  1. Sheeesh...now we've got kiddies games & electronics spam My friend, we are all deliriously happy, that your purchase went well, however this is a WATCH forum, so please let the electronics nerds know about your success on the correct forum! When you would like to discuss watches, we will be ALL ears. Offshore
  2. Watch out for the "snipers " at the end Nanug Offshore
  3. Found this today in my travels, an invaluable doc for the quartz crew. http://www.produkte24.com/cy/beco-professi...uschwerke-2815/ Even though it is in German it is easily interpreted. (Just noticed there is English as well) The "book" has some neat features. Scroll down with your wheel turns pages, and double click to enlarge/reduce. Offshore
  4. This came in to my wifes "girls" forum today------- Made me smile anyway! Offshore
  5. Mark, I'm guessing a bit here, but most (nearly all) reps come out of China/Taiwan. The Chinese will use "home grown" before they will talk to the Japanese. Maybe they think their mechanical movements are as good as Japanese? Although they do acknowledge the superiority of the Japanese quartz movts; you only have to look at the huge numbers of "better" Chinese (non rep) watches that use and promote the Japanese movts. And in my experience they are spot on, the quality of a lot of Chinese quartz is diabolical. I have seen hundreds of Chinese quartz movts, which have failed before they even reach the consumer, but then again when the complete watch is selling for under $1, what can you expect... we pay more than that (locally) for batteries! Maybe the thinking for mechanicals, is that the cheaper versions get Chinese, and the dearer ones get "Swiss". And now that ETA have factories throughout SE Asia, the definition of "Swiss" movts, becomes more muddied. I personally think, (with no justification) that the ongoing debate about ETA movts, is probably more due to the location of the factory, that a particular movt originated, than the concept of the Chinese copying ETA movts. Could be very wrong here, but I really think the "ETA" movts we are seeing, do originate in ETA factories, however it does draw a long straw in referring to them as "Swiss" Simply put, these are Asian ETA movts. Just my 0.02c worth. Offshore
  6. And quartz movements have no "soul" O/S
  7. Yep! Ya get that on the big jobs Offshore
  8. And people wonder why we question posts such as this, especially when it is a 1st post. Now where is that "shill" smilie? Offshore
  9. TeeJay, Try pulling the crown in and out, at the same time closely looking at the movement. See if you can see anything moving. I see a small cut away area on your 1st photo, at about 10 o'clock, and suspect you may find a small lever, with a depression in it somewhere there. (although that could be for the pusher) Wherever you can find something moving, you will likely find the release! If you can tell me the movement make/model, I can look at one and see if I can spot your solution. (I will have one here!) Offshore
  10. Well there's one Oz left in the sunshine state, with maybe 20 (early) reps, who may be persuaded to move one or more on. Think there is a Masterpiece, Cartier, couple of Omega fantasies, in the "quality"box, and a plethora of Tags, Rx and the like, in the "bargain basement", Canal St box! (Actually just checked & there's even a Movado Museum and a really early Pam ( which needs to go in the Canal St box!) Offshore
  11. @RobbieG, "Your wish is my command"- Moved! Actually I didn't think it was one bit funny, so I was about to chastise your choice anyway I'm guessing the US govt will finally take some shares in the "Big 3", as they can't afford to loose the employment market they offer. However it is well proven that organisations run by committee, rarely succeed, and the US Govt is the best committee organiser in the world! They will still be debating what pressure to put in the tires, when the hover vehicle launches! Offshore
  12. Have to agree with the above 2 posters, there are some things you won't initially need, yet some essentials not there. You WILL need a bracelet tool, but don't get one of the blue ebay ones, the push pins bend. The small black style, which is part of this kit- http://www.pmwf.com/Watches/WATCHSALES03/W...lStarterKit.htm is most useful. I bought this kit a few years back and never regretted it. These drivers http://www.pmwf.com/Watches/WATCHSALES04/W...ewDriverKit.htm also from PMWF, are a great deal IMHO. They give you some quality to start with, and as you build your kit, you can put them into your travel kit, knowing you have quality items. Have a look thu the PMWF offers, he has good stuff at realistic prices http://www.pmwf.com/Watches/WATCHSALES/Wat...sSalesTable.htm And whilst you are there the watch school is full of great info for the aspiring repairer- http://www.pmwf.com/Watches/Watches.htm#WatchSchool Finally, I have no affiliation with PMWF, I have just found some great info and good tools at realistic prices over the years. It is probably not a good idea to discuss replica watches there however, I found very early on that we are lepers in that society! Offshore
  13. @genrep, If this thread has reference to Dr Tub's thread re a PP dispute- http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=575469 I think you are WAY out of line. On one hand you acknowledge that the loss has come from a potential mail theft, and then you transfer the loss to the seller, by lodging a PP dispute! If this is not the case, and I am reading things wrongly here, my apologies. We as a community, acknowledge that PP disputes in the long term do no one any good. They are seen as a weapon of last choice in recovering goods. In this case, it would appear that you have had a watch stolen, and without even entering into discussions with the seller, have just lodged a dispute to reclaim your funds. Surely a discussion with the seller, and attempts to reach an amicable conclusion, are better methods to treat happenings such as these? So, IMHO, you sir, are way,way out of line! You haven't even had the decency to reply to Dr Tub, in his thread, even though you have been alerted to it! Sorry, but this is not the way we try to conduct business in our hobby, here at RWG! Offshore
  14. If you have any problems finding a second hand, give me a yell. I picked up a collectors lot of PW last week (over 200!) plus spare hands (thousand +), dials, cases, boxes of gears and wheels, etc etc. Should be something in there to suit. See if you can identify (measure) the size hand aperture required, and length of the hand. As I also got a similar lot of wristwatches in the same purchase, I will part off the PW stuff over the coming weeks, so I can concentrate on the ww! I reckon I have 6months work on the wristwatches alone. Offshore
  15. @iwfy, Indeed, thanks. What you have found, and will continue to find, is the very reason we have built this little home. And rest assured, the vets, with the help of our newer members, will continue to grow this great database of knowledge, of all things horological. Without you, and your counterparts, this place would wither and die on the vine, so it is beholdent on all who spend time here, to add your input, to enlarge our collective knowledge. Welcome to our community. Offshore
  16. Silly bastard...he's lucky those few love scratches were all he ended up with! That's about as smart as burleying up a group of Great Whites, then sticking your toe in the water, to check the temperature! Offshore
  17. Agreed, all the other Chinese dies (dyes?sp?) line up OK, It is only the 29.5 (most used) that is s**t! So explore the cost of the 1 x 29.5, and a Chinese rep set, vs a gen Bergeon set. Offshore
  18. I believe we will see drops in gen prices, and "marketing" deals on reps! Sooner than later, the rep manufacturers, are going to try to clear some excess inventory, and we will see deals for multiple quantities. This is already evident in ebay wholesale"bulk" sales, that area is being taken over by China based sellers..... where they were selling 100 @ a time, now they will sell 5 or 10! I see this as well in my "other" life, purchasing bulk goods from China. We can't yet negotiate price too much, but trading terms....quantity....settlement.....smaller volumes....are certainly now available and evident. However the single biggest area for better pricing, will be to follow the various exchange rates, and buy in the "off market" areas. There are already sellers in other countries, who have inventory purchased at favourable rates, who will let it go, even though replacement is higher. Last week, I was even able to push a Chinese seller, to deal in A$, as akin to the standard U$, and I picked up about 4% on a specific deal, (which I had to do) So check other countries offerings, do your sums...both on exchange rate, and quantity if applicable.... and the real bargains will become evident. Just my A$0.02c (now worth considerably less ) as usual. Offshore
  19. As a side note, an aquaintence who owns a couple of Rolex, has just returned from Singapore/HK. He tells me the used watch sellers, have literally drawers full of used Rolex and other high end stuff, recently sold to them. The statement was that "many bankers and businessmen are unloading their toys, and the current values were 20% of what they were 6 months ago" Don't know how much creedence can be placed in this doom and gloom statement, but that was relayed to me last weekend. This guy is an Indian softgoods trader, who is suffering hugely with the downturn, so it probably made him feel a bit better. Offshore
  20. Yep! Don't bother,if you need to ask any question. If you know exactly what p/n you want, you may get by, otherwise try Jules Borel or Cousins UK. There are quite a few others around, but these 2 have a larger selection, and are helpful in trying to establish exactly the correct part you need. Offshore
  21. Just check that there are not 2 batteries in there- 1 under the other. It was quite common in that era, especially for watches with lights in them! Offshore
  22. It is a discontinued movement- You will get a bit of info here- http://service.seiko.com.au/pls/seiko/f?p=...1994:Go:NO:RP:: (please don't ask how i access that area of Seikos site!! ) Offshore
  23. But the other 770 will get a watch by Christmas.....just don't know which Christmas Offshore
