  1. What are you looking at getting and what is the price?
  2. Yeah, the $900 ones were probably just the plain Superocean, not the Steelfish. My mistake. They come in yellow and orange. The blue Steelfishes have gone for $1100.
  3. The gen steelfish on TZ even go for as little as $900 in the less popular colours.
  4. If you're a veterinarian, I'd say go check some cows' rears for a ticking sound
  5. It'll be interesting to see this go from internet to mainstream media - the photographer will make a few bob no question. That photo is stunning. Motorola are going to wet themselves.
  6. Many gen brands are moving to Sellita - Oris for example. Sellita has traditionally finished ETA movements (and I think the movement in Puggy's link is probably one of these), but the SW200 is their own knock-off (citing that many of ETA's patents have expired). I've read that it has 26 jewels, rather than the 2824's 25. Parts will be no problem - these are going to be major mainstream movements. They even have a 7750 knock-off in the works...
  7. Just google ofrei and cousinsuk , the sites should come up. ofrei are widely regarded as asses to deal with.
  8. Interesting to see the follow-up to that story - cheers!
  9. What kind of food are you serving?
  10. Definitely my preferred man/woman of choice for the FA Jones:
  11. Hahahahaha!!!! The "Clownmaster"! I had totally missed that thread, classic. I think the first rep of it is already out - this was being sold by "The Watch King" on ebay @cableguy - I was on there looking for catalogues too for photo backgrounds. They call it "doing a dadog"!
  12. Well, yes, they are counterfeit watches - massively less expensive than the genuine articles, so to think they are manufactured to the same standards is folly. For scuba diving, many owners of gen watches would in fact wear a Seiko Monster or equivalent, or a backup dive computer. Rolexes are expensive things to scratch or bust while you're lugging around tanks. The good news is that the PO's can be made very water resistant, but I wouldn't trust a collector to do this for you, because you want to see the test results with your own eyes. There are a few things that need to be done, like gluing down the He valve. Besides, are you actually planning on diving deeper than 50m? Most recreational scuba divers don't go deeper than 30m.
  13. Some Swiss brands used to manufacture watches in South America (and for that matter the US). That may be the source of some of the vintage watches on ebay - they have the brand pedigree, and are genuine, but they never saw the Alps. Girard-Perregaux is such a brand (Argentina). These kinds of watches could possibly be the sources for vintage franken parts too.
  14. Yeah, that sounds like Paul all right! It will have been Silix I think - that's the description on their site. They sell the Broad Arrow right underneath this one.
  15. The so-called 'clone' movement in the 'lite' is in no way a copy of the ETA, that is well-established I think. It's totally different. I'm of the understanding that the watch under discussion was purchased as an ETA proper.
  16. Wow - looks like Rolex are really pushing their new fugly baby on the website: Anyone else find the site annoying? Everything seems to be a slow-arsed flash animation....try looking for an AD and see how long it takes for it show you spinning globes (yes, I get it, we live on planet earth, very impressive), etc., etc., ...
  17. It might be easier just to stick to the topic of the watch at hand rather covering the entire gamut of movements. It's either an ETA movement or it isn't. If the watchsmith isn't someone on the boards, the odds are that it's them that are wrong - it has happened plenty of times before.
  18. For greater reliability go for a non-chrono ETA, or even an Asian 21J. You would have no problem pulling off a 42.5mm Planet Ocean, even with small wrists (same size as the Chronomat Evo anyway). There are plenty of wrist shots on the forum. The Breitling SFSO might be a decent non-chrono alternative to Chronomat Evo. Best of luck
  19. Who was the collector? And is the watchmaker someone on the rep boards? If they're not, sometimes they don't really know too much about the in's and out's of ETA movements (they may be wrong).
  20. Dealextreme.com is one place. Hey, for six bucks it might be a few minutes of entertainment. Go to the pub, change the channel on the big screen. As stocking fillers go, you can't complain.
  21. Welcome! That IWC with A/R is an absolute stunner
