I guess anything which has been applied over another metal NOT using an electro plating process, has come under this heading. Would be interesting to dig up some of the early definitions and requirements of the various processes. O/S

I understand the process involves heat. Inside the back cover reads- "English Make-Guaranteed to be made of two plates of 10K gold with plate of composition between and to wear for 20 years" By the mint condition it still exhibits, the guarantee could have been for 50 or 100 years. I consider this watch to be a classic example of gold wrap or rolled gold. So gold wrap does exist...maybe not very often in reps, but it is common place in genuine watches and jewellery. Offshore

I spotted this watch a few days back on Ebay and marked it as worthy of a bid at maybe $200! One major drawback to this and any other scheme involving this forum or any other though wat! The forums try desperately to not be involved in the mechanics of any sales as this then makes them a target. Some years back we kicked around the idea of operating as an escrow service, to vet sales and make sure buyer and seller got a fair shake, but you have to understand that everyone working on the forums is doing so in a voluntary capacity, and no one needs the heat that becoming involved in the (illegal) sale of a rep watch would bring. Even being a conduit as an escrow means the parties are aiding and abetting the (illegal) transaction. And if anyone was a party to insuring an (illegal) transaction, I believe they would be equally culpable. Nice idea, but unfortunately won't happen. Now, if someone was to set up an escrow service as a commercial undertaking, that would be a different matter, but they would find themselves under the same microscope as the dealers. Pass for me! Which is why I set up selling LEGAL tools~! Offshore

Pay Pal and Ebay management are no better that bottom feeders. Just low scum. Whoever was responsible for granting this non bank, the banking powers they have without any controls, must have been in receipt of some substantial backhanders. The whole set up of Pay Pal and Ebay needs immediate review by regulators, and at VERY LEAST, they need to come under the auspices of the Banking Ombudsman......Who probably would be horrified to think they had to try and regulate this bunch of thieves. At least the employment numbers at the Ombudsman would rise substantially, as they would be totally inundated with horror stories of misappropriated funds. But I'll bet the authorities are already ducking for cover, and I'm damn sure we will never find out who copped the backhanders to grant these thieves access to millions! Picked up a Duxot diver like this- ( but black dial) in a bunch of watches last week. (Doesn't owe me big bucks) When I start to research it, I see some references to Doxa, (admittedly only from 1 Ebay seller), who appears to deal in them. But no one else seems to know of a connection. Don't have the actual watch yet, but i will photo movement and details and post here when received. in the mean time i wonder if anyone else knows anything about this breed? Offshore

FFS. Its not the QC pics that are the issue here! Its that they are posted on fora asking for all the world to comment on them. It's "Who has the best sub" all over again, but in 3D.... for all the Gen Y'ers to have someone else do their work for them. No wonder the dealers don't want the stuff up on the forum..they would end up waiting for a month until the survey of all the 'experts" on the buyers forum have had their input. Maybe someone can start a 20 question poll, on the QC pic of their $99.00 special. Now wouldn't THAT be special! If you have a QC pic supplied...LOOK at it....make your OWN DECISION about the watch....do your OWN HOMEWORK...amazingly you may actually learn something from this process and become a more knowledgeable watch person because of it...or not! Unless of course you want a lecture in the correct procedure to order from him (whilst the rules keep changing) Bob Frei...as has been previously reported....is a nut case. Any buying experience is just that, a true experience, but not something which needs to be repeated. If they were only $2.00ea it would be FAR too much money, to have to put up with his ravings. Another thought on this. All the tracking number scans are taken from the barcode. What if a mark, either from a pencil/pen, or even dirt, has gotten on the parcel in the area of the barcode, and is creating a misread of the tracking number. Either on the UK bound parcel or more likely on the USA one. I have had this happen with barcodes used for inventory control....in one instance a bug had been squashed on a stock label, and the barcode was incorrectly reading the stock item Took quite some figuring out as we had one quantity of items in two locations, Maybe your UK parcel is just caught up in all the Christmas back log, and is still in transit, and a parcel with a smear on the barcode is reading an incorrect # on its way to the USA. Are the tracking details on both the same? ie Is the dispatch point the same city, time etc?, Can you see or get parcel dimensions/weights?. Can you lodge an inquiry into the USA parcel and find out a potential delivery addy for it? I guess all these things will be dealt with once some normality resumes after next Tuesday. Its a bloody mystery however. Offshore

I think the 1st QC pics floated around as purely QC items, were of the early WM9 Subs. I clearly remember getting a price & a pic of a watch for a mate. He went over it with a micrometer and found the 12 marker to be out by 0.01mm (or something equally as silly), ( And not taking into account it may have been photographed on an angle.) When i asked for another watch and photo, the answer was "I don't think I want to sell a watch to your mate!" End of story. That did happen a couple or three years back. Don't think a lot changes. See those QC photos can get you into all sorts of problems Seriously, Does the tracking # show on the same label as you can see your address on? There have been MANY instances when a dealer has affixed a tracking # to a package, and subsequently issued another number. Remember that is only a form which can be filled out however, and has no validity until it is scanned at the PO or courier company. Some dealers have a bad habit of grabbing a form and telling the buyer a number, and then that form gets used on another shipment. Only if your addy is FILLED IN on the form with THAT NUMBER on it, and was subsequently correctly scanned, does the deliver address issue become one for the courier or PO. I bring better that 1 package /week out of China. I reckon every 3rd one suffers an altered tracking #...for one reason or another. This sure sounds fishy though..i will be interested in the final result. I'm guessing your goods aren't in the package in the USA with that tracking # and its not your addy on the label. Offshore

I believe we are now talking about two seperate things. The first is an ID photo, taken by the seller, for perusal by the buyer, to assure both parties they understand what each is talking about. Have no problems with that, its only plain sense. However the recent rash of QC photos, purporting to be of the very watch the client is getting is just silly. And even sillier when a noob displays said photo on a forum, and asks the membership to pick it apart. I'm sure a macro photo of some gens will show some insignificant issue that cannot be seen with the naked eye, yet here we are not only condoning this practice, we are encouraging it. It may be acceptable by a few of the anal retentives we have around, but it sends the wrong message to buyers IMO. No wonder the dealers are asking buyers not to put photos up on the forums. I'll bet their strike rate in sending out the original photographed watch is extremely low. Or maybe they have a photo of a "perfect" example to show to every buyer? Which is probably a lot closer to the truth! Don't forget Little White Lies. Offshore PS. And NO, i don't do QC pics of tools!
