  1. i love the blue dial version of that watch! but that is just... hideous. they could have at least used 21st century digicam
  2. i had a 656, which i sold to fund a gen SMP (then sold that to fund my Seiko Marine Master...) and i still miss it about the perfect flieger watch! and sooooooooooooo easy to rep. the U2's are awesome too. much nicer in person than even in the pictures
  3. i know that, at least with my vintage seiko column wheel chrono's, the watchmaker who restored them said it made no difference. and that if there was a tiny difference it was actually better to let them run. from what i remember he said the chrono function is actually running all the time and the buttons just engage and disengage the hands using some sort of 'clutch'. so letting them run results in less wear on that mechanism. made sense to me
  4. i'm in thanks for setting this up!
  5. dang, you guys have me missing mine now actually there are 'fake' monsters. they pop up very rarely on ebay and pics show up occasionally on the seiko forum the dial and bezels are just wrong in a number of ways and they are reputed to use a very very cheap chinese movement. there is also a blue monster in a hideous light blue and there is a yellow monster. a limited edition of 500 or so for a thai seiko collectors club. which i stupidly passed on thinking $450US just to get a sapphire crystal and a yellow dial was absurd. the last one i saw sell went for $1200US... i've had 5-6. some stock, a couple beadblasted by jack at IWW. one with the special bill yao 'usual suspects network toxic green' custom dial and hand set. but my favorites were the two tones and you just have to love that bracelet! one of the best ever and about 100 times as nice as the bracelet on a genuine rolex sub

    Tattoos

i never really had any desire to get a tattoo. being very involved in the local music and art scene i have lots of friends with LOTS of ink. some who think "it's tuesday!" is a good excuse for a new tattoo then last summer while going thru a lot of changes in my life i was sitting in a cafe on a lovely morning reading p.g. wodehouse and i looked down and 'saw' this on my right forearm? a very strange feeling. so i thought about it for over two months and then made an appointment with a local artist who is a friend, and she had a cancellation the next day (normally she is booked 10-12 months in advance) and i did it. synchronicity this pic was taken about a half hour after it was finished. i have never regretted it for one moment and it serves as a reminder to me every day...
  7. somewhere i have a you tube link with mayer and some rapper, and mayer is showing off his platinum big pilot... now i really hate him
  8. me too! i wonder what that movement is? the finish kind of looks like a generic asian auto?
  9. i have had two of the asian movement versions of that identical watch, and paid $125US each. someone is making some serious euros
  10. i love top gear. but living in the US and not having cable i end up watching it on you tube. i always make an effort to check out the watches and it looks like clarkson and hammond both have decent watch collections. but this scene from a recent episode is the first time i've been able to positively identify one i would recommend watching the whole segment, because it's funny as usual. but right at the 5 minute mark is the best part: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6c6DhBAFXJs
  11. back in my seiko collecting days a forum friend had a very rare 6138 chronograph re-plated by artisan. they removed all the old plating and kept the case lines nice and crisp while polishing out all the scratches and did an amazing job on the new finish but i do remember reading somewhere (i think?) that they would not do replicas? let us know how it goes!
  12. uh folks... the fiddy has 26mm lugs and takes a 26mm strap. AFAIK there is not and never has been a 26mm panerai bracelet. 24mm for the 44mm pams and 22mm for the 40mm. you not only have not seen it but probably never will

  14. i'm guessing he means RWI/the dark side seems completely down. completey
  15. actually i've had three super reps ; two ultimate planet oceans and a chopard mille miglia. the big p.o. is a between watch on me. it needs the bracelet but with a link out it's too tight and with it back in it's too loose. and the chopard was a bit too shiny/flashy
  16. i've been in to reps about three years now, and gens about 5 years before that. i still have one or two of each of the vintage seiko's i love and a couple swiss gens and my rep collection now stands at: Pam 036 old factory swiss Pam 5218-201a swiss from davidsen vintaged by flavr flav Rolex TW best ETA Sub with lots of mods Rolex LV noobmariner Omega black SMP ETA old factory with gen crown/tube/hands/ insert FM Conquistador white swiss eta 2892 Tag Link chrono gray serviced asian 7750 Rolex GMT II ETA w/correct hand stack and gen insert Omega planet ocean swiss eta 4th gen 42.5mm orange about the only one i regret selling was the breitling seawolf avenger. dumb move that but none of the new super reps really make me want to buy? the steelfish is too blingy compared to my seawolf, and all the chronos pretty much leave me cold. and i worry about reliability issues too. i wish the rep makers would stop making everything they can stuff an asian 7750 in and give us some plain watches. since i am primarily a diver guy i would LOVE to see either of these. asian auto or eta clone or eta, i don't really care. and i don't even care if the second crown moves the internal bezel both of these should be 'do able' with cases already being made and could be a lot cheaper than an unreliable chrono! h
  17. rolex... i got into reps because i wanted a pam and never had any interest in a rolex of any sort. now i have a decently modded TW best sub and an LV noobmariner and a good GMT II i actually find that when i can't decide which watch i want to wear in the morning the default has become one of the rolex's. go figure. and yes, if the mythical 1:1 seadweller ever happens i will buy one
  18. here's another (possible) viet nam vet seiko 6105's were a true 150m divers watch and cost about 1/3 the price of a sub at the PX during the viet nam war. a lot were sold to special forces and military divers because they were affordable. the watch martin sheen wears in 'apocalypse now' is a seiko 6105 diver on the original waffle rubber strap. since this particular one was manufactured in april of 1970 it's certainly possible it could have seen some action.
  19. funny how the fan page completely ignores the fact that seiko invented the quartz watch. and that both seiko and citizen have produced very high grade quartz movements (used in The Citizen and Grand Seiko models) that were the most accurate wristwatches ever produced
