Modded Cartel 5513 v.2

I think a Cartel-based 1680 will be coming up...

Maybe a CWP T-39, a vietnam tropic dial, add a MBW Triplock-crown

Sorry no idea. Looks like it has the correct hollow midlinks which is a plus. The 580 endlinks are wrong though, they shouldn't be open to access the springbars. The springbars you have aren't gen spec either.

Here's the WSO 580 endlink

Considering I'm going to be unortodox, I thought that I'd add WSO 580-endlinks and a modern Glidelock-clasp instead of the 93150-clasp, considering the solid midlinks on the Cartel-bracelet, would this work? Any ideas?

(I like solid midlinks and the flexibility that the Glidelock adds...)

Just had to show these off again the first one i will start with is the 5513 007 build with yuki white feet first dial, yuki hands, wso end links, riveted bracelet, yuki insert, WSO pearl, I have just about every t19 and t39 made Swiss, german, wso, O frei. and a athaya 702 crown crown and a 2846, I have all the parts just gotta box em up and send them off, I still have not decided what I want to do with the 6538 other than change the crystal and crown, its really difficult!

It really came out great. I think at this point the only benefits the MBW case has to the new cartel is slimmer lugs and caseback but these updated cases are really great for a nice build at a great price.

The dial looks fantastic btw, great find. Also, I am now sold on the Yuki pearl too. Looks very much like the original pearls where the Ofrei looks like the service pearl. The Ofrei is about $15 less though. $40 is a bit much for a tiny plastic pearl but I guess it's better then a gen pearl for $75+

Case shaping completed with diamond files and varying grades of wet&dry abrasive paper. Reduced the height of the lugs slightly from the top and refinished with an abrasive pad. Brushed out the spelling mistakes between the lugs too, leaving a hint of the engraving behind. Drilled and countersunk the case to accept an Athaya 702 crown and tube. I used a combination on 1.3 mm drill bit and a 6.3 mm M3-90 degree countersinking bore for this. Finished off by giving the shiny bits of the case a polish. On to the shots :)

Could you please elaborate on how you countersunk the crown hole?  You say a 1.3mm drill and a 5.3mm counterbore.   But what exactly is the little 1.3mm bit doing for the countersinking?

Great build by the way!

Could you please elaborate on how you countersunk the crown opening?   I don't understand how you used a small 1.3 drill bit and a 6.3mm bore.  Are they used at the same time or separately?

Great job by the way!

My mistake, typing error. Apologies for the confusion. To seat the Athaya tube snugly, I used a 6.3 mm x M3-90 degree countersinker first to create the sloping 45 degree angle. Then a ca.3.2 mm drill bit to widen the hole ever so slightly to a depth of ca.0.3 mm. This creates a small step and angled sides for the tube to sit in. I then cleaned, and extended, the remaining case thread carefully using a M3 x 0.35 tap.

First, my apology for the repeating of my question.   There was a glitch today where I kept trying to post one reply and it never went through.  I see now that it did and they all merged?       Sorry about that.   Secondly, thank you so much for explaining the tools you used.    This makes sense now.    Very helpful to know what you used, especially since here in the States it's not always easy to find metric items so I just needed to make sure I had exact terminology.

Cheers.

If you are ever stuck for something you can source in Europe, I would happily at as forwarding agent for you.

What a fantastic looking build, many congrats!

I have a 5513 incoming from Josh and I'd love to fit a 702 crown as I hate the one with it!

Where can I source a 702 crown and do I need a tube?

Is this an easy process? I have never fitted a new crown/tube before.

You can pick up rep 702 crown and tube from Athaya, a member here and also other forums. This can installed by countersinking and re-taping the case as described previously. Good luck with your build.

Thanks, at least your build is certainly something to aim for!

You'll find it here (Ofrei crystal PA 462-66):

No problems fitting this with the retainer? I t ried a crystal swap on my mines and the crystal cracked. Not sure if it was this same one or the 30.48mm. It was from Ofrei too. I gotta go back and pick up another like yours if it fits with no problem

No problems fitting. A nice snug fit. Generally, if you do encounter problems fitting the retaining ring it's no biggie to sand down the outer diameter of the crystal slightly.

Very nice! What are the overall specs?

Another example of what can be done with the new cartel 5513.

WSO 580's, WSO gen spec spring bars, MBK bracelet, WSO bezel assembly, gen service insert, clarks crystal, athaya crown/tube, yuki dial/hands. reshaped case, aged dial, drilled lugs and voila!

Thanks! I'm planning something similar on my build with a gen 80s dial. Just need to find a gen service insert and maybe a gen crystal as well.

Continuing to tweak this build, I decided to send the midcase to Zocker next door for some lug work. (The standard Cartel lugs are a little plump for my taste). 3 months later the midcase came back with nicely chamfered and brushed lugs.

Nice! He did a great job with it. Do you feel like he did case work to bring it into more gen proportions, besides the brushing and polishing, and adding new bevels? That's one thing I have been wondering about - does or can his process take the place of having to grind and shave case dimensions ourselves?
