elprimerozen
I have a Gen and a Rep Gmt master 2....and its time to compare this 2 beautyfull watches side by side! This I dedicate to By-Tor as he is a grat fun of the Gmt! My gen comes back from 1992..as for the rep it has amod on it as you will see it has a gen bezel insert..and in few days it will have a gen crown,as it can fit the rep tube easy! Here are the photos: The gen is the one with the old style bracelet, the new is with the sell bracelet! Left gen! Here we can see the date magnification of the rep and next pic is the gen(Rep its the 27th of the month) The rehaut of the gen and then the rep: Here is the side view that all the people always ask for!!!For me they are both beautyfull! Look at the crown position!!! The rep gmt hand ..and then the gen: The hand stack of the 2836...and the gen correct hands position: Look where the gen has its crown!...and then the rep: The crystal rizes above the bezel a litle higher for the rep: The case back of these two beautyes!!! I think this special rep from Josh is one of the best GMT that are not above 200$!!!Look at these pics! Oooohand a "sexy" view! The lug holes need a lot of work for the rep to mats the gen! Some general views! The dials areperfect for the rep!!! Amd the restareeye candy for all of us!!!!! Thanks By Tor for inspiration...keep posting your pics And all these super people that are here everyday!! My regards and good health to all! @EPZ

vmena
Splendid and right on time...I can now compare the MBW I just got to the gen ;-) Do it stephane! I've just bought a MBW 1680 but I think that I will trade it for a good GMT... @elprimero: great review... just one point: is it correct for the GMT rep having holes in the lugs and carrying a SEL bracelet? I've just bought a MBW 1680 but I think that I will trade it for a good GMT... @elprimero: great review... just one point: is it correct for the GMT rep having holes in the lugs and carrying a SEL bracelet? Yes it can have the new style bracelet and lug holes....first it was the old bracelet/lugholes for gen Rolex..then they have put on the new style bracelet and the lug holes were stiil there for the gen...and after some time gen rolex stoped to have lug holes...so if somebody asks me that on the street i can say that its an early model near the year 2000. chrgod
Cool, thanks for the comparison! Actually, I prefer the slightly larger date magnification of the rep!

flyback
Very nice watch! congrats! I have question : (may be i'm wrong,) You can only find the correct gmt hand stack on a vintage gmt, not gmt2? -second hand, minute hand, hour hand and gmt hand on a vintage gmt (gen and rep). -second hand, minute hand, gmt hand and hour hand on a gen gmt, not on a rep gmt. Jetsons
Fantastic post and photos. elprimerozen! Perhaps the best side by side pictorial that I have seen. Thank you for taking the time (and I'm sure it took plenty) to post all this. Very helpful! You're right....some of the GMT reps are quite close. I have the MBW with the 2893-2 and it's a fantastic watch. Not totally accurate with regard to the dial and GMT hand but that will change when I finish collecting the parts. Cheers! brook0
WOW! That was quite a bit of work. Thank you for sharing. Maybe no need to spend $350 to $400 for a MBW? Get the Josh and add a few gens which you would do with the MBW anyway. This type of post is a great asset because it can save plenty of searching time. Got to get one. Jetsons
Be glad to. One thing the TW 2893-2 has is a correctly positioned crown on the case. The bottom is nearly flush with the top rising above the case. This was a very pleasant surprise when I received it & should make it easier to install the OEM crown/tube. Viennawatch
I admit its damn beautiful, but there definitely still is a lot of work to be done on the GMT, especially the dial and the crown!
dluddy
Great post. Has anyone drilled the lug holes on one of these yet? They seem to be real close to the edge like the old TW Best cases
kenofstephen
the "II and the "||" are quite obvious.
elprimerozen
the "II and the "||" are quite obvious. Retro" tries to replicate a rare dial version, which uses markings "GMT MASTER ||" instead of more common "GMT MASTER II" (see the gen reference picture below) Read read and read.....and then read!! And after this read By Tor's threads! And after all these...try to use the search machine!! And read also a gen Rolex site! Cheers!
