So what is the most intelligent ever said..about human life and progress...in your opinion :)

I'll start with:

Never discourage anyone... who continually makes progress, no matter how slow.

Here are two of my favorites (after a few drinks I may get them wrong).

The first is from the american philosopher William James "There is no conclusion. What has concluded, that we might conclude in regard to it? There are no fortunes to be told, and there is no advice to be given"

Another less directly related one comes from the book "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance"

"we take a handful of sand from the endless landscape of awareness around us,,,,,and call this handful of sand the world"

I wish I could be more optimistic about the meaning of human progress. The more I investigate human history, the more I question if any progress has actually been made.

Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony!

Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, or on internet forums it is the rule.

I have only slightly modified this to fit thgis forum...inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche..and it is so true

A wise man once said "There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again. You've got to understand . . . ."

It is inexcusable for scientists to torture animals; let them make their experiments on journalists and politicians.

Henrik Ibsen (1828 - 1906)

More fitting for RWG would be something like

It is inexcusable for members to torture newbies; let them make their experiments on moderators and administrators.

Gunnar Gran (1963 - presumed still alive)

JTB

love this one too:

It is not necessary for the public to know whether I am joking or whether I am serious, just as it is not necessary for me to know it myself.

Salvador Dali (1904 - 1989)
