ceejay
Any opinions on this? I get the feeling the dial is wrong rather than just an issue with the hands. Movement is gen and I think the case is too. I just don't know?
alligoat
The dial doesn't bother me. The corrosion between the rehaut and the crystal concerns me more. I'd replace the hands- I just can't go with trashed out hands myself.

I belive i read a thread on TRF regarding just that but in that thread it was a 1665 that got the very same rust under the plexi where the plexi meets the case. gmg_3
What is the price? thoughts.. the corrosion is between the crystal and the bezel. Hands can be swapped fairly easily. That insert is worth 1200-1600 alone.
ceejay
Cheers gents, The watch belongs to my friend. He contacted me for advice as he is considering getting the hands re-lumed and whoever he has contacted regarding that has recommended that he has the dial re-lumed at the same time. I just wasn't sure about the dial. The condition of the dial just doesn't seem in character with the rest of the watch? if you think the dials good then the sensible solution is indeed, replace the hands. cheers. ceejay
Anyone got a source for a replacement handset or where he should be looking/asking?
capre
Anyone got a source for a replacement handset or where he should be looking/asking?For original hands id guess VRM is the best shot. For service hands TRF and aftermarket hands id be looking at clarks, cousinsuk and such. The bay might be an option too.
freddy333
I am not the best with non-Rose dialed Tudors, so take my comments with a grain of salt. The dial does not look right to me. Perhaps, it is new or it has been relumed, but my gut says it is not a 30+ year old dial from Switzerland.

lumbee
The insert is replica, the dial may be also. If I were a betting man, I'd bet the whole watch is rep.

alligoat
Considering the corrosion, the dial could easily be a later service dial. Did you happen to look at the back of the dial when the movement was serviced?
ceejay
I didn't as I didn't take much interest in it at that time. When we resume our training (Horology) after the holiday, I will get some better pictures. I hope it is OK, he's a nice guy but a little naive
sgtguk
I'd certainly say the dial is later than the hands, I've got s Gen service dial in one of mine, pm me when you can and I'll forward some pics to compare if you like insert not so sure about though, defo needs some new hands though!
