There is no crystal over the wood... what purpose would this server?

I tried one of these on back in December and it was just stunning... Hopefully they execute this one well. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

LOL you must have tried on a rep than.....

From IWC Website:

"A tiny wooden disc is the feature that makes the 2500 watches in the Aquatimer Chronograph “Cousteau Divers” limited edition such a sought-after rarity. The wood was taken from the interior of what is probably the world’s most famous research vessel, the “Calypso”. For it was with her that “Commander” Jacques-Yves Cousteau spent so many years sailing the Seven Seas. The authentic mementos depict the ship in silhouette and are set in the watch’s solid steel back cover, where they are visible behind a sapphire glass."

Oh and you to answer your question, it would serve the purpose of PRESERVING THE PRECIOUS, IRREPLACEABLE WOOD you just paid a sh*t load of money for..... ^_^

Yes, it does double sided coating. Also, concerning the bracelet, it's the same but different at where it attaches to the watch. My son has one of these (real) and I'll ask him to send some photos to me and post them. Tim

Well, I said I would send along a photo of my son's gen. Sorry he isn't all that great on taking photos. You really can't tell much.

I may have to cannibalize the yacht for that one of a kind upgrade. Just hope the wife doesn't notice.

Don't worry too much about the wood. We can get a solid metal caseback on the rep, add a crystal protector and tell everyone it's part of the Calypso's hull :whistling:

Meh I wouldnt care as much about the case back i.e. I dont care if they age the wood or just stain some pine... 99.5% of the time people are looking at the what as its on your wrist therefore the case back wont be visible.

I hope its coming soon...

I have diving trip planned for end of April and would love to do the hardcore test and take this rep to 20 m or so.... is it going to be that water resistant or is it a bad idea ???

:o ... I think that is a very bad idea!

IMO, you shouldn't even keep this thing near the sink, much less 20m below the surface.

are you serious ? I mean i know its gonna be a rep, but most of the newer ones are water resistant, like i went swimming with my pam 111h about two months ago, not paying any attention on not crawling and so....the baby survived without any problems...

You would certainly be silly to take it diving or swimming for that matter before having a watchsmith make sure all the seals are properly greased and sealed. I do take virtually all of my watches swimming but not before having Ziggy properly go over them. He, of course, tells me not to do it but I haven't had an issue yet. ;)

Thanks for your feedback guys.

You convinced me (that waht easy actually) I wont take it for diving, but certainly for some light swimming i guess....

Actually i was always wondering if people who own the gen Cousteau actually do use it for diving. I would if i could afford the gen....

I wonder if there is any chance of seeing a replicated bracelet? I'm not a big fan of the rubber.....

If its pure rubber then dust and crap wont stick to it .. its the rubber mix that will have dust etc stick to it ... i wasnt a fan of rubber but this one is an exception - also its heaps comfy compared to SS
