small but significant.

I would recommend both alternatives :)

Funny thing is I do remember the introduction pictures, someone had teseted them out on a gen forum  last year and got "called out" pretty fast ...

In general as this hobby is quite specific, these watches should be "shared"/ worn in specific situations!

Like for example with cloths...

I do have kind of my own philosophy "every watch has its special moment, where and when it can be worn" (this applies even to genuines in my opinion).

Wear it often and in good health!

I treated mine with some chain wax (White Lightning Clean Ride) and it is very gen feeling, for a 40 year old bracelet...solid, no jingle.  Watches should not jingle, LOL.  I like it.

The MBW 1016 is a great out-of-the-box Explorer, but I have to give the edge to JMB's case.  It's upgradeable (it will take a gen-spec crystal), cheaper, and more accurate, after modding.

after a week of wear, i am still very satisfied! especially about the ETA, keeps time very well.

With my gen datejust and 114270  i always have a difference of +/- 2min after a few days.

Funny thing is all my friends  think its a gen, even when i tell them its not they think i am joking.

today i also found out something funny about my bracelet, it says 114270 and 16628, endlinks 455B.

I thought maybe its a rep of the 114270 bracelet but on my gen 114270 there are no numbers on the bracelet, even not on the endlinks??

Well, now that's odd.
