thealphabeta Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 HELP!! I re-aligned my bezel last night and thought i was careful enough to make sure the glue didnt touch the glass, obviously not careful enough. It wasnt until i tried turning the bezel today when i realised it was stuck...superglued in fact. Any ideas as to how i can fix this problem. I cant imagine its a huge amount of glue, reckon i should hair dryer it or leaver the bezel up to try and free it??? Any help would be much appreciated - im shitting it!!!
KB Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Cyanacrylate (the main component in super glue) solvent I just hope that stuff doesn't melt anything
thealphabeta Posted March 29, 2006 Author Report Posted March 29, 2006 I just hope that stuff doesn't melt anything I was hoping that would do the trick....buggered I think i'll try prying first dont want molten seamaster, lol. Im praying this works, its BRAND NEW!
KB Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 I can only wish you luck my friend. You may also want to ask one of our watch modders directly. Ken
thealphabeta Posted March 29, 2006 Author Report Posted March 29, 2006 That might be a good idea - you suggest Joe or The Zigmeister?
KB Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Well Joe's more of the modder so I would try him. Ken
jonthebhoy Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 There's a Q&A section in joe's sub-forum. That would be the place to post.......or I could move this thread over there for you............. at no charge! JTB
Watchwatcher Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 been there, done that. pry the bezel off, when you do that you'll see where the excess glue is causing a problem--probably right between the insert and crystal. if you get the slightest amount in there it will jam the bezel (as your is). after doing a number of inserts and having to be extremely careful with the superglue, i switched to using clear 5 minute epoxy-- it is better option for several reasons. next time you glue the bezel, just remember that after it is in place, wait a minute or two and then carefully turn the bezel to avoid any sticky spots from hardening. again, take my advice, use the 5 minute epoxy, you'll get better results.
thealphabeta Posted March 29, 2006 Author Report Posted March 29, 2006 Thanks a lot watchmaker - glad im not the only one.... Im going to try and pry it off now...oooh errr
thealphabeta Posted March 29, 2006 Author Report Posted March 29, 2006 YES - its fine!! Popped the bezel off and could see the little culprit, cleaned her off and its back to the old bezel merry go round, hurrah! Cheers All Dave A happy ending to a tragic numpty misshap
RWG Technical Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Got your PM, but hit delete instead of reply...so here's my reply...glad it worked out for you... RG
r11co Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Super glue is far too runny for this sort of project. Either use the gel applied with a pin or fast setting epoxy.
thealphabeta Posted March 30, 2006 Author Report Posted March 30, 2006 Yeh i wish i'd known this before, however it should have been common sense really, all ok now though
stac Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Glad it worked out I had the same thing happen...twice!
jsph Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 > You'll be fine. Imagine it this way: if you WANTED it to be permanently glued, would it stay there like that? the most profound thing i've heard all week... glad it all worked out.
