  1. Is this still believed to be the case?
  2. Indeed. Profess your excellency.
  3. At no point in this thread did anyone say "Do a search". It's not particularly common on this forum. This thread went on for pages until people basically said "Why can't you just tell us?". This thread isn't oldies berating newbies, it's newbies flinging mud at oldies for not being helpful enough, or berating them over percieved attacks that never actually happened here.
  4. I think I must have badly expressed my point as that's not at all what I was saying. I didn't get jumped upon as I read before posting, I don't consider myself a super-expert and I posted a link to an article in which all subs, both modern and vintage are detailed. Either my writing skills have completely left me or you're reading my posts prejudicially, assuming I'm going down one path while I am in fact trying to retain some neutrality at this point. I'll try again, only I'll post my points clearer so I don't force people do infer my meaning. Here we go. We've had this thread a zillion times. Posts on this very subject (albeit not precisely as the 'outsourcing' purspeed appears to need) have been put up in the welcome sections and no-one reads them. If this place is to retain a character that is not like the old RWG, then new visitors need to learn the character of the forum and abide by the look and feel lest this place become a wild west of flame wars and airbrushed porn. No-one reads sticky posts.
  5. The only place I've found outside our coterie of sites is Silix.
  6. Well, you can, but it's best to just wear them all the time. If you don't want to wind them for whatever reason, you can just give them a swirl for a second, set the time and put it on your wrist. However, seeing as you have the crown out to reset the time, you may find that screwing the crown back in gives it enough of a wind to get it going on the way to your wrist.
  7. Coming from China (used for my Silix orders): http://www.ems.com.cn/english-main.html
  8. If you get asked the same question day-in, day-out, it's not a discussion, it's a job. I know I'm not paid to be here, and I doubt anyone else is. I don't have an overinflated sense, and I'm still fairly newbie here myself, but when I arrived, I read the rules first and all the intro posts that the experts graciously made. I learned very, very quickly that asking who had the best sub would label me whipping boy until I started earning a rep. I'm sorry that you think that everyone is having a go at you, but this isn't the first time this thread has cropped up and it's not the last.
  9. A discussion board isn't about the experts serving as unpaid lackeys for newbies either. It's about discussion. Asking "Who has the best sub" isn't discussion, it's demanding lackey-work of people who are fed up of being told what to do by newbs. You wonder why their reactions can be harsh? Imagine this. Every time we have a newbie, we get THIS EXACT THREAD yet no-one has ever followed up on their promise to research the data and present it. No-one, not a single noob, ever. The best we ever got was Edge's guide to subs and he's not one of the noobs. You all read this, right?
  10. I thought you were. How about asking differently, as I don't see what else you can mean.
  11. The Replica Collector (A sister site to this one, for some reason), RWI (the Dark Side) and Watch Trader are all listed in the FAQ, iirc.
  12. Turning chickens upside down is a common activity. It's used to induce tonic immobility, much like in sharks. See? Something else you didn't know!
  13. To an end-user? A 40-hour reserve on the 2836 vs a 38 hour reserve on the 2824. The 2824 is thinner, and that's about it, iirc.
  14. Cyanoacrylate should be avoided at all costs on movements as the fumes are effective as a glue. edit: cyanoacrylate is superglue, by the way ...
  15. He was good in Leeds ... ps. Chronus, your PM box is full.
  16. Trusty has it on his site for $108, so Neil isn't the only choice. The ETAs at the same price aren't the same quality case, iirc. Edit to point out my Sub from TTK was my first purchase and it went like a dream. No issues, Neil responded to mails, arrived in time, etc. Perfect.
  17. This one is not true, by the way. Duck quack echo in MP3 format
  18. The $108 Sub is significantly better than the ETAs at a slightly higher price point. I'll include my obligatory $108 Sub photo at the end of this post, but want to know if you're honestly recommending that a newbie join this forum and immediately splash out on a $550 MBW (or whatever they cost these days) and send it off to get modded? Here's my classification of modern Subs: Affordable - $108 Sub. Everyone needs to own one of these just to know what value they can get. It's the ideal starter-rep, along with the Silix 111h. Better - Precious Time's Ultimate or Josh's pre-modded. These are excellent entry points that can be bought with a simple PM or click on a webpage. They're not cheap, but they'll do what most people expect and are painless to obtain. Best - MBW with mods and OEM parts. Once you know what you want, and can cope with hunting down parts, waiting weeks for a package from Thailand, booking in some Joe/Palp/The Zigmeister time, waiting weeks ... Rolex - Slap down five grand, walk away with a Rolex. Anything else is merely stuff in between. This is all an exceedingly personal opinion and in no way reflects reality or the truth etc. I'll shut up now and point you at the pretty pic of a hunnerddollawatch:
  19. I remember the Sun headlines from the last England/Germany match: "Don't mention the score" Yes, it was 5-1 to England.
  20. He sells cheap $100 asian modern Subs and LVs as well.
  21. And this is where the whole thing falls apart. These two are the sectors that people are most likely to buy from. The $108 asian Sub (the Noobmariner) is one of the top selling reps of all time, apparently, and it's far from rubbish, and there are a lot of worse Subs that are also "Asian Automatic Sub Reps". The ETA Subs are of exceedingly variable quality, from those with the Noobmariner case, to those with worse cases, and they can go from under $100 to close to $200. The list as it stands now is merely watch porn: The rep equivalent of Supercar magazines bought by people who really buy Astras and 205s.
