  1. Thanks guys - JKay, any particular ones you could recommend? Pug, checking out reviews of the LX5 now! Someone else said to wait a few days for the G12. So need to do some reading on that, but a little worried about an untested cam - although I doubt they face the same issues as our reps.
  2. I'm contemplating buying a new camera, since the shitty one on my blackberry is....well...shitty. The things that I photograph most often are buildings or landscapes. I've tried to take a few shots of my watches, but the BB doesnt seem to like macro much either. Thing is that I want something relatively easy to use - photography is fun for me, but I doubt it'll be a passion, so I'd like to limit the uphill climb while still getting good shots. Also I'd prefer something that I could chuck into a messenger bag - the shots that I like invariably "just happen", and lugging around a full DSLR with lenses isnt gonna happen. My friends have recommended the Canon G11, the digital rebel, and the Nikon D5000. Any opinions from the photographers around here as to what would make for a good camera given the issues I consider important: 1. Ability to take macro, and landscape (buildings) shots 2. Small - more powerful than point and shoot, but not bulky 3. Easy enough to use that things wont turn into a chore. Thanks all!
  3. Those are insane straps! Any idea on pricing?
  4. While I know that in a pic with 3 things, I should probably be focusing on Heidi Klum or the Pam, does anyone else think that seal looks like he's been decaying for the past couple of days in that car? Seriously, go to the Egyptian exhibit in the London Museum - there are mummies that look better preserved than this dude!
  5. Run a search for DSSD in the rolex section - there have been quite a few discussions on this very recently. Should answer most of your questions
  6. G'luck buddy - been asking that same question for ages, and the truth is there are no perfect reps for this yet. You need to figure out what flaws you're ok with, and what your budget is, and take it from there.
  7. OSrep - thats some crazy AR! Looking great. I'm slowly coming around to HBBs(just not the Kings...)
  8. Talk about resurrecting a post from the dead, but boy was Pug wrong! If anything, there are now more models of the Hublot than there are people available to wear it, and prices remain high. Although the big bang king is just hideous.
  9. Congrats on a gorgeous dssd!
  10. Although the first 10 tick error seems to exist in every recent dssd version unfortunately - I don't think it's a noob specific error.
  11. Another tell (which is present in every DSSD being sold by the dealers) is the thickness of the first 10 ticks on your bezel. In the gen, they're thicker than any of our reps. Hows the shine of the steel btw? Simply gorgeous DSSD though.
  12. Does anyone know whether BK's/noob steel is as good as the "cartel" steel? Seems a little more grey (lanikai's review has really made me away of the difference in color between the older steel and the newer one)
  13. Ps: I should have said this in my prior post, but gorgeous pics and a beautiful watch. In real life, its unlikely anyone will notice the slight date misalignment from 19 onwards, and as you pointed out the pearl isnt flat. Seems like a great specimen of the DSSD in general. Which dealer is Mary btw (couldnt find the name on the dealers section)? And would you mind disclosing the price?
  14. Not a rollie expert by any means, but your pearl is flat, and your datewheel seems slightly misaligned (the dates are closer to the bottom than the top).
  15. Bravoecho, while i love your pics of the DSSD, does the thicker OGEV and RLS text bother you much? When I look at trevors pics (and even yours), the thickness is noticeable. Does it look thinner in person, or are the pics a pretty accurate representation? Also, how noticeable is the flatter pearl in person? I agree with you on the datewheel, etc - I'm strongly considering trevors watch based on your rec, but the OGEV flaw seems like an easy tell given the size and prominence.
  16. I hear good things about trevors (which i'm contemplating buying), which is much cheaper than BK's. That having been said, I'm not an expert - perhaps one of the more established members can point out flaws that trevor's dssd has?
  17. Hi Freddie/member x - yeah, that's exactly what I mean. The hands don't move for a long while after the watch is in motion. I've had it serviced twice (albeit by the same guy). Maybe a new watch smith is in order...now to find one who won't take my panerai and flip the crown guard upside down because 'it looks nicer like this, no?'...
  18. That watch is simultaneously the ugliest and most fetching one I've seen in a while. Never been an Omega fun, but this looks like something I'd love on my wrist! Congrats on a great catch
  19. So I live in the UAE, and most sellers are EU/US based. I'm wondering how big an issue customs REALLY are. Since I want to get heavily modded watches (this place is crawling with gens), I'd be laying down some decent cash for them. I'd love to hear other peoples experiences shipping to/receiving in the UAE. Thanks
  20. So I have a watch I'm absolutely in love with in terms of looks but, as is the case with most pretty things, its a little slow on the uptake. Bought it from a member, and its had this problem since day 1. Its an automatic, and takes forever to get "charged". I've sent it for servicing, lubing etc, and it keeps time brilliantly, but it still takes about 45-60 minutes before it decides its ready to go. Does this mean I have a ticking timebomb on my hands (none of the puns were intended)? Is there a fix? Or is this normal, and the watch will keep on going for years despite this little flaw. Thanks
  21. You know, been looking at the 2nd hand market in Dubai. Some of the stuff they sell there is more expensive than the freaking AD!! I asked about an IWC Portugese - the AD had it for 25k, but was willing to give a 30% discount (ie: ~19k). I went to the pre-owned store, and he offered it for 21.5k and wouldnt budge... Even the rollies, the discount on the newer models is basically $100-200; simply not enough when you consider you're getting a 2nd hand piece (and we know people here can be quite abusive with their property). If you know of any honest 2nd hand guys, let me know. Would love to get a gen PAM or Rolex. barring that, any decent rep stores would be fun too
  22. Thank you kenberg, for taking one of the most beautiful experiences available to a group of men and crapping all over it (no, the pun wasnt intended)!
  23. Agreed - not sure whether to find it the hottest thing ever (since there is clearly no conversation <no fart / queef jokes allowed!>), or just flat out messed up (since a woman without boobies just aint worth looking at).
  24. Dont shoot the noob, but I thought panerais had very little AR - some of those tanks on straps seem to be missing the crystal altogether! Is this new for 2009, or a change they've been making?
