upgraded my membership to supporter.

Wanted to do this earlier coz I much rather have an annual one time fee instead of the 5 bucks a month thingy. The missus does go thru my bills sometimes... I don't like to do the "what is this USD 5 for" explaining bit.

Keep the forum going....

Can I just make the point (as our Admin has already done) that limiting our forum to paying members would be the death knell for RWG, traffic is the life blood of a forum so whereas it is unfortunate that more don't see fit to support us we still need all the members we can get to stay viable.

Agree ,

.... just restrict accesibility to the Sales Forum to Supporters only.

Surely we need traffic to stay viable, but the bills need to be paid too.

By making some quality information like the knowledge base/wiki section/photography section and the sales & Iwanttobuy forum restricted to Supporters-only there is a real motivation to upgrade.

Isn`t there a bit of irony here,........if traffic is the life blood of a forum,

what good is traffic if it isn`t helping to keep RWG viable ?

RWG just becomes another internet site for one and all,............ at our expense.

Money has to be generated on a regular, ongoing basis to keep any forum viable.

Indeed there's a certain irony in it: we need traffic to stay viable, but due to the increased traffic the bills can't be paid.....

What we do need is increasing traffic that pays the bills.

Some good suggestions here. I can see the irony in that this forum needs traffic to stay alive but increased traffic means increased bills.

Additionally, its not fair as others have pointed out, for a handful of members here making donations to keep the forum alive while others get a 'free ride'.

Of deeper concern is the "infiltration" and "attack" that has lead to this issue in the first place. Tackling that is never going to be easy.

Actually tackling this is impossible, we can all take guesses but even if we are right we will never know.

As to your other concern, yes the idea of this thread is to harvest thoughts on how we can change the system to try and avoid this happening on a regular basis.

Been here a long time and have tried to be a supporter.

But how do I get past the Argle-Bargle of the last six or so pages and make a further contribution?

Carl

look at admins initial thread and click on link, good luck

The subject has been discussed extensively already so I will be brief.

The administration asked for help. I was not yet ready to upgrade my membership but I have now done so because I want the forum to continue to exist and I don't want the administration to be unduly burdened.

I have helped out and will continue to help out as long as the forum does not become exclusively for those who have paid memberships. Other people have their opinions, I have mine. I do not view non-paying members as leeches as many here seem to but rather as vital and necessary contributors to a thriving community. I make my own decisions about donating, upgrading, etc. What other members do is none of my business.

Obviously it is up to the administration to do as it sees fit. I see no problem with reminding the membership that financial support is needed to keep the forum running. I also have no objection to the current split membership benefit scheme. But if this forum were to ever exclude non-paying members I will cancel my membership and leave.

I am not trying to be confrontational or stir the pot. I am merely expressing a deeply held sentiment - I will only support the forum as long as it remains open to EVERYONE.

I am 1 of the 300. Is there a way to see a list of my brothers?

I love this place. It keeps me from looking at porn all the time. :)

I think there are many good ideas out there as to changes to this forum, but I think one of the best one is to make the sales forum available to members only. The same 10 or so people snatch up all the good bargains in like 5 minutes anyway so whats the difference. :)

The problem I see with that is that it harms the seller - he will have a better chance of selling his watch if it is open to all. Right now there is an incentive for anyone who buys AND sells to join the forum so as to have a very nice venue where they can sell and trade the watches they are tired of. But by keeping it open to all buyers those contributors who are selling have a very wide audience for their sales threads.

I understand what you are saying JohnG, but most sellers prefer to sell to supporting members as is. Now I understand if the seller sits on his watch for any length of time that would change in a heart beat. I just think there should be some reward of sorts for helping support the forum. The non paying members could read the member trade reviews and see what they are missing out on. Personally I don't sell much of anything anyway, so maybe I should not have an opinion on that, but I feel it would be enticing to upgrade if it opened another door especially to pieces with mods done to them.

I can'T ThinK of many people bitter or twisted enough to want to get the forum closed down by restricting it's cashflow. Whoever it is, obviously has quite the chip on their shoulder.

I don't know if this has been suggested before. We can make a small donation out of each watch sold by member (personal donation, any amount). That's I think a small gesture that will count towards the greater good.
