you know its funny- the majority of real etas i have were bought from 'scam' sites like Ideal
and Bestswiss, including a Daytona that i'm pretty sure has a real Valjoux 7750!
now that was several years ago, before the current gen mov't 'crisis'. the truth is now i don't think that anybody
can get the regular eta automatic movements. perhaps they can still get the real 7750 or hand wound Unitas.
i don't think the color matters. i'm not sure but the mov't in that DJ MAY
be a clone. chris from eurotimez posted some pix showing that the big gray wheel should usually be brushed finish in the gen and shiney
in the clone. but that may not always be true. its hard to tell unless you are an expert. also some of the newer mov't may be hybrids or recycled .
none of my reps have lume that lasts all night like a gen will. if they last a few hours, you're lucky!
i never sent any to be lumed by the special lume people however.
i have to say my experience with DSN was very good. i sent WU and got the watch in 3 days!
He even sent 2 extra bands (good quality ) for free. the watch works fine, the lume is good but doesn't
last very long.
some of those special begin-YM, sub, GMT, etc. are pretty good.
i have a YM (noob factory) $100 model and it looks good. its got a crappy
noisy asian mov't but it works well. less trouble than swiss clone models!
I just bought a PAM 089 from Davidsen. i had no problems and got the watch in 3 days!
he even sent me 2 extra bands- free.
btw- i paid $350 for everything
my main point is the seagull is a copy and they advertise these watches as
having 'gen swiss etas' and charge alot of $$. if its a copy, they should tell you (theoretically)
and charge less. this YM is about $700. i know, we spend alot on A7750's too sometimes like
with the HB BB. at least we know up front its asian. this copy/clone thing has gotten to be a pet peeve of mine.
i spent alot of $$ fixing my watches with 'swiss' mov't'. the truth is- the cheapo asians DO work well.
you're kidding! a seagull mov't!! they swear up & down they use gen eta's. but i really doubt it.
i got a WM9 sub from PT and i've had problems already with the mov't. you should see the date wheels they put in these
reps! they are a paper cut-out, and they fit on top of another date wheel that has smaller numbers. then they have the balls to charge $700.
you can't get the 40mm PAMs any more. if you check @ RepGeek there are alot of threads
describing the different model #'s. it gets very confusing. Check josh or Andrew's site- you can see a
large selection. many people also recommend (myself included) Davidsen.
well - i didn't get scolded, but not 1 comment @ RG.
i guess you're right Robbie, maybe we're a little more jaded (and older in my case)
than alot of the people. in NYC- i often wonder how everybody supports all this lavish
stuff.perhaps i was out of touch, but alot of the guys @ RG & RWG1 seem quite successful. for ex; Dave 123
always showing his blinged-out gen Breiting. in the end i think its political- i'm not part of the 'in crowd' there.
Let's see what happens now. I just posted the rest of my collection,
including 30 something reps and some nice gens i got my girlfriend.
the funny thing is Tanfog's collection is posted on all the boards. He literally has more stuff than
many AD's. All people do is applaud that. I'm sure there are people around here with more than 100 watches
so i certainly do not come close to that.
