  1. Yep, that's what I said
  2. Actually I heard he opened a brothel....not doing so well either....he's eating all the profits Offshore
  3. Nah, Tassie is just the little island down south, which just floats around of it's own accord. The worry is if New Zealand tagged along, although there's not much point, as most of its population is already on the "mainland" enjoying the superior unemployment benefits That however is not THE pub crawl of all time... you guys should see what happens when KB, Cornerstone, and yours truly have a little GTG! Basically the stocks in the breweries are guaranteed a 10% increase when the GTG is announced. In fact CS and I had a quiet arvo session last year, which caused a 12% stock increase the following day Offshore
  4. You can buy 'dial dots" to attach a face to a movement. However I use a few very small (minute) dobs of silicone, making sure the silicone won't "flow" to anywhere on the movement, that could create a problem. One of my watchmaker teachers told me of this "trick" and commented that the silicone was an ideal medium as it allowed a little movement for "shock resistance'. One thing I have found, is to give the adhesion plenty of time to dry and set; if you start trying to continue with the job too quickly, you will find yourself redoing it all, and having to clean up your previous mess. Give it 24hours.... and don't touch the bloody thing during that time!! Offshore
  5. (moved from the "watch" thread} Does anyone remember him in "Cool Hand Luke"....probably my fave flick of all time. The opening scene, where he has drunkenly gone down a street with a pipe cutter, systematically "decapitating" parking meters...Classic! And both the egg eating scene, and the jailers statement, "What we got here, is.... failure to communicate" That was a movie of my late teen/early 20's years, and he and Steve Mc Queen epitomised the hero status given to the "racing" silver screen legends they were. If anyone has not ever seen "Cool Hand Luke", get yourself a copy , or a renter, and watch it a couple or 3 times. I remember going to the "drive in" at least 3 or 4 times, (with various current girlfriend/s) to watch this all time classic. It is soooo 1960's, the times, the thinking....but above all else, it showcases the amazing abilities of a great actor. RIP Paul Newman. Offshore
  6. Agreed. I would also point out our Rule #7! Seems like we just don't read 'em, (or follow 'em.) There is a "holiday" coming up, for the next (and subsequent) poster/s! Offshore
  7. Whilst Rule 6, only covers politics and religion..........Watch this space! Guys, let's get back on topic... it would be a pity to see this most important thread closed, due to all this OT crap! Racist and inflammatory input has no place on this forum, we are here to discuss things horological.... so let's do just that. Now, has anyone any decent input, as to what can be done about this situation? Admin are chasing up a few leads.... your POSITIVE input may offer some solutions. Offshore
  8. Thanks for bringing this here. I'm sure our people will find it most informative. All info such as this is exactly what our home is about. Offshore
  9. Great post Thanks for the time and research. It's this sort of info, which just keeps us consistently at that next level. Offshore
  10. About 3 weeks back, I posted here seeking an assist in obtaining a couple of hard to get stems. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=82453&hl= Within a couple of hours I had a response from drhydro who graciously offered the assist needed. Today in the mail, said stems arrived, and are currently undergoing installation. Gee, isn
  11. Hey, Before you go throwing another movement in there, have you checked the battery? Contacts clean? These things tend to run, or not to run, so it may be the battery is getting towards the end of its useful life. See if you can spot it stopped, and restarting, this is a more normal course of events. Then maybe get a watchsmith with a timer to check its beat. If finally you find that a new "heart" is the only option, check a few of the bigger dealers, Cousins, Borel, Frei, etc. Prices of these thing vary widely, so some judicious shopping may save a bucket. (I can guarantee that the wholesale price for a movt out of HK is well under U$20, and closer to U$10 in bulk) And give me a yell if you can't find any more helpful info. Offshore
  12. Welcome aboard replicarl! Seems like you've already been bitten by the bug. Enjoy your time here, and use that search button, there is a mine of info here. Another new member recently commented that he found the LINKS button useful as well...I'm glad about that as we have put in a lot of work in that area. You will find most of your questions have already been answered here, so search away. Offshore
  13. Well done Andy, It is not the 5k that is so special, it's the fact that through those 5000, quality has always shone through. Looking forward to the next 5K. Offshore
  14. Ken, From our family -to yours, my sincere condolences. Alan
  15. Nicke, I really don't comprehend what this is all about! However, there is no use offering anyone here 50/50, as this will not get you a dealers slot! The way to go, is to PM the Admin of this forum and ask! Then the application is reviewed by the WHOLE team, and a decision reached. So if you have issues...THOSE are the rules! Offshore
  16. As all others have said.....AWESOME REVIEW! Thanks tt, This sort of input is what makes this place so special. Offshore
  17. I doubt you would receive anything from that website. We do not want to promote scam websites here, so I have deleted the link. We are having an amazing number of new members post these bogus links of late , so would ask that further queries do NOT include a link to the web site. Thanks Offshore
  18. @cablesurgesg I have taken the liberty of editing the url as we don't wish to link to scam sites, and that definetly is one! Offshore
  19. Hope you had a good one guys! Happy birthday. Offshore
  20. PM sent, However that link is to a DG3836 which is a Chinese auto, not quartz. Subsequently I see Ofrei has it for U$17.80. (A better option than mine!) Might work, check the dial spacings, and depends on case/pushers being used. Offshore
  21. KB, My dear friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you through this most difficult time. Having met your Mum, this is just shattering news. As others have said, say strong mate, and give me a yell if I can help in any way. Our love and our thoughts are with you. A, Cath, and "family" Offshore
  22. No, An OS20 would put the stem in the wrong position! And pushers would not line up either. (They are A$36.20 wholesale here in Oz BTW) Can't see anything in the Miyota range that would work. Maybe ETA? Offshore PS Had a quick look at ETA, doesn't appear like anything there has a chance either.
