  1. Brilliant review! Not generally a brietling fan, but this one is just freaking gorgeous! In all fairness though, we need wristshots on normal 6-7 inch wrists to judge if this would look freakish large for most of us. A goddamned u-boat would probably look dimutive wrapped around even a vein on Lani's forearm!
  2. Thank you Chronus and Sql_pl - I've gained a new appreciation for this fine watch. Never seen an IWC get that kind of female attention. Btw: Maciek, if all your watches get that kind of treatment, I think you can start charging a premium on your used sales. Much better than The Zigmeister or chieftang treatment, if you ask me.
  3. Great initiative!
  4. JLC Reverso - the one with 24 time zones JLC Master Compressor And a JLC skeletonized watch (dont know the name).... Oh, and another 44 Hublot BBs in every obscene color combination possible wouldnt hurt either, I guess...
  5. This would be the first Omega that made my heart beat a little faster. Just gorgeous!
  6. And I'm wondering if this answers the part about the Rolex with the smooth movement: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...amp;hl=sweeping If I understood it correctly, there is no "smooth" automatic watch...and the closest would be the Seiko Spring Drive... ( http://www.seikospringdrive.com/flash.html )
  7. The movement was advertised as having an ETA 2824-2 Its keeping incredible time; I dont have the right equipment to pop the caseback, but since it was from PT, I'm pretty sure it is as advertised. I'm assuming then that its actually 8 ticks per second... The reason I asked this question is because I was looking at a Rolex which seemed to have no ticks at all (ie: perfectly smooth movement). Perhaps Rolex have more fluid movements than ETA (I think Rolex has inhouse movements - could be wrong), or perhaps it was just the poor lighting that made it seem that way...
  8. Guys, I was wondering about this: the sweeping movement on my ingy seems to actually be 5 rapid ticks. Is this correct? Or should it be a ridiculously smooth sweep with no visible ticks (even if you're looking hard for it)? From 3 feet away you cant tell, but anything less than that, you can actually see a slightly jerky movement...wanted to know if thats what the gen looks like too, or is it because the movement isnt up to snuff? Cheers
  9. You know, I agree with the above completely. Perhaps Dubai is just one of those materialistic cesspits, but I purchased a fake bag ONCE, because I loved the way it felt. It had no brand name on the outside (but inside), so there was no trying to pass it off as something else unless someone was rifling through it. Someone checked the inside for some reason, called it a fake, I agreed and told him where I got it from. Before you know it, ALL my stuff (accessories from cartier, mont blanc, givenchy, etc etc) are called fake by all the guys I worked with, and I got the tag of that "fake" guy. While we may purchase luxury goods for our own satisfaction, part of the reason you pay $800 for a Mont Blanc which writes worse than a $3 Bic pen is for the brand and the feeling that you've "arrived". Doesnt work too well if you would command more respect with the $3 item! So if ya ask me, I really wouldnt mention owning a fake to anyone for fear of becoming "that guy".
  10. Am I the only one who thinks the rep looks better than the gen? The carbon fibre dial is something else!
  11. Yeah, I see where you're coming from, and why it's a bad idea to go into watch stores with my new baby on my wrist. it would actually have been really bad if I was called out yesterday since I was there with a girl....not that I need to worry about dates anymore, clearly....
  12. I wrote it on the promotional mailing subscription that he asked me to fill out... :-S Great. Other people get MILFs working at Zales from their rep follies; I get a man with a freaking mustache...thanks a lot RWG!!
  13. Doesnt rule 25 require intent to deceive the AD or telling them its real? The guy wasnt an IWC dealer (I went in to buy leather goods; it just happens that this store also deals with watches), and after the comment I just said "thank you" and said nothing more about it...certainly didnt try to see if I could fool him or anything.... However, if this does breach rule 25, mods please feel free to delete.
  14. So I go to this store yesterday to buy some accessories. This store is the authorized dealer for Mont Blanc, Glasshutte Original, Blanc Pain, and Omega amongst others (ie: they know watches). At some point, the salesperson I'm speaking to stops with his pitch, looks at my wrist and says in a thick Indian accent: "Sir, your watch is beautiful and it is very sexy." (which actually almost made me laugh, since I cant think of too many instances where a mustachioed man stopped and called something on my wrist "sexy") Now while this wasnt the AD for IWC, its still a testament to the quality of this rep that even people who see gorgeous watches day-in-day-out stop a well rehearsed pitch to comment on it (or see it as good enough to praise my taste in hopes of endearing themselves to me and making a sale). Alternatively, he saw it was a fake and was subtly calling me out. Doubt it though, since he wasnt close enough to see the datefont or the error on the caseback.
  15. Noob opinion: get the split. 1. The split is likely to call for more attention, so a gen would be a good idea 2. There are decent slevin reps out there - so the 95% of happiness at 10% of the price argument kicks in. 3. No split reps (that I know of), so if you like it, the gen is your only option. 4. Most importantly, your post shows a clear preference towards the split anyway!
  16. Just an opinion - replica shoes aint worth it. They do tend to look fake, and if you're willing to wait till sale seasons, you can get kenneth coles / cole haans for very reasonable prices. Alternatively, hit up ebay for well maintained used shoes. Just my $0.02
  17. Dani, I have got to know where you got that JLC from? That thing is gorgeous! (it is a rep Master Compressor, right?)
  18. And I can take you to Karama (a district here) to see some of the most godawful "Staomess" Steel replicas (no kidding - on closer examination, thats what the Tag I bought was apparently made of) known to man. Or get to hear the pushy saleperson insist that Glashutte is pronounced "Glass Sh**ter". Probably not a good shopping excursion, but the comedy value may be priceless.
  19. Gah! And now someone threw the Vacheron Constantin Overseas in my face. Both have a genta design. The Ingy is more butch, but the VCO seems to be straddling that line between classy and masculine. Dammit! I've read some reviews on the VCO - it has errors, but most people wouldnt even know the spelling of Constantin, let alone what the design SHOULD be. I hear mixed reviews about the VCO though - Everyone believes it to be beautiful, but a lot seem to think it lacks presence. And of course the bracelet adjustment problem on it would make it aggravating. The Ingy, on the other hand, "feels" like the gen, but has a gamey clasp... Just when I thought I had it figured out...
  20. My answer was driven partially by another post I once read that said those numerals were never used on a gen JLC. Clearly, I stand corrected. Btw, your rep came with that strap? If you dont mind me asking, who's the dealer you go to? That seems like some pretty good attention to detail there.
  21. Lol. Lucifer might have to drag me kicking and screaming for a PAM...also, I'm afraid that they might be as addictive as people make them out to be, and I might be caught selling furniture to get my latest fix... Brietling does have some interesting watches - I did look at the Blackbird (i think thats the name...) long and hard... Freddy, I'm liking the two watches you mentioned, but the JLC is using a fantasy dial (I believe, as I've never seen those numerals on JLCs); the patek is something that is giving me food for thought though...I'm a huge fan of simplicity.. The Vacheron Constantin...love it. Absolutely love it. The only reason I'm not getting it is because I dont know enough about the movement and its reliability, and I hear that it has more fixes needed than the Ingy. I'm assuming theres a good reason that the guys here opt for the Ingy - or is it just familiarity? Btw: I appreciate the feedback and advice from all of you. Makes a newbie's life MUCH easier...
  22. With the GST, as you pointed out, I was worried about the movement, esp since the ones I've seen are chronographs. For my first one, I didnt want anything that would crap out on me in a short period of time (Ive read some asian movements last for a few months), as that would dull my enthusiasm. As far as I know though, Lello datewheels are hard to come by, so a DW swap seems unlikely for a while, and the lume and AR on this watch are supposed to be pretty good. Part of the reason I like this is because its so close to the gen right out of the box... I'm already getting early symptoms of the IWC virus btw - I've had odd dreams about the Aquatimer...
  23. Considered the 3717, but realized the IWC was much more versatile and was a watch that screams understatement - contradiction in terms, but it seems like such an apt description. Still a fan of the 3717 though - might be a purchase down the line...although I'm just waiting for the day they make a reliable Portuguese...
  24. The topic says it all...should the Ingy be my first? Classy, understated, accurate, reliable mechanism - all words you could use for the gen. According to what I hear, save for some crappy datewheels, you can apply this to the rep as well. The other IWCs that I'm passionate about include the Portuguese regulatuer. automatic, and chromo-automatict, the reps of which I hear are terrible. In some cases, there were cosmetic errors, and in most cases the movement that was provided was faulty and failed 70% of the time! Is that true, or was there something I missed while reading through the pages?
