  1. Regarding the matte dial, there is a certain amount of confusion on the gen boards about it. This could be a c**k up by a RSC but I doubt it, here's a link, http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tre...79614&rid=0 http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tre...ev=&reveal= It makes sense that the previous model had been updated to glossy dials so it should be natural for the newer model to sport them as well. Geneva has confirmed there are matte dials out there but I wonder if this was due to the replacements made because of the early paint/laquer problems...who knows for sure? I don't think Rolex themselves do now...
  2. If it's stopping at the same time ie. 30 mins past the hour all the time it's reasonable to assume the hands are fouling each other. It's an easy fix but involves removing the movement from the watch. Hope this helps...
  3. Good choice, I was luckily in the same boat recently and was split as whether to go for a new or vintage (when exactly are they considered vintage anyway?) I eventually decided on a 168000 transitional, original dial, hands, bracelet and insert. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm currently enjoying mine... Here's some pics, not as well taken as yours though...
  4. The SFSO will be fine for swimming if you ensure the caseback gasket and crown are greased properly. I wouldn't swim in my BCE but I have showered with it, again after I've lubed the gaskets/crown/pushers and made sure everything is screwed down tight. Regarding the BCE, the model you need to get is the A7750 powered V2/V3 version with the larger font/updated datewheel. With the SFSO you have two choices, the A21j version, is cheaper but comes in two guises, you must ask for one with AR or the more expensive ETA powered version which comes with it as standard. Just read the reviews on each watch on the forums and you'll get all the info you need to make an informed purchase...
  5. @ Mod's, feel free to move this if it's not on the correct part of the forum. Well as some of you may know, due to a tax refund I was in the position to have some spare cash and decided to get a gen watch, as with the current market the way it is, there are some great deals to be had. Which one to buy? When given the choice you just don't know how hard it is to deliberate. I finally decided to go for a Sub as it was my first rep and I
  6. The older model TT's are just a Golf with different bodywork. Go for a Golf R32 if you can...
  7. Neil Pert and Cozey Powell, best drummers ever IMO...
  8. It put's me in mind of a Broad Arrow split seconds if that's any help...
  9. No, that's the slate dial with black sub-dials Dave. Mine was a graphite with Automatic in red. See Hongkytonkman's image of his Graphite V2, looks as if it's the same as my V2, no concentric rings, as I asked before, anyone know if Breitling did the dial like this at some point?
  10. The main BCE tells are the minute indices should be a hair shorter at 3, 6, 9, 12, some have rider tabs misaligned, the engraving on the bezel/tabs could be deeper, lume should be white C1 (green C5 used on rep and sometimes sloppily applied) and crown is slightly less defined than the gen. As far as I'm aware the V3 is just a V2 with an updated date font, maybe one of the dealers can confirm this? By the way all the stuff I've mentioned above is really anal and I consider my BCE to be probably my best 'out the box' rep...I would advise any rep lover to try one...
  11. CG's are way off, mag on the crystals to weak, rehaut looks wokky on the pics and the SEL's are wrong IMO. Same here, I wouldn't bother modding it unless you want a watch to practice on. It's your call though...
  12. You couldn't get on with the kids who play with that kite though could you Dave? You're not even allowed to see that hang glider anymore as well... On a more serious note, each of the forums has it's own merits, some are fun, some are informative, some are open, some are not so open...just pick one that suits your tastes. Most of us frequent a couple, personally I visit all four regularly, even RWS now and again...
  13. A bit off topic but the previous BCE I had, a V2 graphite without the updated datefont, didn't have the concentric rings around the dial, it was plain grey, was that correct?
  14. You never mentioned any of that when I bought it off you... @By-Tor, I've got an SFSO, UPO and a modded TWB sub among others but still consider the BCE I bought from Babola my best watch...get one and make your own opinion of it... Edit...Even Dave reckons they're one of the better Breitling reps..
  15. I'm pretty sure the older GMT case is thinner than an SMP, not sure about the newer one though...
  16. If you're willing to take the caseback off, Ive used this method to unstick a gummed up balance spring. With the watch running, get a dust blower and blow it in the direction of the hairspring and this may untangle/free it. I've used this method twice now and cured two fast running watches with the same symptoms you describe...
  17. The 5800 doesn't have hardware graphic acceleration, I presume the iPhone does? Regarding apps, 10,000 expected this year versus 6000 in six years for the iPhone...

  19. I just picked up a Nokia 5800. At first I thought it was a bit so, so. A few weeks down the line and I would recommend this phone to everybody, wi-fi,gps, agps, nokia maps, best audio out there,hi-res screen the list goes on. All at a low price and in a small package. Does everything a smart phone should at a bargain price. Check it out...
  20. If you've got an old style pc monitor with a degauss function you could try holding it real close to it and hit the button...
  21. BCE? Unless you mod an older slow beat 7750 rep you'll have to broach (widen) the chrono second hand to fit on a gen ETA movement though, which can be pretty risky...
  22. Is the GMT movement ETA based or an in-house movement?
  23. It strikes me as being a bit strange that Josh spoke up about the issue on RG but not here, I wonder why? Fransisco, was the movement oiled (ie the transfer gears) or was it dry, as in the past to provide less stiction?
