  1. Too late,,,,he already got one in a trade
  2. Thanks The Zigmeister,,,you may have helped me in an unexpected way. I've had all the material for the level 2 TZ watch class, but just "haven't had time" to get to it. So, I started looking at it after reading your last post. It looks like removing the winding bridge is pretty easy and I even have a cleaner. So, I'm going to give this a go myself. Thanks again, I'll post an update when after I attempt this one.
  3. Great pictures,,,,I saw an ad that someone was looking to trade one of these for a Kobold spirit of america, which I just picked up and I have to say I'm tempted to make the trade.
  4. This would be terrible for me,,,,my watch interests literally change from week to week. I don't think I could pick one and stick with it.
  5. thanks for your input The Zigmeister. Since I don't wear my automatics each day, I usually let them run down and if I plan to wear one that day, I set it and give it about 5 turns. So I actually don't do a full manual wind and it probably only had a dozen times of giving it 5 turns. This is the same thing I've done with all my other 2824s and I've never had a problem. However, if this is the problem, I wish gen watch companies would provide a warning, "don't manually wind this watch" just like they do for the 7750 "don't use quick set between 9 and 3 am" If I can't give a few manual turns to a watch, I think I'm going to pass on the 2824 and stick with the 7750 and 6497.
  6. It does capture a mid week work day,,,however, I would have rather have the guy at a meeting rather than alone at a computer.
  7. I just passed up the one on the right for 550 (usd). I needed some time to think and after thinking about it, it was gone.... btw,,,did you ever check these aquamatics out? A giant tank of a watch, I picked one up for about 600 with a bracelet. http://www.network54.com/Forum/246582/mess...tch+-+Aquamatic
  8. I would avoid tax and about 20% and just buy a good used one. If I get another gen pam, it will be from one of the forums, just make sure the person has a good reputation and shouldn't be a problem.
  9. It is under warranty and I sent it in once and it was sent back saying it was fine. After a few emails I talked them into sending a replacement which worked for a few weeks and then had the same problem. At this point I thought I would try to fix it myself but I thought it would be around 40 just to clean the gears involved in the self winding mechanism. However, from the feedback so far I don't think I'll let this place fix it for 220....that did seem pretty expensive to me.
  10. I've had this problem with one of my Steinhart watches which uses the 2824. The problem is actually pretty simple and a few people from the forum actually helped me figure out what was wrong. When you wind it, the rotor spins and I don't mean just a little but too many turns to count with a single rotation of the crown. Anyway, just dropped it off at a respected repair place for an estimate of 220 (usd). In a way this seems crazy, I can buy the movement new for 85 and it wouldn't be a problem at all to replace. On the other hand, this estimate includes a complete overhall of the movement but it is only a few months old and keeping perfect time so that is redundant. I don't know, any thoughts would be helpful. Yes, I know,,,,,,,finish the second watch class and do it yourself is probably the best advice!
  11. I've been more and more into the Sinn U1 and 2, which I think you can pick up used for around this. Here is a brand I'll looking at, the chrono with a decorated 7750, 200 meters WR, good lum. http://bernardwatch.com/Avier
  12. mmmm,,,,,the first rep I've been interested in, in a LONG time.........
  13. This looks totally cool, great idea, I wish I would have thought of it and gave my 183 to my wife. It may have been the only way to get her to put on a pam. (my daughter is still too much into her spongebob watch to try anything else right now)
  14. Sums up my experience perfectly. Still, I kept thinking, It should be perfect, but of the three I had none really did it for me. I'm still not sure why.
  15. I thought about your problem for a while during a particularly boring meeting today. here is what I came up with,,,,,,,,,who knows if it will work,,,probably not but at least there would be little lost except your time. I would let it soak in wd40 then tape it to something that will vibrate at a high frequency, maybe a drill or something. Perhaps you can shake it loose? all you need is a little to come out to get a hold of it.
  16. I've seen some x-winds go for as low as 450 (usd), actually that is what I got mine for. You have to see the dial in person, very nice and all the screw down crowns are totally smooth.
  17. No doubt that is a great watch,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,one of the best deals for the money of any watch I've seen.
  18. I came to this exact conclusion after spending lots of money on various reps. My last few watches have all been used gens around 400-500 (usd) , all in perfect working condition. I don't want to make a general statement about reps, I know a lot of people here have had good luck, but my luck has been terrrible. I would say about half of my reps had major problems within a month. Some of these I can fix, but I would like to wear it a while before it goes on the table. I would like to see some type of warranty with reps. Of all the watches out there, reps need a warranty the most due to the lack of quality control. I still may pick up one of the new Breiltings, but if that goes bad it may be my last one. I just can't afford reps any more. Sorry if this sounds like a negative thing to say on my favorite watch forum, but it has just been too many disappointments lately.
  19. I had the exact same thought and may have even posted something similar a while back. Most of the responses were the same as trekracers, basically the 6497 is too easy and will "spoil" you. However, I don't think there is any reason not to do both.
  20. I actually had three fiddy's. I would totally get into this watch, buy it and then something always happened where I just didn't like it anymore. So, I sold it but then the feeling came back again. Crazy, I know. However, I do think I'm done with this one now.
  21. I really like the new breitlings, but it is the movement that has stopped me from ordering one. Of course, I could get one with a swiss movement for 650, but then I think, why not get a decent gen used Hamilton or Swiss Army with a gen 7750 for that price?
  22. How true,,,,,,,,,,,,,I usually just don't say anything. Then after a few drinks it's like. Hey,,,check out what I got a few days ago" However,,,in the bigger picture,,,there are far worse things one could get caught doing.
  23. this seems to have the same ending as so many other similar stories. I would have done this myself, but I didn't have anything to properly hold the bracelet while I worked on it. This morning, I decided to just try it myself. I fixed it in about ten minutes. It reminds me of part of "zen and the art of motorcycle maintanence" where he takes his bike to a similar shop, i.e., people not paying attention to what they were doing, loud music in the backgroud, etc. They also messed up his bike. Keep in mind, this was my first time doing this and I did it without scratches and it is correct now. There are times when having an investment in the work is actually more important than experience. what good is experience if you've done it the wrong way a hundred times?
  24. I really blame myself for this one. I just got a schaumburg, it's 44mm and the bracelet is the thickest I've ever seen. In fact, it was too thick to remove the pins using my press so I made my first mistake. I was impatient. I wanted it done today, so while at the mall I dropped it off at a quick fix watch repair place. My second mistake was to hand over the bracelet to a guy wearing a timex. So, first, the guy attaches the pins to the part of the bracelet that is closest to the end links. I explained that the pins should all go together by the bracelet. Ok, so he says no problem. He gives it back with a few nice scratches and I'm like ok, I need to get the hell out of here now. I get home to see that he reversed the segment of bracelet so that now the spring bar will not fit, the wider holes which allow a spring bar to fit are turned around and are now inside the bracelet. I must be maturing to some degree, I know how useless it would be to try to show this guy what was wrong with his work. No one can show a person these things.
