Pugwash Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 There are two possible answers. 1. The rope is tied to the back of the horse 2. The rope isn´t tied to the other end at all... There is a third answer, and a much more likely one. The horse is tied to the saloon, and the hay is 1m away from the tying post thingy. The furthest the horse can get is 6m away in one direction or 4m in another. This is a silly question, as you have to look at the possible answers and try to work out which 'clever' answer they're looking for.
Pugwash Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 Who is Brian, and haven't we teased him enough?
cornerstone Posted July 30, 2006 Author Report Posted July 30, 2006 Pete decided to get into the used boat sales business. After buying two boats, he realised he'd spent all his money and had no cash flow. Pete opted for a couple of quick sales. By the end of the day he had sold both boats for $6000 each. On one boat he realized a profit of 20% and on the other boat he lost 20%. Did Pete make money, lose money or break even?

Did Pete make money, lose money or break even? This depends on how you count it. Let's assume stuff again. 6000/1.2 = 5000 purchase price 6000/.8 = 7500 purchase price. He started with $12500 and through poor planning and mismanagement lost $500 in a day. Plus overheads, Pete should get out of the used boat business.

Did Pete make money, lose money or break even? First boat was bought for 5.000 and the second for 7.500. So he sold each for 6.000 and lost a total of 500. Pug was faster again... That´s the problem for slow typing not english native speakers...

cornerstone Posted July 30, 2006 Author Report Posted July 30, 2006 Yes you are both right, and Pugwash got there first! WINNER! While I'm looking for some new questions, this one is still unsolved.... John dropped in to visit his friend Frank, and found him snoozing on the couch. There was fresh blood on the ceiling above his head, but nowhere else in the room. John anxiously woke him to check his condition only to find that everything was fine. How could Frank's blood be on the ceiling but nowhere else?

How could Frank's blood be on the ceiling but nowhere else? I give up. Something like Frank is a budgie, the couch is actually a sponge and the blood is really blancmange, but through stupidly worded language, we can almost make out that it's only one specific situation you need to be really clever to work out.

And made with paper - possibly even coloured in. Too bad it's only a quartz. And the girl is a honey. Okay, a new question: What is the next letter in the following sequence? M A M J J A S O
