Agreed, recently seen from $200-$450. I picked one up recently for $50 but it needed a new dial, which cost me a further $80!!! Then a service...oh well... still nice to get a gen for the price of a rep. O/S

They are not phillips head screws on the back, are they? Do you know what movement it runs...that is an interesting date wheel/s! Interesting looking watch. Offshore

Quartz movment watchs that are lust-worthy
offshore replied to Packard's topic in General Discussion
A wise man from around these parts once said- "A quartz watch has no soul." Something I have lived with now for a number of years. However these latest entries- Just keep getting worse LOL. So I'm sure someone can come up with something a little more in keeping to "make my day" Offshore -
As above- I have been looking at a range of these units. Now I fully realise that some of the very cheap ones are just dinky toys, but it appears to me that something in the $100-$200 price range, may be a worthwhile investment, not only for use in repairs, but also for some VERY close up pics. I understand that once the lens is moved say 6"-8" away from the subject (to give room to work on the movement) the magnification drops dramatically (8" gives only 10X), as against 200X with the lens almost touching. Anyone had any experience with these things? And what do the photographers in our midst have to say about the photos they produce? I do use a stereo microscope almost daily for my work on watches, (basically on quartz circuits), so another option is to buy a camera which can be mounted on my microscope. So I am also interested in anyones take on this option? Offshore

Gee, If reps got any cheaper...you may find a lack of QC, or after sales backup O/S

Hmmmm, My bad Wouldn't have thought there were 2 who could own such a valuable, yet obscenely mixed bunch of watches! Must come as part of the territory of having that name! Genes?? Offshore

Honestly, I just thought I recollected some of the watches! Couldn't agree more Doc! ( although there may be a couple of others in there, that could rest there shoes under my bed. I am a bit of a U N fan!) Seems everything he had to own, was a "limited edition" Methinks , if one needs to own mostly limited editions, it qualifies their brain power. Unfortunately...it WAS some collection. From memory again, his wife got to keep some of her watches..... and some of his which had been catalogued in his collection went "missing"! His bankrupt estate never saw too many $$! As an added bit of spice to this tale, his chauffeur, had been involved with one of our top models, and she subsequently "fell off a cliff". He was eventually extradited from England, and charged with her murder, and found guilty. The court case bought out all sorts of wonderful celebrity scandals, as is the want of the rich and famous. Drug dealing, insurance fraud, gay sex, it had just about the lot! http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/rivk...9-1111117618824 No, I don't think Australia will forget the outlandish Rene Rivkin, any time soon. Ah ha! Even my old brain remembers the discussions at the time.... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...7&hl=Rivkin http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...9&hl=Rivkin Yep I think that was it! From memory, there was even some controversy over the auction, I think some pieces went missing! (Must have been Cornerstone adding to his collection ) O/S

Where did you find that BT? I think that looks like the Rivkin Collection, and I suspect it has been sold up! http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw-...i-1111114622058 He died a few years back, after being convicted for insider trading. A very controversial man here in Oz. Offshore

Top Gun V2 recieved - possibly defective? Advice please
offshore replied to THXuk's topic in The IWC Area
The shot you have, of the engraving on the side...is "average". Not being critical of photo skills....but how good is the side engraving.?? Other reviews have been that this is very good, yet your photo is ???? As far as your problem...I would have to agree that hopefully a service will fix this. Try that euro connection, or just ring a few local watchmakers, and ask if they will work on a rep, with a Chinese movt. You may be surprised how many will embrace the work, in these tighter financial times. And ...NO, it is not good enough for the suppliers to "run for cover" when a problem arises. Unfortunately, this is becoming the norm, and the time is coming , very soon, when suppliers will need to be made more accountable. But finally, it is only the buyers out there, who can achieve this, either by their reviews in the suppliers areas, or by selecting those suppliers who are performing at an acceptable level. This can only be achieved through reviews of watches actually purchased, and those reviews showing in the suppliers areas. Hope you get this one sorted, and I may say that this is a watch of interest to me, but what I have seen thus far breeds not a lot of confidence. Offshore -
What did you expect? Pleeeeeease, don't search "images"! Offshore (I just get oil rig stuff)

In talking with one of my contacts, he has offered to source parts for Chinese mechanical movements. I know there has been a bit of discussion about non availability of parts.....so my question is- What parts do you guys need for these movements? I think stems for A7750 were one problem? But if we can compile a list of items and movements ( Brand and model) which are generally seen to be required, I will see what can be sourced. He tells me he is starting to receive copies of parts breakdown lists, so I am hoping to get some to hand soon...hope they are in English! Offshore

Looking for sources for consumables (Rodico, oil, screws etc.)
offshore replied to Drulee's topic in General Discussion
Interesting Tee Jay, although it is not much cheaper than Rodico, unless it is in your local newsagent! Certainly worth a try. O/S
