watcher71
Anyone complaining about gas prices that are higher than the prices in the US can only blame themselves and their govenrments for being taxed to hell...yeah, socialist societies are the way to go! And next time I want to hear a politcal opinion from someone like "slay", I will ask my 4 yearold son for his opinion.
slay
we need those taxes in order to pay for pensions and enviroment... at least WE dont mess up the whole enviroment and say "F*CK it, as long as gas' cheap, i dont f*ckin care if polar bears die and the ice melts because of global warming!!" but ever since katrina hit the US, ppl started to believe that global warming is their biggest threat... even before terrorism! so long One thing I got very peeved about at our old home, was the religious/political threads, and am avowed to not starting/getting involved in any! well, I think a lot of ppl have way different opinions when it comes to politics, and noone will step back from his opinion, unlike it is with watches, because when it comes to watches, movements etc. we have facts and when it comes to politics, its mostly personal evaluation... but regardsles, i'm always right Edited April 29, 2006 by slay
Thor
OK So it appears that in the US, it would be fair to say that an average price is around $3/gallon. How does this equate to our $5 + and some prices I see there from the UK and Europe, which are even higher? Surely the oil has to be shipped- so the freight content, would not vary much? One would expect there not to be too larger variance in processing costs ( I realise that the US is a much larger market- so the costs may be marginally lower), but that still doesn't explain these huge variances. The only other thought I have would be taxes- I know in Oz we pay a VERY large tax on fuel ( interestingly some states are lower than others) but the state tax is not big. Its our Federal government who take the lions share Does anyone know the % your govenment tack on for (whatever) tax? Offshore In germany the gas-price of ~1,40€ per litre compounds: fixed govermental dues in € per litre: oil-tax (Mineralölsteuer): 0,501 eco-tax (Ökosteuer): 0,154 oil-provisioning-tax (Erdölbevorratungsbeitrag): 0,0046 total: 0,6596 = ~ 0,66€ Additional to the amount of 0,66€ the german government charges an variable amount, depending on the gas-price, of 16% VAT (value-added-tax)... at an gas-price of 1,40€ per litre the VAT is ~ 0,2€ per litre... so the german state makes altogether 0,86€ per litre at an gas-price of 1,40€ that makes a total of 62% tax

Willith
US$1.08/Litre or US$4.08/US Gal At the rate our prices are rising we'll be there in less than a few weeks. The average price jumps 2¢ a day here. And the oil companies are taking record profits, but they claim they aren't gouging the price of gas. I believe them...... Thor
And the germans aren't the ones paying the most per litre in Europe... but we haven't reached the climax jet... the prizes will rise constantly... with the actual gas-demand we have ressources for the next 45 years... and if the chinese-people begin to change more and more from bicycles to cars the demand will rise enormous... Yeah, if you want to fund the retirement of others...have fun with it. And you really think your taxes are going towards curing that falacy known as big bad "global warming"...please. Wanna buy a bridge? but ever since katrina hit the US, ppl started to believe that global warming is their biggest threat... even before terrorism! again, HUH? Are you kidding me? you beleive this stuff or just type it? Yeah, anyway, really BIG hurricanes were kicking our ass 100 years ago. Golbal warming huh? Interesting. Anyhoo, if ya goota gripe with this mysterious, elusive warming of the globe, then take it up with the third world nations and all the crap they are putting into the air... But then again, I guess it is easier (and FUNNER) to say it is the big bad US of A that is "warming" our little globe. Okay then...I am off to protect myself from "global warming" because "global warming" apparently opened up another extrmeist terrorist camp where all of the "global warmers" are learning how to blow people up and make the rest of the world bow before the peaceful prophet mohamed. Yeah... nice try slay so long
