  1. hey, I also got a 1680, but from narikaa. When it arrived the crystal was loose, so when I took it apart and pressed it with a lamp clamp. This broke the crystal! I'm ordering a 127 from cousinsuk, but how does it stay in the case? does it just slot into the metal ring? thanks.
  2. So this kid has access to a botnet? I doubt it. Whoever it is, credit must be given to the staff here; rwg is back up already and was within a day I think and rg is still down. Edit: upland thanks for the link, its a good read.
  3. Wearing my vintage omega, bad picture though. Here's a comparison for size;
  4. a few other things i've noticed: the pearl is off. The font used on Oyster Perpetual Date is serif, the gen has no serifs. The CG are too angular and long, and the meet the case too late. I'm going to get some water colour paint, and touch up the markers and hands a bit, shave the CG, and hopefully fade the bezel. And ding up the case and bracelet a bit of course. I don't really intend to spend a load of money on this project, it's just for me really. Maybe if I really like the watch i'll get a better dial somewhere down the line, and a rivet bracelet.
  5. Why don't you buy both and find out? when mine arrives tomorrow I can measure the dial. The feet would surely be off as this is a 21j asian and I'm pretty sure the yukis are for a gen movement.
  6. Who cares what people think? I was wearing a rep daytona and a buddy of mine asked to take a look. He inspects it for like 5 minutes, and says it's a fake. I say yup, it's a fake, give it back. He then changes his mind and decided it was real. The point is, if it is a gen, why do you care if people think it's a rep? Likewise, if its a good rep, and people think it is a rep, why care? The majority of people think any watch with rolex on the dial that isn't ticking is real. It only matters what you think. If you think it's a pos and you walk around suspecting people are suspecting you are wearing a rep, then I do not think reps are for you. As a corollary to this, if you do not get a gen rolex because people will think it's fake anyway, maybe gens are not for you. My last problem with that post is that it confirms what all gen wis guys think; that all people with reps are trying to be something they're not, or portray some lifestyle they do not have in some elaborate con. If I buy this rep or gen rolex, people will think it's fake, an they will see through my deception. And that is why I do not buy a rolex, rep or gen. As far as a gen roles being overpriced, please keep in mind the r and d costs involved in making some of these things, and the considerable fixed costs involved with making watches in a factory, from scratch, with in house movements. Smelting costs, casting costs, labour costs etc. Etc. All make the price high. While this same watch can be recreated on china for a fraction of the price now, the watch and it's design and it's construction had to come from somewhere before The factory in china could copy it. All of these things contribute to the average cost of an 'overpriced' watch. While it is true that there is some degree of ostentatious demand and pricing involved ( I.e. The price being high creates demand from people who buy expensive stuff as a statement or because try can), I am sure a large extent of the price paid for a gen is due to economic factors, of sunk costs of advertising, branding, sponsorship, etc. These fixed costs create a high average cost even though the marginal cost of each additional watch will be relatively small.
  7. Ok thanks. I'm going to pick up some paint today. I'll get a file too.
  8. ok so i put a gen 1680 pic and overlayed it over narkiaa's picture, it looks pretty great to my untrained eye, take a look are the crown guard differences I noticed real or just a result of slightly different angles on the shots?
  9. Hey, does anyone have one of these? the date mag looks a little weak from reg's pics, which # clark would I put in here? Also, does anyone have good tips for aging markers and hands? I was thinking a touch of water colour paint? Is there any way to replicate a chocolate 'tropical' dial? thanks for reading, -us edit: of course i will post pics when it arrives on friday (hopefully)
  10. I love these stretched bracelets!
  11. zenith chronomaster, JLC Master Compressor- obviously not a suffix though, not sure if it counts. pretty sure there is a tissot -master suffix watch too btw LHOOQ made probably my favourite post of all time anywhere; some member said "LHOOQ you have amazing taste, are you god?" LHOOQ: "I own an alpha and an omega!" it had me in stitches for about 5 minutes, my repetition of it here does not do it justice.
  12. it's a rep bracelet for a skyland, but it's that one link were the one side is straight
  13. something tells me the dial colour on his won't be off
  14. Hey guys, a while back the link that connects the clasp on my pro2 to the bracelet part came out. I want to go back to the pro2 for summer, but I can't. What is this missing link called, and would a gen one be inexpensive? or does anyone have a rep one they can sell me? if you're wondering why there's a black border around the second pic, it's because i took it with my iphone and a loupe! looks pretty good tbh. Thanks for reading.
  15. thanks for the answers guys. I guess they won't make them until there is some demand
  16. let's just hope the h-factory works it's way through the entire pam catalogue.
  17. OK, but low-beat is correct for this period rolex? Also, I have decided on the 5513 with the explorer dial. Does anyone know where I can pick up a cheap one?
  18. wow those are lovely guys, thanks. Erkahund watches seem a little expensive for what they are, even though it is a "gen". I suppose the best vintagizer is time! but you can help with a nice dial and hand patina. I think i'm just going to lurk sales forums until a 21j diver turns up. the 21j beat is correct no? also, those riveted bracelets are nice, is there any way to emulate the stretching?
  19. Have there ever been any reps of the breitling models where the gen is actually a quartz? A cousin of mine has this quartz number with two second hands that's pretty cool. it would be nice because a quartz rep of a quartz gen has no movement issues, subdial placement et al has it been done and i just missed it?
  20. Ben's bond sub has made me really want an vintage looking rolex diver. if I don't manage to buy Ben's one (I probably won't considering i'm like 9th in the queue), which is the best model for me to buy and vintageize? what is the best way to vintageize? Can you guys show me your vintage rolex reps? thanks for reading, -US
  21. but I only want to get rid of the rotor noise. Surely this is a simple procedure? I know mechanical watch problems will be fixed by a service, that is the nature of a service. But for me a service will involve not having my watch for a number of weeks, and I can't stand this! Sure I might break something poking around with lube in my watch, but I also might fix it to an acceptable level(for me). If i do break something, it is just a lesson learned. Everyone must start somewhere, and if it's something I can fix for free, why the hell not? If my brake light is out, I don't take my car for a full service, I change the bulb.
  22. Thanks for all the help guys. I've been wearing it this afternoon after I removed the magnetic cover and tightened the rotor screw and there have been no problems. I have ordered some Bergeon KT22 to grease the casebacks of my reps, is this same grease suitable to lube the rotor to remove the noise in this eta clone and my A7750 rep?
  23. It's strange. The watch has been sitting on my desk all night and it hasn't stopped. Maybe my brother was too hasty in saying it was broken? do these movements require time to 'break in' so to speak? he only wore it for about 4 hours, took it off and it stopped on his desk. These rotor problems only appeared when I examined the watch.
