automatico
It's junk like this that makes Phong prices seem reasonable.
Beachcomber
I wouldn't go so far as to say it's junk, but then again you'd have to source a caseback or get threat one laser welded. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
nick1972
Guys, that's my listing on the VRF caseback is repairable according to watchworks uk. A few weeks ago a 5508 midcase in bad condition was sold on the bay for 2200€ 2500€ is the price I ask, not the price I will get!
dbane883
Other than the case back, the mid case is reasonable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Beachcomber
Honestly Nick, it's a very fair price and yes that caseback is repairable. Also, plexi, retaining ring and gen bars are not cheap either. The Euro is very low at the moment, this is pretty close to $2500, a good deal if you ask me. I paid close to 2k for my 5513 case.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nanuq
I'd grab it and get the damage laser welded, then reshape and have a hydro knife cut new knurls in the welding.

automatico
My apology. I'll admit the word 'junk' was a bit harsh.
panerai153
Pretty nice story. Lots of dial information that is probably not known. Some really beautiful dials. What this reinforces to me is that the vast majority of Rolex "experts" who think that they are in the know, really don't know! Rolex knows, but Rolex never tells, so the "experts" speculate and after a while their speculation becomes fact, at least to the don't knows. Great example of this is the comment made on the VRF to the effect that the Cosmograph was a beautiful watch, but that's and aftermarket dial? If it weren't for those Singer catalogs and concrete evidence that all those proto dials exist, the "don't know" but think they know crowd would convince everyone that this was indeed some aftermarket dial.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
