ubiquitous Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 My wife made an observation the other day- That observation being that I spend more time looking at people's wrists than anything else just to see what watches people are wearing. Now... This is, in my opinion, quite harmless and better than getting busted for checking out some other girl's 'assets' per se, but I realized that my wrist staring must be pretty apparent if she's mentioning it. What I'm wondering is... Is this common amongst all of us watch nerds?

Devedander Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Yup I do it too... but I check out the "assets" first... priorities my friend My GF knows there is no getting away from eithe of these and occasionally I get the friendly "Bling at 2 oclock, ass at 10"
Everythingape Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Yup.. I caught myself inclining my head during our King's new years address.. ..to see what he was wearing.. It looked like an Orange PO btw!
swdivad Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 That's funny My wife points out the 'assets', but I end up looking at the watches, assets have taken second priorty now as I can't do anything with them anyway LOL
coolfire Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Hehehe... Looks like I'm ain't alone... :Jumpy:
dcrooz Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Gees, I'm constantly checking out people's wrists. I've been caught out a few times but usually people are oblivious to it. On a similar note, once you've spotted a nice watch, how many of you subtlelypull up the cuffs on your shirt/jacket/coat/jumper to see if anyone notices what you're wearing?!!
hambone Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Watch watching is a tried and true instant estimation of a person. Although it is not really fair or sometimes accurate, it is a common practice among not only watch afficienados, but salesman, and other professionals who want to 'size up' their prospect. Watch collectors are by far the biggest wrist watchers and of this I plead guilty as charged.
Jason Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Guilty here as well. I wonder if people notice and wonder what I am staring at.
jfischman Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 All of us whose wives and GF's can appreciate eye candy are lucky...my wife: "Babe, what kind of watch is he wearing?" and "wow, she's hot". JF

ryyannon Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Guilty here as well. I wonder if people notice and wonder what I am staring at. 'All the time' now... Was called out rather testily by a woman in a café in a memorable confrontation during one of the last Paris GTGs - the poor dear thought I was staring at HER! On several occasions, I've even queried total strangers on the marque or model of the watch they were wearing.... Since I learned about brands like Church, Weston and John Lobb years back, I've also become aware of high-end and custom-made shoes, which are as much as a statement as the often more discreet watches....
jdavis Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 A common affliction it is indeed! I find myself doing this even while watching TV or a movie. My wife should read this thread because she thinks I am the only person on earth who does this.
Finepics Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Constantly - I work in a part of London where high end watches are an everyday sight! My neck has a permanent crick in it because of this.
russ Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Not only am I guilty as charged, but when watching movies or the TV, Im always trying to check out the watch.
baltic Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Not only am I guilty as charged, but when watching movies or the TV, Im always trying to check out the watch. Guily on both counts too M'lud
davethecat Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 where's the sign up sheet for the support group. I'll bring the cookies. I have a pretty big staff, with occasional attrition. I have never made a hiring decision based on a watch..... but I notice. It helps me determine how "believable" some candidates are. Petty? So go ahead & hate me.....
Pugwash Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 I have never made a hiring decision based on a watch..... but I notice. It helps me determine how "believable" some candidates are. Petty? So go ahead & hate me..... We all do it.
relaxman Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Guilty as charged however the small city I live in the spotting of nice watches is few and far between but I keep on looking.
