My Plan for a 16613 build

Hello everyone -

I'm new to the board, but have done a fair amount of research as a lurker, until now. As many of you know, the tt submariner with blue face - 16613 has very few quality replicas in the market. I do want to attempt to have a good replica put together though. My plan is as follows:

TC v6

tc 16613 bezel insert, dial an hands

aftermarket bracelet from tnsdiamonds

gen crown and tube

gen clasp

aftermarket 18k bezel

i plan to send a tc v6 off to be modded with the tc bezel insert, dial and hands

i plan to replace the bracelet with a aftermarket real 18k/ss bracelet, replace the clasp with a genuine clasp, and replace the bezel woth an aftermatket real 18k bezel. i plan to replace the crown with a genuine crown also.

i will pay someone in the community to do the mods.

budget is $2700

assuming all goes well i think i will end up with a very good looking device for less than $2700.

What do you think of my plan? any pitfalls?

Well, you've got a plan and what would appear to be a fairly liberal budget.

Have you purchased anything yet? A breakdown of where you're spending the money would be helpful.

As for pitfalls, you won't know what those will be til you find them!

Datewheel overlay- you'll need one of those in the champagne color (gold).

Are you using the TC 2824-2 for a movement?

Misikped  has built the 16613- might check out his work.

Ruprekt over at RWI also has done this watch with success- might check him out.

texrob has a post on the TT 16613 over there also- check it out.

Good luck!

Nice first post.  You have clearly been doing some research.  Good plan on your project.  The bracelet is the hardest part.  I just sold an old rep real gold tt bracelet to another member who has used that model before and knows how to change the last link out to give it proper stampings.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

You did your homework nice first post. I've done a number of similar builds so here is some advice. unless you already have the tc v6 just order the case and case back. If you are looking at the wso 18k bezel find a tc or wm9 retainer the wso is not great. If you are using a 2824h4 movement you will want a BK DWO and the tc movements are great don't get me wrong but if you are going to drop that amount of cash on a build I would use a serviced swiss movement. I would suggest a Gen insert not the tc the gen insert is a must for a build like this. Your bracelet will be a bit more difficult as it should be an sel bracelet the 93153 style bracelet can be modded if you can source sel's it is also important that whoever mods the bracelet can shape the sel's properly to fit the case (this is very important I have seen plenty of $2000+ frankens that just flat look rep because the sel's don't follow the lugs properly). Gen clasp will be difficult to source if you want the proper stamping for a 16613 if the stamping is not important to you I would suggest just using a tc clasp gen's aren't much better.

Mymanmatt built one for me a year or two back. I would suggest that you budget for a gen dial as well, the gen just can't be duplicated. Mine has gen dial ,crystal, insert, crown /tube aftermarket 18k bezel. Gold wrapped bracelet with plated gold end link sides. Gen spec case made it a pretty straightforward build. ETA 2824 w champagne DW overlay.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. The movement that I planned for was the eta2824. I will take other members' advice about the genuine dial and will look out for one. My budget breakdown looked like this

Bracelet - $ 900 from tnsdiamonds

http://www.tnsdiamonds.com/rolexBrac1.htm(see $900 bracelet)

TC V6 - $575

Genuine crown - $300 (ebay)

Bezel $350 (ebay)

Tc dial, insert and markers - $110 (this will be roughly 450 if I use the genuine dial)

Mod fee - $250 (thoughts??)

Total range = $2485 to $2825 depending on whether I use the genuine dial and insert. I will probably just use the tc clasp from the v6...

With that being said - this was based on my initial plan. You all have given me food for thought so I may need to rethink some of this. What's most important to me is that the gold be real 18k gold, then next important is that the details be as close to genuine as possible within the constraints of my budget. I'm interested to see if anyone has an equal or lessor budget that can get me where I need to be.

Hi Builder, Thanks for sharing your plan in the forum.

I have been planning for this for quite some time n your list has made my work easier. :)

In my opinion, the bracelet is the most difficult part to source. Any reference as to how good is the Tnsdiamonds bracelet?

Is there any alternative?
