boncovi Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 (edited) I have a Chinese movement Sub LV which was getting dusty in my drawer. Today, I decided to make it a "project" watch.. Disassembled everything, disassembled the dial (including every hour markers) broke the corners some of the bar hand markers , sanded the others from different angles (fine nail file) sanded the face of the hands (3 of them) sanded the dial, created some scratches with screwdriver. created scratches with a fine pin for every second marker (white lines) scratched around the date window on dial brushed every part of the case with sand paper bleached the green insert (now lighter than pistachio green) Now I'm spraying salted water every hour on the hands, hour markers. hoping to get them grow rust (as I brushed before, I think they will) It's completely tortured, destroyed, hard to recognize, I will put it together in 2 days and update the post with pictures Edited May 4, 2008 by boncovi
phaedo Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Although this sounds like an interesting project, aren't the LV subs a reasonably new line, and thus not something that should looked aged?
boncovi Posted April 30, 2008 Author Report Posted April 30, 2008 well, i actually would sell this, posted pics here asking the estimate, when I found out it's $78 shipped brand new, I wanted to enjoy it
jmt Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 It's REALLY, REALLY wierd, Boncovi. But, for some (probably scotch induced) reason I like it a lot.
Guest carlsbadrolex Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 I cant say that I dont like it... If it were a replica of a 50 year old vintage watch, I would probably really like it. The way that you scratched each minute marker to different lengths is pretty impressive. The hands look great for a vintage watch. All in all, if YOU like it GREAT! I commend your efforts! My one suggestion would be to beat the hell out of the case a little more. Sanding it in a straight line just doesnt do the dial any justice! CBR
steen Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 That's a funny project. I follow you all the way. Come on boy, beat the [censored] out of that fu
Pugwash Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 I presume the inspiration is the DNA in your avatar. I like the care you're taking in adding Wabi-Sabi to your watch.
cornerstone Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Ach, until you've hit it with the Bunsen burner and driven the Land Rover over it, this is just like tickling it....
JoJo35 Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Can I make a constructive (lol or better yet, destructive!) suggestion? Perhaps taking it apart again and giving the dial an acid bath would age it further, and take away some of that "fresh cut" look

I knew there was something bugging me (even though I like it)... and its that "fresh-cut" thing...
Stephane Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Amazing yet very interresting aging procedure. I am planning such a project too...great fun.
Sturb Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Just found this very ugly Sub that I bought years ago in Ibiza for about
