  1. I mostly see vintage Rolex on NATO straps with the casual business uniform of sport coat, pocket square, chinos, double monks. Check out Styleforum. I'm sure the vibe is one of adding a dash of industrial chic to a carefully constructed outfit. Agree with Freddy about modern Rolex and the Asian market. 20% of total sales are in HK. Particularly gold.
  2. A colleague of mine who was in a similar situation to yourself and his son was 14 at the time. He decided to spend some of his last days writing a short journal, with a few paragraphs devoted to each year of his own life after the age of 14. That way as his son matures, and has his own family, he stay connected with his dad. Really lovely. Just something I wanted to share... All the best to your son and family.
  3. The only time a had a watch serviced by an AD (Cartier) they didn't seal the back properly and moisture got in. So now it's independent watchmakers all the way... I like to chat with the actual guy who does the work.
  4. Eric, I request that you steal Sean's Mecha prototype and send it to me! Much bigger than my latest Datejust acquisition, but I'm sure you could make me a custom short strap. Here's the DJ with your strap, which has just arrived. Nice.
  5. Thanks guys... Another angle.
  6. This kicked off when I snapped up a gen case and bezel on Ebay for $150. This made up for a long period of regretting not getting one of those Roling cases years ago! I then sourced a bunch of other bits without realising Matt was also a source. - Gen case, back, bezel, dial, tube, crown, date wheel with open font - TC Super 2824–2 - Clarks hands - Raffles Time movement holder #2 - Donerix strap - Aftermarket Rolex 16mm buckle (from another watch, so can't remember who from) Two slight set backs... the TC movement arrived at Matt's without the higher H4 pinion and Matt had to cope. Also the gen crown had a thread problem, so Matt swapped it with his supplier for a better one for not much money. Good guy. I ummmed and ahhhed about the strap. Had it on a grey and blue nato for a few days but my wife thought that wasn't dressy enough. She normally just says, "Whatever", so it must have been pretty lacklustre. So I was looking for some of the texture of a jubilee, but not the bling, when I spotted this Donerix in his sale. It's as fat as a jubilee and hard to get on and off actually, as it's rather stiff through the buckle. I preferred to play it down a bit with the two-tone. Enjoy... Oh yeah, original crystal too... left a bit of patina.
  7. I also get my left cuff made 1cm looser than the right. There are plenty of online shirtmakers now and it costs me the same or less than buying in a department store, for a much better fit.
  8. I've started wearing pocket squares with sport coats, now that I no longer wear suits and ties to work .. I still like a pop of colour. As for fashion rules, 'never do this, never do that', I am old enough to know they are total b.s. Just wear what you like and you feel comfortable with in the company you keep.
  9. Bought a solid gold Cartier Pasha bezel for $1
  10. Oh dear... two minutes a year... When New Year's rolls around, you'll have to remember to celebrate at 11:58!
  11. There was an ebay seller a year or so ago selling gold bezels for $800... upgrade your SS etc.
  12. Nice... one of the favourites in my collection!
  13. Nice one... my wife pulled almost the same stunt with a GMT2 a couple of years ago. She intercepted it at the post office. I was really sweating on that watch, and had no idea!
  14. Lovely... I might do that to mine one day, with one of Tourb's fancy movements! Nice idea with the hands.
