  1. Or you could always get an ETA Noobmariner.
  2. Yesterday and today have been 3717 days.
  3. Agreed. Sure, the Tourbillon isn't in these Millionsmarts for accurate timekeeping, but merely as a device to sell complicated watches, but the same can be said for Blancpains and Breguets. I can't wait to see what they'll do next.
  4. Either will do. Do you want a Chrono? BCE wins. If not, Steelfish wins. It's all opinion, either way. For the record, my opinion is that the Steelfish wins because the movement is the same as the genuine.
  5. You're missing the point. The poor sap putting together the watch is not getting $390, he's getting a few cents. Oh, and bad spelings don't hurt sales, apparently. We still buy them.
  6. Homer sells an excellent Tourbillon on this very forum for $500
  7. Counterfeiting? Forget about counterfeiting and try a real-world example: Just imagine you were typesetting a Chinese restaurant menu. Could you proof it?
  8. You could always read the easy-to-find tutorial I wrote: How To Post Photos Of Your Watches Here
  9. The problem is that the type is set by people to whom the letters mean nothing. Could you tell the difference between Chinese characters?
  10. Like the Aussies did?
  11. Shhh ... you promised you'd not tell!
  12. Today, I decided to wear a lumpy Breitling. I may change the bracelet to a strap later if it weighs down my arm too much. As for Saturday and Sunday, I'll decide each morning. I can't plan that far ahead. The one on the left:
  13. HD on 1GB? Here's a setup I've used for HD video (uncompressed, 1080i): http://ten80.fr/index.php?page=tech&article=hdstorage
  14. That's a crappy rep. Wait for the decent Aquatimer rep to come out this month (or next).
  15. I have a few ...
  16. ... and the UK version doesn't use the Liz Frasier-less version of Teardrop.
  17. Never, ever, ever download TV or movies at work unless you know you'll never get caught. It's the sort of think you get sacked over.
  18. Use one of these RSS feeds with Azureus and add "house;" to your auto-RSS regex. http://tvrss.net/feeds/ I use the Unique one and it works wonders.
  19. USB2 is fine for video on a Mac, as long as you're not working in HD and as long as you've got enough RAM to buffer the stream. Sure, Firewire is better for continuous bursts, but USB2 is fast enough.
  20. Today, I opened my watchbox for something that's not my Planet Ocean and was drawn to my old faithful Pugwatch. For those who don't know it, it's been serviced by the amazing The Zigmeister and has a genuine IWC dial. Pugwatch in Paris: Pugwatch in Scotland:
  21. The debate over hard drives in laptops is one of speed vs power consumption/noise/heat. While a 7200rpm drive may be faster than a 5400rpm drive, which one uses more power, or which one creates the most noise and heat, requiring louder fans and even more power consumption? Before upgrading your laptop HDD, make sure you're not crippling the laptop with unrealistic power and cooling demands first.
  22. I need to get a job before Nov 9th just so I can get an iPhone. Yes, I know they're only EDGE, but I'll spend most of my time in WiFi range. For what I do on a Mobile (Google Maps, BBC News, occasional email) my RAZR (regular GPRS) seems to be quick enough so a slightly faster EDGE connection will do me fine, I hope. At least EDGE doesn't eat batteries for breakfast like 3G does.
  23. Ah, it seems Stephane did confuse you. With modern Subs (16610) you can't really do the same mods as the vintage Subs. The Noobmariner is a modern Sub and as such, you can't change the bezel/crystal assembly with genuine parts. Besides, you don't need to as ... well, lots of reasons that this thread has nothing to do with. I think, in principle, you're right. All modern Subs can be modded to get rid of some of their defects, but none can be modded to make them perfect. This is due to the dimensions of the Rolex movement at the heart of the watch. The rehaut and crown position can never be identical to the genuine as long as the counterfeiters are using an ETA 2824/2836 movement.
