  1. Think it may be time to remind all of Rule #7. 7] - Be nice to each other and respect the RWG admin team and moderators. No personal attacks. In particular, malicious comments that insult others based on race, gender, religion, nationality, or sexual preference will not be tolerated. The fastest way to get removed from the community is to turn a discussion into a personal confrontation. I take umbrage at the use of the word "allegation". Must we play a tape, document PM's.... (not going to happen), or is the word of a group of administrators not enough? I'm actually getting very tired oif these continued attacks.... it's done...get over it.... go and talk about watches...or something.... even Pamela Andersons tatas... it would be more entertaining. Offshore
  2. If anyone knows the sports teams adage "what happens on tour, stays on tour", then you will appreciate the sentiments of the group who are your admin team. I am an 'old timer' as far as the boards are concerned, probably only predated by T, and a couple of others, including TTK! My time around the boards, particularly over the past 2-3 years, has been spent, more in admin duties, than as a regular contributor. Categorically, I have never been more fortunate, in working with a group of people, than I have been, to work with the RWG team. (Only wish my day job had such great personnel) This group is unified in its desire to offer its members the best possible arena for discussion of watches, and specifically replica watches. In this quest, the group that formed as the admin team, are now the most like minded, and collectively like-thinking group, I have ever had the pleasure of associating with. We discuss many matters, and don't always all totally agree, however we do agree on one point. Once a concensus is reached, that is the view of the collective. And wobetide anyone who attacks a member, or the group. This board has no place for aggravation, personal attacks, threats, racism... I believe most understand the boundaries, and your team will, as a group, deal with these types of unacceptable behaviour. This is not an "open" forum, it is not the wild west, it is an area to discuss watches in an amicable manner. So those who seek to disrupt, to "stir the pot", or attempt to put unacceptable agenda, are well advised to seek other arenas. And those who feel inclined to attack, threaten or berate the admin team, who are only working for the good of the forum, should also find other platforms, as they are not required in our camp. Off my soap box now.... we will always as a group, do what we consider to be the best for the forum and its members. Enjoy your time with us, or move on if you are not happy with these ideals.. It's all actually pretty easy! Offshore
  3. Chief, I use a visor for "offsite" work, mainly battery changing and the like. At home I have an illuminated magnifier, on an arm, for the less delicate jobs, and a clip on eyeglass loupe with variable mag to 40X, for the finer detail stuff. If you are going for a loupe, research a bit, and buy better quality. it will pay in the longer term. Offshore
  4. @ahchard, The crown appears to have a pretty long external stem protruding. It may well be that the crown has just unscrewed. Look inside the crown stem area, and if you see female thread, this is the case. It could be screwed back on, using some Locktite, and be "good as new' If the stem has snapped, it really is no biggy to replace the stem. You may find more problems however, in getting the broken part out of the crown. Offshore
  5. Dave, From another with very similar views to yours.....i find the knowledge i gain from this forum, allows me to buy used gens with the confidence that I won't get caught! So it is worth sticking around, just for the tells! Oh, and there are a pretty knowleagable bunch of members here, a lot who i can now proudly call "friend". Enjoy your new passion, and say hello from time to time. Offshore
  6. Not at all, just "over here" As suggested, would love to respond in another thread. Well, I note that he has posted as recently as today, so just maybe we were able to assuage his concerns, just as we regularly do...for all members who ask! Don't see that it is "shut down", just asking that it be taken to another thread! It is this sort of comment, that should be seen as irrelevant! You make far too many assumptions! Please take your argument/grievance... whatever....elsewhere, and it will be dealt with. However please don't put words in to anyones' mouths. We have here someone attempting to explain reasons for a lack of performance. I don't belive it is beholdant of the membership, to denigrate that person, specifically with regard to the issues involved. Please air any grievances away from this thread. Offshore
  7. Mezzanine, I beleive some of your comments are inappropriate at this time, and most of your last post is Off Topic to this discussion. If you desire to engage the admin in discussion of their ability to "control" this place, maybe another thread on this matter is where you need to be. If however, you wish to make a long distance diagnosis, of a members medical problems, i'm sure there are many other arenas for such a discussion. And I'm sure the medical profession would be delighted with your input into this long range diagnostic ability. They have failed to come to grips with this ability for many years! Offshore
  8. The next abusive post, will see this thread closed. This is a place for civil people to discuss watch matters, not for abuse. Offshore PS And the next abusive poster, can look forward to a time out.
  9. Ryy, Just hope you don't use your avatar in your communication with those bankers! 'Cos even K1w1 bankers would know they had seen that face .....somewhere! Offshore
  10. Totally guessing, but I think + A$250 will by this (the same for the GMT he has!) Time will tell! O/S
  11. Spotted this one tonite on the 'bay. Looks like he has a bit of Rx stuff, and it looks gen to me. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Rolex-vintage-1665-...1QQcmdZViewItem Just watch out for the "reserve' Offshore
  12. Think you may find it is more like.... There a couple or a few plants which do CNC work and specialise in cases (Both rep and for gen manufacturers,) There are a couple of plants doing dials (All sorts) A couple selling pins and spring bars.... some others with hands... A couple or three who do various bracelets/straps.... and of course movement suppliers. Or some intermix of the above. Also other parts suppliers.. O rings, crystals, etc etc. THEN the entrepreneurial "wholesaler" takes a photo, or a watch,(in bits) to each of his suppliers and gets pricing for his required parts... gets the best he can.... or orders a quantity.... and his family or extended family and friends assemble all the bits. Sometimes a supplier runs out of stock, so he uses the next best available component supplier. This may be a lot closer to the true scenario, albeit it may be on a bigger scale, it would certainly explain the variations we see in the "same" model, also the "dealer" incarnations eg MBK, MBW. etc. Just a wild guess, however with a little understanding of the Chinese watch parts trade! Offshore
  13. On the 'bay tonite....Old watchmakers bench needing some TLC...cheap. http://cgi.ebay.com/WATCHMAKERS-BENCH-AS-I...1QQcmdZViewItem Offshore BTW, this seller has a shipload of other interesting stuff!
  14. Is it really big and bulky? May pay to get an airfreight price as well! As a rule of thumb, I usually allow something like 10% for freight customs etc... That can vary considerably, but its not a bad starting point. Offshore
  15. I bring stuff in from China every week. In Oz, there are all sorts of charges, duties, taxes, even down to fumigating wooden crates, if a certificate from the supplier is not given. (on top of the actual freight cost) Also depends on your buying terms. Are the goods FOB? (Free on board) Or ex store? As there will be an extra charge for freight/handling at the dispatch point. Suspect the US would be little different... I suggest you get in touch with a Freight Forwarder/Expeditor, and ask for a quote, including customs agents charges and inland freight at your end. Then get 2 more! Gotta keep 'em honest, and we see huge differences. One recent shipment (A full 40'container) had almost $3k in variations in the quotes! Offshore
  16. As a wise man elsewhere said..."Quartz watches have no soul" (Unfortunately 99.9% of all watches "born" each year, are soul less!) Why is it that we have a shortage of watchmakers...easy...the quartz watch! We live in a throw away society...the battery goes flat... and it's either thrown, or put in a drawer. You would be amazed how many people haggle over the price to fit a battery.....and then produce multiple watches (up to 10 - 20) which "aren't going"... and the great majority just need a new battery. I see it every week.... and have just finished 2 batches, one of 7 watches (all "revived") and one of 11 watches... (10 are OK- the other needs a new quartz crystal) I find I spend less and less time working on mechanicals, and so your skills and learning suffer. Offshore
  17. Glad you are fixed. I actually just got back from spending some time at ETA doing my "research" This doc https://secure.eta.ch/CSP/DesktopDefault.as...=3&tabid=28 Use the technical info, shows the stem (but not all measurements) and shows the crossreference, (which I confirmed from another cross ref chart.) BTW before you go buying stems, I have an assortment of ETA (18 different models - 3 pieces of each total 54 stems, which we sell for $25) if that may help. Now I'm not in to doing adverts or promo on the forum, so let's just say i do a little business in watch assortments and parts as a sideline. PM if you need anything. Offshore
  18. LLsteve, I'm sitting here now, looking at a 2836-2 stem. haven't checked the ETA site, but I assume they are the same. The one you have looks marginally shorter in the distance from the tip, to the first"collar", however without a measurement, it could be foreshortening in the photo. Do you have you some callipers? If so measure the tip to collar distance (suppose you could look it up on the ETA site) and give me a yell. Alternatively I can shoot one in the mail...PM me. Offshore PS Actually, the more I look at it...if you take a ratio of the 1st section from tip, compared to the 2nd flat section, there is a difference.
  19. Big difference between, ATTEMPTING to report, and that statement! r11co, I don't think you have a big enough pot to stir! Try this.
  20. Or maybe, he just hasn't, as yet, had that accident?????? Offshore
  21. Run a 90 tap down the 120 stem? offshore
  22. slay, I'm sure Admin knew exactly who everyone was... including himself Glad you all had such a great GTG. OS
  23. CS, You know golfers.... always trying for that elusive. "hole in one" Offshore
  24. Yep, Unfortunately no "Trading Standards" in a virtual (and illegal) world. Also no way to police, prosecute or jail! However, and more to the point. Most visitors to these sites, come here to gain knowledge, some also come to assist the running and operation. Others come to pass on knowledge gained from the past. Some do so in a quiet and refined manner, others feel that a confrontational attitude is required to make a point. And some visit to improve their fortunes. Unfortunately there are a few of the latter, who come to do so, through theft, deception, trickery and cunning. And we move them on, once they become known. Sort of a roundabout version of "Trading Standards", in an oh so virtual way! Probably the best compromise, sans a police force! Offshore
