CBR, It is always a sorry time, when one of our family takes a sabbatical, and you are truly one of "ours" Never forget that the door is always open, and we would even be happy to see your face just every few months. Live your life well my friend, and look after that family of yours. Offshore

Have'nt heard so YET! But when they catch up with him, he will get a few rounds with "Aussie" Joe Bugner, followed by a public lashing with a cat'o'nine tails! And I do believe he will get caught...rotten little prick! Offshore

Whilst not a "watch" catalogue, I'm sure some would like a copy of the Bergeon workshop catlogue. http://www.bergeon.ch/En/ Their large catalogue requires a payment, but the workshop catalogue is a freeby! Offshore

Hi Billy, Will try to answer some of your queries. 1 You don't. You can only go on the sellers reputation. Most here give relatively honest descriptions, however even some of our older members have a problem defining if an ETA is "Swiss" or "Asian" It probably depends on a specific model, so check the reviews on a particular watch in which you have interest. Most sellers/sites, who aren't from these parts, are more than probably "gilding the lily" when it comes to calling a movement.. "Swiss" 2 Our collector here, Eurotimez, has been getting some good reviews...again, read, digest, and come to your own conclusions. 3. There are certainly many members who either carry out their own mods, or in a few cases, offer these services. We always caution newcomers in regards to modding services, as sometimes the offered, and received works have different and varying levels of acceptance to the modder and the client. Be very confident, that the arrangement you are entering in to, is to your satisfaction!! Re the B & R... I will let some of our B & R experts chime in on this one. Hope your stay is enjoyable, you have certainly found the right place to get all the info you need. Offshore

docdoc, I am a bit of a tool "freak", and think your list is close to a starting point. Maybe you need to think about oilers, if you are going to try to service, and also about a method of cleaning and drying parts. I concur with those who talk about quality items.... let the degree of quality reflect the level of useage..ie drivers.. get the best available, especially the blades! Movement and case holders are essential, but you don't need to pony up big $$. Can I suggest you try to slowly build your item needs, rather than rushing off and buying all at once? There are some great pickups from time to time on the 'bay. If you really want to start with a good kit, the TZ one is a reasonable compromise, or you can get some cheaper items with the kit from PMWF, and "flesh" them out as needs be. Originally I grabbed one of the ebay $15.95 kits, and still use a couple of items from it today. I then got the PMWF kit, from which some items have proven useful. For mine, go with the Optivisor concept, I have one, and also a magnifying light, (just can't really get used to loupes) I also recently purchased a stereo microscope, which opens up a whole new world! Be selective, build your kit, and hopefully avoid too many dud purchases. Oh and get a driver sharpener, and use it regularly, ( I inspect and touch up my drivers every other work session) Offshore

Gee, ebay were quick on that one! Maybe the "power" of the rep community is starting to bite Only reported a couple of hours ago, and whoooosh, it's gone! FWIW it was photos of a gen daytona, with Val movement, at A$499, plus $50 freight.....direct from China! The clincher, (without really looking) was -"only 3 available" Offshore

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Rolex-Daytona-Cosmo...1QQcmdZViewItem Here you go guys... Val 72 an 'all! Won't be too much torrid bidding for "3 available" and ex "China" delivery (Sheesh- I can't find a "tongue in cheek" smiley!) Offshore
-
Carefully....and in small bites! You will need to file the threads clean (burr free) to rethread to the crown. Offshore

Spotted these tonite, thought they were a bit pricy, however they may interest someone for display. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Rolex-Vintage-Brass...1QQcmdZViewItem Offshore PS same seller has a Tudor similar.

There was a Japanese rep catalogue floating around a few years back....about the time RWG 1 got started. If my memory serves me, it may well have 1st been discussed at TRC. Someone had a few pages scanned at that time, and they were on one of those boards. May be worth a search......they were definetly reps! Offshore

Won these today. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150288377367&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=005 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150288379087&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=005 Have bought from the seller before, so I will be surprised if not as described. Am particularly excited about the Solvil, as I have the correct stem, AND a signed crown for this! I had already shopped for another stem for the Bulova, prior to bidding. The movement derives from an AS2006, and I found one for $5 with a dealer in the UK. So just dig out a crown to suit and voila, another couple of nice gens to go into the collection. I reckon there are a bunch of bargains like this out there....you just have to perservere, and search every night. Offshore

And welcome, Virtuair. You will find a number of TRC buddies here. Relax and find the pace of this place, and enjoy your time with us. Beleive me, there is a wealth of great info, and some great people here. Offshore

Don't know if anyone followed this, but it goes off in 15 hours. No bids as yet! As I yesterday lashed out for a new stereo microscope, my watch funds are too low to bid for it. So if anyone sees some value, go for it. If you are overseas, and want to use the local registered post option, I would happily onforward for you. Offshore

Well certainly talk to your dealer first, and see what can be resolved. Let us know how it turns out. Offshore

A couple or 3 years ago, I purchased a Mido pressure tester on ebay; didn

CS beat me to it! Never.....ever......whilst anyone who went through that catastrophe still breathes a breath. Sorry...but............NEVER again. Offshore

OK, without knowing which movement this is, further diagnoses not possible. But if you have no watch repair skills, it certainly sounds like a job for a competent repairer. Maybe try ringing a couple in your town, and ask them if they have a problem working on reps? If you can tell them the movement...it may or may not help! Alternatively contact your supplier, and see if he will have it looked at, or recommend someone to do so. Offshore
-
OK, try shaking it gently for more than a few seconds, and see if it runs on longer.
-
Question 1 When you say, you are trying to wind it, is that by shaking it, or by winding it at the stem? Once we know this, stage 2 of the diagnosis can commence Offshore

@slai, Yes, there have been a few interesting offers of late. We have set a number invisible, pending confirmation of various points, and advices from the sellers. When/if we are satisfied with those responses, we will make them visible again. We do however reinforce that the ultimate decision to outlay funds on any purchase, rests with the buyer. An old adage has been, "If you can't afford to loose the $$, don't spend 'em" Offshore

Our "Tommy" just asked me to arrange a trip to NY, so he could, "get together", with his new favourite pin up! I did tell him that she may be a bit young, for an old bloke like him! Dave, great news, I can only hope that Qtip relieves a little of your heartache, and surely will become a much loved member of the family. Offshore

Get yourself a debit card, with a credit card attached, on an account in which you will hold limited $$. (Preferably with your same bankers} Then transfer to that account, what monies you need to use, and PP immediately. Then if you have incoming PP funds, clear them to that account, and then transfer out internally. I know it is a load of work, but unless monitored, I GUARANTEE PP will dip into it. PP is very user friendly, until you need to talk to them. Offshore

Gotta concur with that one! They are about 100,000 times improved! As an "older" watchaholic, I can assure you that from the days of RWCC, which was primarily a discusion board, things are more than a little improved. Thru the days of TRC, to RWG1, and the formation of many others after that, who could ever have foreseen the levels of information which would become available. No more "wink wink" who did you get that from...in PM's! No more... could someone post a shot that we can actually see! These forums, have amassed a huge collection of information, and anyone can, with enough time spent, get most questions answered. They can also read countless top quality reveiws, source quality information on repairs, parts, see some of the best watch photography available on the 'net...or anywhere. They can now also access directly suppliers who are at least held accountable, just because the forum and it's members exist. (Think about it) However, all forums, will go through cyclical levels of interest, quality, membership, and posts. It however has been a great ride so far... hang on to your hats for the next 10 years! Again...gotta agree...they ain't what they used to be. Neither is the old grey mare! Offshore

T, Good to know that the glass is half full! Can tell you that life is not always meant to be easy, (Or so one of our polly's told us!), and I too have been through some of this. It is how you come out the other side that truly matters, and you can be assured that you have here, friends who will support you. Take your time, knowing you have friends who understand. Offshore

Spotted tonite.... who knows where it may finish...but if it's these low numbers, I'd own it in a heartbeat. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Tourneau-by-HEUER-V...1QQcmdZViewItem See where it ends eh? Offshore
