Steinhart, A Few Comments On A Gen Brand
chris5264 replied to chris5264's topic in Other Brands Area
Well,,,we'll see how things turn out. After I sent it in, no word yet if it was even recieved. I also like that pilot watch in SS, very nice for the price. -
I feel bad for whoever gets this one. I can imagine someone specifically looking at the paperwork and making sure they match. My guess too is that he printed these out himself (or herself ). How hard would it be with a digital camera and an image program?
-
Interesting,,,In particular I liked the machine for applying Côtes de Genève, I guess this can't be done via the Dremel?

Any Problems With The 45mm Planet Ocean Screw Down Crown?
chris5264 replied to chris5264's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Thanks,,,that should have been the first thing I tried. Anyway, it is a little more smooth but no where near a gen. I would like to get this close to a gen. Is that possible? -
I've had mine for a few days and the screw down crown is very very rough, I tried to clean it but that didn't help. Sometimes it is just a matter of time before a screw down crown becomes smooth but I was curious if anyone else had this problem and if there are any easy fixes out there if it stays this way.

bond is totally my antipersonality, I can't help but be into it, probably the reason I bought my first gen seamaster. Any idea if the black 45 PO with the 007 seconds hand will ever be rep'd?
-
I've got one on the way also,,,green bezel. I'm pretty sure these are 20mm. I'll either keep the SS bracelet or do something totally different. I don't see enough subs with a little originality as far as straps go. I might even do a green croc.

A Few Pics Of The Orange 45 Po And The Xxl Railmaster
chris5264 replied to chris5264's topic in The Omega Area
How about a few pics without the plastic? I did notice it looked strange around the insert but I thought it was just some glue. Obviously looks better without it. -
A Few Pics Of The Orange 45 Po And The Xxl Railmaster

that was pretty silly. Yes,,,it was still on there!!! Looks a bit better without it -
I guess I’m taking a break from the pams. These both seem like excellent reps and even more so for the money. I’ve heard people are not happy with the back of the PO, but I think this looks pretty good. I really can’t find any serious flaws with either. In fact, I may go for the black 45mm PO chrono.

Looks great but I would need to know it is actual pvd and not just black paint, looks like it could be real.

Receive A Non-function Daytona Watch From A Forum Member
chris5264 replied to dvn's topic in General Discussion
This seems to be a reasonable expectation. There is a big difference between cosmetic flaws (which are very common) and functional flaws. Even if the rep is under 50 (usd) I think it should work and keep decent time. I typically buy from dealers and not members (at least those I don’t know well) because the rules seem clear on this. -
I'm just learning about the PO, in fact, I should have a 45 this week from Josh. This looks pretty good to me, the omega symbol looks right, the HE release looks right. I would guess gen.

sorry,,,I was thinking of my omega,,,,,,,,,,,I meant to post under panerai...

This didn't turn out exactly as I thought it would. I cut away the dial by hand (i.e., a dremel) and that actually worked out ok, but the markers are difficult to see and when you can see them it looks a bit too flashy. Anyway, I may cut more of the dial out or just move on to another project.

Look What A Bored Noob Can Do To His Old Invicta
chris5264 replied to tonibari's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
There may very well be an instinctive need to figure out some mysteries. Some will be pulled into uncasing a watch just to see what is inside, regardless of the probability of getting it back together. Getting it back together is important, but not as important as the motivation to first take it apart,,,,,,IMO. -
Who Says Skeleton Movement ín A Pam Looks Bad?
chris5264 replied to t's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
I think the paradox of a panerai skeleton is totally cool. I think this one has the same movement you are using so should look pretty close to your final results except the hands. Wouldn't it be funny after these rep mods of a panerai skeleton if panerai ended up with a gen skeletonized pam! -
I did notice an interesting issue going on with the xxl railmaster. There were a few posts about the hands, at least the min hand, being too short on the rep. If you look at the pics from the promotion ad you get from the AD and the official site, it does look like the min hand is longer than the reps. However, if you look at some actual gens out there, the rep looks perfect. TTK posted some pics of his and I've seen some gens posted on other forums, the rep looks perfect, but you can't compare it to the office pics from omega, just actual gens out there.

here is a look at the dial. Not perfect but totally done by hand,,,well with a dremel. I'm not sure how this will look, I didn't realize that the markers now show the movement which looks a bit flashy. Still, some progress.

Steinhart, A Few Comments On A Gen Brand
chris5264 replied to chris5264's topic in Other Brands Area
A few weeks after buying my gen omega seamaster, the bezel became bidirectional. It was gone about 3 and a half months. The AD I bought it from no longer has Omegas because their service was so poor. It was just nice to see a change. The one on the left is 47, and the Steinhart is 46 but looks much bigger on the wrist. -
I’m used to great service from people like Joshua and Davidsen but I have to admit I was totally unprepared for the service I’m getting from Steinhart. I know a few people on this forum have mentioned the brand from time to time. I ended up with an aircraft 8, very impressive watch. With the green, the whole dial is lum and really glows. Anyway, after a few weeks, something seemed wrong with winding it, I think the rotor is loose. Not a big problem that I would fix myself, but because it is under warranty I thought I would drop an email. The CEO (Jon) of Steinhart actually wrote back in a few hours and asked when a good time to call would be! We had a pleasant conversation and obviously it will be fixed. I expected it to be fixed, but an actual call these days is pretty impressive. Seems like they are going out of their way to build a reputation. Imagine someone from Omega or Panerai actually picking up a phone these days for a watch under a grand???? Here it is with my Azimuth

I'm going to try to cut out an inner circle leaving the numbers. yes, I picked up a skeleton 6497 from ajoesmith which should be perfect for this project. I'll have another beer and get out the dremel....
-
I have one of Jimmy's cases and a crown guard from Josh's pam 112 fits perfectly on it. I'm not sure if this helps.....
-
sorry for the bad pic,,,,,,,here is what I did. Case is a big improvement but needs those hands.
