  1. It pleases me greatly that we have a global brotherhood that transcends countries, religion, politics, economic circumstances and race. Especially when it is based on nothing more than a fascination with an obsolete piece of technology yet often sees deep and lasting friendships grow.

  3. Here also is an example of Natas bringing a watch "back to life." His work is amazing. A gentleman and expert in his field. I can't recommend him highly enough. And it's worth sending to him even though he's far from me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. 44.2mm (it's a rep DJ case, not a rep DD case). The original rep 118238 DD case is no longer usable- it was damaged by the USPS service and part of the gold plating was worn off due to rough handling. It might be possible to take all of the gold plating off and use it as a SS DD case, but i don't know if a gen dial would fit.

  6. On the rep DJ case, lug to lug is 44.2mm On the gen case it's 43.27mm. I never had a DJ oyster bracelet in gold except the one that's on my DJ- it's from Riyi002 which means it's unmarked I was going to try to get one for my rep DD, but riyi002 doesn't currently show them on his ebay page.

  7. The lug size is 20mm and the rep Silix YM bracelet fits fine, but quality of the YM bracelet is ok, not great- I'm just glad it fits nicely. I just got lucky that the YM bracelet fits well. It has the YM clasp- the short flip lock type typical of the YMs and not correct for a 118208 DD, but those bracelets are hard to find

Great video about Super Titanium linked above and here is a little bit to read about it... http://partner.citizenwatch.eu/en-US/Content/SuperTitaniumTechnologie

  12. Every year at this time is Fur Rondy and the Iditarod sled dog race. Lots of neat things are written about it; google up Don Bowers Iditarod Trail Notes to get a taste of what it entails. Yesterday we watched the Iditarod finish and something really neat happened. Mitch Seavey came in first, the old timer setting all kinds of records in the process. After him was a serious race between his son Dallas Seavey and the competitor Nicolas Petit from Girdwood. They pulled out of Safety, heading for Nome 16 minutes apart. The cameras were watching all the way down Front Street in Nome, and they picked out a dog team coming up off the sea ice. We couldn't see who it was until they were 500 yards out, and we saw it was Dallas. Yahoo!! He came in 2nd place, behind his dad. Then right away came bib #24, Nicolas Petit. He had made up almost 13 minutes in the 22 mile race from Safety to Nome. What a run!! So he passed under the burled arch and accepted the crowd's cheers for 3rd place. What the cameras didn't catch though, is what mattered. He quietly handed something to Dallas ... his Vet Book. In the commotion, Dallas had dropped it on the snow in Safety as he pulled out, and Nicolas grabbed it for him. The rules require the Vet Book to be in the front of the sled at every checkpoint, and without it Dallas would have been forced to scratch. Or go back and get it. By quietly handing to book to Dallas, Nicolas gave up 2nd place in the greatest race on earth. That's sportsmanship.

  13. Great story 'Nook and funnily enough, I bet in a few years time I'll have forgotten the name of the guy who came second but I'll remember the name Nicholas Petit and that vet book.

  15. "And again, not really worth finding a WG crown." Agree. I had a nos 'two dot' WG 6mm crown and sold it a while back after not needing it for 20 years. The fellow who bought it told me good used examples were going for $100 to $150 at the time so imho a WG gold crown might be off limits because of the price of the crown compared to the price of the watch. If I remember correctly, the WG crown cost about $60 new while YG crowns were $35 at the time, they always cost more than YG and even more now. Something else...my WG crown was the older style with a gold cap crimped over a nickel silver body so the new 'monoblock' style with a solid gold body to match a newer model watch would probably be even more $$. I looked through all my 'take off' crowns and did not find one used WG crown in case I missed one. Matter of fact, I have never owned or worked on a WG rolex. Probably never will. Twenty five years ago when a used YG single QS Prez went for around $7k, a WG model would strain to bring $5k or $6k. Passed on a 'four digit' plat DD for $4k back then. Dumb. Times have changed...100% hindsight. Btw, I always thought a monoblock was an Amal carburetor. You can spot them because the crankcase (and the ground under it) is wet with gasoline. We called them 'monofloods'. If the cork gasket in the fuel cut-off valve on the tank leaked gas into the carbs (as usual), sometimes you had to remove the spark plugs, put the bike in gear, and push it backwards to blow the gasoline out of the cylinders before you cranked it because the needles and seats always leaked. If the bike had been parked a long time you had to remove the drain plug from the crankcase and drain the gas/oil out. They were dry sump so a half pint of Castrol would fill it back up (owned a couple Norton Atlas and a Tri-hump or two).

  24. Hi guys just been nudged by@Wobby82 to come over more often [emoji6]. That last one was pretty popular, still get a lot of questions about it! I do try to evolve constantly and improve my work, and I also get pushed by people who commission builds from me to try new things. Currently working with airbrush a lot and finding it very enriching. Verzonden vanaf mijn iPhone met Tapatalk Pro
