  1. Without using too much force, see if you can pop the bezel off the crystal. Also you can try mic'ing the OD of the bezel, and the ID of the seat in the case. See if the crystal has "shrunk" or maybe it was a glued fit and has dried and glue become brittle. Does the bezel (still) revolve on the crystal? I am assuming it is an acrylic crystal, with an inbuilt bezel lip, and it may well just be a press fit. If you can get a model/serial/case no, off the watch back, I have a bunch of Citizen data sheets which may help to explain things. Offshore PS Another thought. Has this watch got a caseback? Maybe it is a crystal access movement, going on what your watchmaker said? Does the crystal noticeably protrude above the bezel?
  2. Ahhh Ziggy, You often say there are no tricks in watchmaking! However your tips (for want of a better word) are the icing on the cake for all us wannabee repairers. Thanks again mate. Offshore
  3. Keyless works! Maybe worth trying a new stem! (but don't think so)
  4. Actually Joe, RWG should thank you! Your posts have always been valuable contributions to the forum. It is members such as yourself who are the lifeblood of this place. So thanks to you, and all such as you, whose contributions make RWG what it is! Offshore
  5. Hey, Great find! Haven't seen this before, and it has some seriously good links! All you newcomers, should be adding this to your "favourites" Thanks bwhitesox Offshore. PS. For me, this sort of info, is what this hobby, and these forums are all about!
  6. Another post on this CD thing! Have just arrived home from my sabbatical, and found a number of enquiries via PM for more CD's. So into January, I will put together another batch! However, seriously, this will be the last run I do. Anyone wanting something, shoot me a PM with your needs.... review what is available back on Pg 1 of this thread, and I will give you a PP addy. Offshore
  7. Moppel PM sent. I will be home in a couple of days, and sort this one then. But no worries, i will send you another CD. Offshore
  8. Great post predfan! We will leave this run a month or so, and if anyone else has some other ideas/thoughts, I'm sure predfan won't worry about thread crapping Will then make it a sticky, or have it as part of a noob intro, which we may develop in the New Year. Again, top stuff guys. Offshore
  9. Mate, you've been hanging out with this bunch of reprobates for so long, you will have trouble being accepted anywhere else Take care in your travels my friend, and the door is always ajar at your other "home". Offshore
  10. A final up date. Just in from the madness that is Christmas shopping..... Wow some people really do get into "car park rage", and amazingly most of the cursing I heard was from the female gender. Took 20 mins to find a park, 40 mins in a queue to get to the counter at the Post office, and another 20 to stamp and process all the mailers! Think my blood pressure was up a bit to! Anyway, ALL CD's, DVD's are now in the mail (12.30pm Wednesday-Oz time) So I trust the mailman is "speedy" Enjoy people! Offshore
  11. @phaedo, Yeh I thought so to, 'specially when some of this info is not readily obtainable. c'est la vie! So a final update. I have now completed burning all CD's and DVD's. Those of you receiving the ETA info will get 2 x discs, with the ETA info on DVD. (Just too big to pull back to a CD!) All of the balance will got to mail tomorow am, (7pm Tuesday now in Oz) Hope they all make it for some holiday reading and learning. Will confess to a limited level of QC,.... after the first few burned OK, I just checked that the files were present on the balance, so if anyone has any issues, please PM. Any other starters now, will need to be quick out of the blocks, to catch this run. Enjoy. Offshore
  12. I am happy to report, that after much teeth gnashing, beating fists on the computer shop counter, and expense to the management....the CD rollout has commenced. Hope they all get to their prospective owners for Christmas, if not you should see 'em before New Year. The first "burns" were mailed today, and hopefully the balance will post tomorrow. As a little bonus.....I happened to lay my grubby hands on a set of service and parts manuals for Bulova Accutron "Tuning Fork" models. These too have been scanned, filed to PDF and burned. So each one of you, is getting a little bonus Christmas gift from RWG. Hope everyone has Adobe reader... (who hasn't), 'cos you will need it to open these volumes of files. And I really hope you have a bit of spare time on your hands, as there is an absolute mass of info to read and digest in all this stuff. So the following are those to receive CD's. ar0401,toadtorrent,Sherrington, Phaedo, nrg, moppel, coltair, scoobs,Logan, steppen, ziggy, cornerstone, D4Me,klocklind,camiel,and fxRandy. Anyone else who beleives they are owed one, or if anyone wants to make a late charge, please PM me whilst the burner is running hot. Happy Christmas reading all! Offshore PS I'll organise the donation to RWG in the New Year.
  13. vlydog, I just checked one of my GD posts..it's still there for me. Must be some gremlins in the works. Reported to admin. Offshore
  14. I just succesfully bumped a movement i have FS, so the function still works! O/S
  15. It may be caught up in admins upgrade! http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=371215 However if you can see the Bump button, it should fire... sure you pressed hard enough? Offshore
  16. You are right of course V and Ken, the OP has Bump priveledges, the rest of us mere mortals must go...... Bumpity Bump! Works every time, as Ken said. Offshore
  17. @jf, Whilst I share your cynicism of anything that may resemble QC from a "factory", which really precludes any real confidence in the building of a movement, surely this gives genuine ETA assembled movements a distinct edge, as they have been subject to a level of real QC? Also I beleive I would feel a damn sight more secure in knowing my supplier was actually visually inspecting the watch for readily known or sighted defects, timing said item, and auto running it for a given period of time. No, the above will not remove the risk of a fault developing either during shipping, or in the items early life, but it sure as hell must reduce the risks, compared to an item, drop shipped from someones basement, who in reality, is only being paid peanuts compared to the final price we pay! I know which route I would choose, if I ever needed to buy another rep, and it wouldn't be for a drop shipped item, or one fitted with a suspect movement. See my siggy! Offshore
  18. Yep, Some seriously funny sh*t in there! What a blast from the past. And brings back some memories of some who have now moved on.. but good times. Offshore EDIT to add. I see nanug has now resurrected into "real time" That bloody thread has a mind and will of its own! Hope others get a chuckle.
  19. Well, A most instigative, and well put post, from a relative newcomer. (And a well read one I may add) May I play devils advocate here? Are these problems really just now emerging? Or have they always existed, and only now do some of our newer members feel empowered enough to speak out? Are WE collectively NOT doing enough to educate our newer members, in the need to ASK, QUESTION, QUALIFY, what they actually will receive? Are we, as a group, so infatuated with the minutiae of our purchases, that we have let the major deficiencies become almost of no consequence? Is a lower price for an item the most compelling reason to select your provider? And to follow on, What extra cost does one place on an items value, if they know they will receive an item from a seller who has actually handled and inspected the item, and further to this, actually carried out some form of QC? And finally, do our newer members ever really find the time to really absorb all the combined knowledge of these places? Won't elaborate yet... just be interested in others thoughts. Offshore
  20. Please... no Ken.... don't get me started on K1w1/ sheep stories. It would make the shortest thread a mere pup. (or lamb ) Offshore
  21. I don't know if there are differences.... but be very sure the hand hole dia's are the same! O/S
  22. Some time ago, at Ziggys request, all his information was moved to Wiki, and was to be accessible by RWG supporters only. Mainly I understand, to preclude it being distributed willy nilly around the net! (as was evidenced by an attenpt to link it on another forum as late as yesterday) So I suppose the point that was being made is, if one wishes to take something out of the community, one can always also give a little something to it. Bit like access to collectors corner actually! Offshore
  23. robi, You are partly correct. But what we don't need, is to see the extremely high levels of complaint and incompetence we have recently witnessed. Our hobby needs modders who are accountable, know what they are doing, do not misrepresent either their ability or prices, do not draw out unnecessarily deliveries... in short.. we need people who are professional about what they offer. To this end, the admin team here, are currently drawing up a set of guidelines for modders, AND their clients Cos as we've seen too often... it IS a two way street.! A modders section will be established, where they may exhibit examples of their work. They will also be required to publish a list of prices charged for various works. There will also be a section for critiques of work completed. This is all still under review, and being refined, however it will become an integral part of our forum, and hopefully alleviate some of the problems, expressed here of late. We WILL root out all the fly-by-nighters and shonks, those with exagerated opinions of their ability... in short those who want to cook.. better know they can stand the heat... then they may be allowed in to the kitchen. And those who wish to offer less than satisfactory work and practices, are well advised to take their offers elsewhere. Because it won't be accepted here. This forum is, to the best of my understanding, the only one to have thus far banned suppliers of sub standard work and practices. We are here for our hobby, our members, and our enjoyment. And we get little joy in seeing a constant stream of complaints about poor work. A line is being drawn. Offshore
  24. @ ajoesmith, Mate, You are really better of if you brush manually...........................saves on the ongoing cost of purchasing a winder (As long as you brush left handed) Offshore
  25. Email/PM sent to both above. Offshore
