By-Tor
Brilliant! You have a lot of guts to do these things yourself. Keep practising, and we soon have a EU-based watch repairman in the community.
sam_tgg
Thanks Pugwash! I am an avid watcher of pictorials, from The Zigmeister, By-Tor, etc. the one
Pugwash
I have a question: you remove the steam: could you clarify why? Do you have a better picture of what do you remove? You remove the stem to take the movement out. I don't have a picture of that exact stem, assuming that anyone even considering this would know how to remove and replace the stem. However, this is what a stem from a 2836 looks like:
NRG
Nice one Pugwash, one other suggestion (just a thought) would be to get some finger cots and some watch paper from cousinsuk. The cots have saved me many a time from putting finger smudges on the dial...and the paper is always useful

The cots have saved me many a time from putting finger smudges on the dial...and the paper is always useful I use greaseproof paper. It's good enough for my use. Also, I have some jeweller's gloves for when I'm doing a lot of poking with fingers, but it seemed like overkill here. However, I'm nowhere near good enough to know everything, so I may try these items later.

Moppel
Hi, I am currently trying to install a new datewheel as well. I am doing this work on my computer desk with this tutorial displayed on the computer screen. Well, maybe I should have printed it out because I have managed to loose 2 of the case clamps which hold the movement to the case with screws. They just flew away from the tweezers and haven't been found yet. Does anybody know where to get a few of those clamps besides from Cousins? They only sell those in a 144 pieces quantity. ( please no jokes like "you will probably need the others, too ) Also, I haven't been able to find out how to remove the spacer ring from the movement. BTW: it is a TAG Carerra. Any help is much appreciated. Moppel

Seeing as a TAG Carrera is on my wants list, I hope the ring is just a little tight as opposed to glued on. I've come across watches with only one clamp, for what it's worth. As long as the clamp is on the other side to the crown, it should hold. If you feel you need two, open a watch with three and cannibalise one. D How much is a bag of 144? I'd be more concerned about losing the screws, myself.

Hi Pugwash, so the ring can just be taken off without removing srews or something else? I've tried to get it off with a little force, but without any luck. Well, I guess I will try again. The bag of clamps is around 7 GBP. But the postage to Germany always hurts. Cheers Moppel

Hi, good news: the ring is not glued. I was able to manage to get the ring off. I also installed the new datewheel. But as I wanted to put back the chrono hand at six o'clock I realised that I had broken the pin. I guess I am done with going deeper into modifying watches.
