  1. If you goto Bangkok/Thailand, MBK is the best shopping centre for vintage rollies. IF you are after gen (new or second hand), Hong Kong would be the place (no sales tax or GST).
  2. Hike.. why would you do that??? i wouldn't be able to sleep if i were u.. now don't beat yourself up too hard..
  3. Enjoy.. http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/node/39094
  4. Interesting.. i would have thought that the window platform would cost more for the manufacturer to build than the symbian platform...
  5. Funny you mentioned that. I also signed up for my first brazilian Jitjusu class.....in about one hour time, i will be practising this my sweaty hands are still shaking as I am packing my tee shirts in my gym bag
  6. nice! i wish they have made a good rep of this or at least give me some good base to mod. saw this in person, love at first glance.
  7. The The Zigmeister's lume on the dial is really better than the gen
  8. Certainly there are alot more dealers than the ones advertised in the forum. Most are solo, Sole Proprietors, and with good watchmakers skill.
  9. did some quick works on my MBK 1665... the belly botton looks more convincing now, at least I hope. not as good as the modders in here......at least i tried
  10. Not sure about the rep world but, there is a huge impact to the gen world. Last year, if you've walked into Panerai to ask for 111 or other base model to try it on. They would just tell you politely to leave your name on their list. You asked for a quote and would have to wait for 8-10 months & the price would be different when they called u (they raise their prices every 6 months). Two weeks ago, i walked into Panerai AD and asked for some base models to try them on. They immediately pulled out a 111, and offered me to try some other base models. I was thinking if i wait a few more months, i will pick up some really nice pieces in the second hand market. in the 2nd hand market, the price for a PAm 005 has already dropped. It is now back to the consumer maket. Cash is king.

Dosanim - thanks, I didn't have time to visit Chu Chi Tunnel, but did visit Hanoi Hilton Prison. DVN- i had a good time in Hanoi, but I tend to stay away from seafoods when I travel. thanks everyone for their comments. If you are interested in vintage or military rep, Vietnam is the place.
  12. beautiful watch you got there chef.. Tudor has a beautiful, solid, stubtle look. since you mentioned, i was snipping on a Bezel for my franken 16520 project few months ago. Just up until teh very last minute, I realised it is the tudor '500' bezel. i informed the seller, the seller refused to change from "Rolex Daytona Bezel" to Tudor.. in the pic, he even put a Rolex cloth under the bezel... but anyway few weeks after, i see this seller relisted his bezel again on ebay as Rolex daytona bezel.. talk abt false advertiment
  13. if it is just 50-80 dollar difference, stick with the trusted dealer. that's just my view.
  14. ebay has been my trading platform for many years.. so here is my 2 cents As soon as your paypal account is frozen, my advice is to provide everything they need and afer that keep emailing them everyday to follwo up (email them in customer services quoting the case number). Scan those requested documents (keep a copy in your harddisk) and send them via Paypal website. do not fax the documents. They will say that they didn't receive anything from you despite the fact that you have received their confirmation in paypal. Just a couple of months ago, they froze around $4.8k in my paypal acc. I was stuck. The ebay buyer on the other hand keeps threatening to open a dispute case saying that i have received their payment but not shipping out the watch. I just keep calling the buyer in Italy every night comfort him - look I have 800+ transcations and 99% postive feedbacks. so, I also sweetened the deal by offering him service by my local watchamker and a leather strap. I also sent the box and paper by DHL in advance. At the end, it all works out but me, as a customer still lose. You lose the trust with your vendor, the oppounity cost of having the money and invest in something else. but anyway hope everything will turn out good for you.

Ben Thanh market (or also known as Saigon Market) The shops carry the chinese reps e.g. Pam, Rolex, Frank muller, basically what we see in cartel. interestingly, they can also show you their better pieces (around 300-400$) when asked. They claim that the better ones have Rado movement

Minh Quy 103 Dong Khoi Ward Ben Nghe Dist 1 Everyone has heard or mentioned about the great Minh Quy... They have a small selection of vintage rolexes.. you will have to talk to them first and build some relationship before asking for parts. otherwise they will just tell you they sell all real rolex left by ar-maria-cun so-chers. I found that most of the things I want (ie 1655 + case dial hands, 1680) they can somehow source them or pick up the next day.. case set cost around 450-650 depending on the model.. (I was lucky to have a local friend who can translate for me and do most of the talking)...

Vietnam is a place I alwyas think about visiting - just recently i had the oppoutinty of visiting Vietnam for the first time..Some of the pics in vietnam were borrowed to make this thread more interesting, but they are relevant to our hobby. City of Bicycle... Coffee filter at US$1 the better (franken) vintage timepieces e.g. Rolex are located in District 1 Just like geninue watches, anything with 'Rolex' will demand a high price tag... I think all of you know, just to make sure we are clear - these are franken not geninue... but they will tell you they are geninue Rolex left by the american army they will also show you pages of the japanese magazines to make you believe they are the real deal most Rolex franken watches I see they ask for 2-3.5K whereas for Bich Lien has some interesting pieces (Blancpain Fifty Phantom, Omega S300, Jaeger Le Coultre, Vintage militay omega range from $250-$450)
