jeff g Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Today I was walking into a local Pub, and walking out at the same time, was a young guy, maybe 23 or 24 yrs old. Being the WIS that I am, I noticed that the guy was wearing the same watch as I. A PP Aquanaut with the rubber bracelet. Without a doubt it was the rep 5167. No don't get me wrong, its all good to see someone else wearing such a nice watch, but remember I am old, I can actually get away with wearing a gen Aquanaut, but this young man did not pull it off. I had to laugh...not at him, but at myself for being such a watch obsessive goon. Here is a shot of the watch in question.
FxrAndy Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Never judge a book by its cover geff, i oftern look like i could not afford lunch!
DemonSlayer Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Thats what people probably think of me when I wear my Nautilus (those that can recognise it )
dluddy Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Really...How old were the founders of Yahoo, Google & YouTube when they became millionaires Early 20's
monkeypie Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Yeah I'd hate to rain on your parade too op, but the other posters are right. The other day I saw a young 20 something in t-shirt, shorts and sneakers sporting an Audemars Piguet Shaq O'Neil. I see plenty of young folks with their gen-Daytonas like it was the greatest thing ever.
Corgi Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 The date wheels are always trouble on the sport PP reps.
If you see Kay Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 (edited) yah, my in-laws have his/her daydates (40K for the gents version) and they look like ordinary folk. Do ordinary things. People who don't flaunt their wealth are the real wealthy ones (no , not the money wealth) Edited May 21, 2009 by If you see Kay
jdkno Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Yeah can't judge a book by its cover. I was at the AD last week and a kid maybe 20 at the most was picking up a white gold Daytona with the black and red face after they had done some work to it. He was wearing cargo shorts, a t shirt, and a pair of Crocs.
If you see Kay Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 maybe he was a drug dealer I pegged one guy in front of me in the cashier as one, based on the typical stereotypes of what one looks like around here. (Not going to get into that..) I even predicted the type and colour of his car he would drive to my wife in private. Sure enough I was bang on.
Maxim Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Damn, that's a nice watch. I never really liked Patek's until this one!
mastergod Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Never judge a book by its cover geff, i oftern look like i could not afford lunch! :-D :-D :-D The are lots of gens, particularly Rollies, Omegas and Breits out there on people who can
spooky driver Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Never judge a book by its cover geff, i oftern look like i could not afford lunch! often i could not afford lunch.....because i buy too many watches
alinghi Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 often i could not afford lunch.....because i buy too many watches rofl :-) same here ;-)
emuozz Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Thats what people probably think of me when I wear my Nautilus (those that can recognise it ) Same here. But I don't think any one has ever recognized my nautilus
fakemaster Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 The guy was walking by. So the determination it was a rep was just a wild guess.
OneMan24 Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 My buddy owns numerous gen Pateks and a Carrera GT and you'd think he was a bank teller.
KB Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 People often think I look like I have money.........they're wrong too. Ken
totalwise Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 The rep scene is pretty crazy, you can build yourself a lamborgnini with a kit costing less than $40,000US Search for Replica Lamborghini on youtube for more
trailboss Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 I wouldn't call that a rep. poor imitation more like it. My sisters father in law has just finished a rep Lambo, space frame, gen engine and running gear. THAT'S a rep! Mind you, he's also hung a pair of whopping great Garrett turbos off the engine Retired F1 engineers get bored quickly. Col.
cc Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 I'm house poor living off instant noodles, boxed potatoes, and tap water but I have a great selection of watches!! All kidding aside, I've seen some pretty impressive stuff on younger kids here in Socal. They like to bling.....
