What I have done in the past, is to put a number of cheap quartz watches into a watch box, and declare them, when I leave my home country! Then I have a receipt from my customs that I am travelling with x watches. Once the new watches are obtained, either bin the old junk, or just leave them in the bottom of your suitcase. Put the new watches in the display/carry case, and re declare them on re entry. This concept also helps if you are questioned mid trip, as you have a receipt from your customs saying you departed with x watches! Over a number of trips, I have only ever once been questioned, and it was then on departure... I produced a photo of my watch box with quartz junk in it (not a close up),(explained as an "insurance" photo) and this was accepted, without even viewing the case or contents! Also, if you are entering a country, which has strict/er quarantine laws, and you are asked to declare whether you have been on a farm, or are carrying any "prohibited' items as far as quarantine is concerned, answer "Yes". You will then go under the control of quarantine customs, who are focussed on bits of straw, and dirty boots! Once they have inspected your shoes, or that wood carving from Taiwan/Bali, or wherever, you will get a green pass to freedom. Actually it is amazing that you can have 24 bottles of spirits (undeclared) or 6 cartons of cigarettes, or whatever.... as long as they have scraped your shoes clean, and/or checked the wood carving, you will not be asked to then go thru a second check! Works for me anyway! Offshore

??? Seriously????, Your bank?- the agent for your CC provider, "encouraged" you to go down this path? Please get that in writing, or at least record the conversation.... then.... go for your life! And, hopefully have the financial clout to use the info in court! Maybe the bank & CC provider have just a few more $$ to fight that sort of litigation? Over my life, I have tried on a number of occasions to "take on the big boys" in situations I have seen as "winable" ( But more so "wrong") Have also learned of the fact that no private person has a bottomless cheque book, no matter what the situation. Maybe you should refer to my siggy! Offshore

Toad's Preview - Omega Deville Hour Vision
offshore replied to Toadtorrent's topic in The Omega Area
Can only concur with what has already been said. It is this sort of input from members, which truly shows the quality of information availble here, at our home. Kudos to our toady member for this exceptional effort! Just keeps reinforcing why we "all do our bit!" Offshore -
Had a couple of PM's today from members asking me about watch parts catalogues, and site references. I initially thought of maybe listing a list of my bookmarks, and then remembered we have our Links section.(top tool bar - 12 o'clock) It is underutilised and has not been kept up to date, but I will post some more there now. If anyone has a link to add, just contact one of the admin team. The alternative may be to do a Wiki list of everyones bookmarks.... what does anyone think? offshore

So to wind up this little saga... came Monday.....no announcement, although the scuttlebut is that a deal is close... Came Tuesday... the word must be out, as the takeover targets' shares have jumped to double the Thursday figure, still a long way short of their original $6.65! But still no announcement, or suspension from trading. Will update, if and when anything breaks. And NO, I didn't buy any! Offshore

Spotted whilst surfing. http://www.esslinger.com/index.asp?PageAct...p;Category=1148 Thought this may be valuable, especially for US residents, looking to replace a movement, ( or get some parts!!) Offshore

An interesting array of responses! Obviously, I am not moving forward on this info; is it because I have a conscience? Or is it because I have misgivings as to the nature and quality of the info, and don't want to take the punt? All I know, is that there was a little voice inside, that said clearly, "NO" ! It will certainly be interesting to view the chain of events come Monday, and then I can congratulate myself for either honesty or foresight, or recriminate with myself for failure to act! Offshore

Thanks aligoat, confirms what I thought! FWIW, it went from a $1 opening bid to $2125 in the 1st 6 hours! Offshore

In my "real" job, I pick up snippets of info, regarding company buyouts and the like. Today, I received some info on a company we deal with, who have not been travelling well, and their shares have plummeted. I have it on very good authority, (which I have verified from other areas) , that a multinational, will on Monday announce a takeover. There is no doubt, that with this announcement, the shares in the former company, (which were at $6.65, and have crashed to under $1, due to a perceived inability to finance some loans due, of $72 million)... will inevitably skyrocket, as the buyer is "bucks up" Insider trading? Or just jump in and take the profit? What would you do? Offshore PS. I had 2 hours this afternoon to decide, as it is a public holiday here tomorrow, and the announcement is Monday when the markets open. I would have had to arrange some quick liquidation of assets, or leverage against same! Final decision........take a deep breath....and forever berate myself when the (inevitable) happens. And maybe still feel 'honest"??

This has appeared at an auction, and is in my local town, so it can eventually be verified. I don't claim to have the eye of an expert, but it looks pretty good to me. What say the experts? Description of the item is limited- So what say you Rolliephiles? or BTW, It is opening, with a ridiculously low start! Offshore

Amazingly, I beleive the problem is only with the rep 29.5 die! I have used the others on other Rolex, gen and reps and never experienced a problem.....maybe this is rep manufacturers inbuilt flaws at its finest. Offshore

Maybe PP are now finding some customer service focus, especially when the heat is on ebay over their restriction on using only one cash transfer provider in Oz! The ACCC are not a toothless tiger, and will at the very least put ebay under the microscope over this. Personally I think it is a blatant snub of the competition laws here in Australia....obviously this little market is a test by ebay, and if they get away with it here, they will use that to push into the bigger markets, without regulation. Amazing what transpires when banking rights are granted to non bankers... with NO contols! No wonder Pay Pal sucks! What is that analogy between Dracula, and the keys to the blood bank? Paypal. May be from the same "assembly area" just a different dial supplier! Offshore

You can trust it....AFTER it is pressure tested! Prior to that, you are just taking a punt....no one knows what level of waterproofness (if that's a word) any watch, especially a rep has... until it is verified tested! Cleaning it safely?.....Anything dry Offshore

I well understand that the Geneves' were actually a down market model. However, of late, anything with a 'brand' name, and provable gen, seems to run $500+ I know that, even at my market stall, I can start this at $1k plus, and "take a beating" to somewhere between $500 and $1k. However, I am growing more attached by the moment to it, and will see what I feel like after i have completed the "redial" Could be another for the collection. Offshore
