Cracked Jewels - what is going on? A6497-1 defect
hackR replied to RWG Technical's topic in General Discussion
great post, R...once again, thanks!... haven't had this problem --- that i know of! --- in my 6497 movements...but did have the same jewel crack in an genuine eta 2836-2 movement in a rep steelfish... -
and here's a pix of the '06 steelfish x-plus gen for comparison - watch is the one on the left...

Here's a pix of my v1 swiss/best rep dial...i just checked on my other v1 swiss reps (silver, black, blue) and they are similar - but not exact - as this one...there's at least a couple v1/early release dials out there... There are definitely differences between the new v2 and my v1s...check out the '13'-'23" printing and '6', '9' and '12' markers...for starters...but i will say, i like the new v2 dial...it would be crazy to do - not that i'm known for that - but i think this is another mix/match...take the dial/movement/dw from the v2 and transplant into the v1 case...

looks like this new rep steelfish has the dial of the older '06 steelfish x-plus... see this post for details of the dial differences in gen steelfish... http://www.rwg.cc/topic/144249-did-you-knowthere-are-2-different-gen-steelfish-dials-thru-out-the-years/

hmmmm...do you know that there are 2 different gen steelfish dials?...i have a gen blue '08 and it's the same dial as yannou's gen white '10...however, bike mike and by-tor have a diferent dial...Mike's steelfish is an '09 and by-tor's is an '06... why is this interesting?!...breitling source has an article showing the steelfish 44mm "x-plus" -- introduced in '06...after '06, the "x-plus" was dropped and it was simply "steelfish"...this article shows an x-plus '06 that is the same as Mike's (an '09) and by-tor's (an '06)...why is Mike's '09 the same as the '06 yet my '08 is different?...i've googled and web-searched the for sale sites and other references and can't seem to sort this out... anyone with some information or insight? ******************* Check this out: Dial #1: Noticeable features: thicker silver date surround, wider lume surrounds and the '13', '15', '16', '19' etc are more squared off than round...lume appears to be more white than light green uncharged (there are more differences) Breitling source article of the difference in the 42mm and 44mm steelfish circa '06...in '07, Breitling dropped the 42mm steelfish and dropped the "x-plus" from the 44mm... http://blog.breitlin...whats-the-diff/ Here's a pix of the 44mm "x-plus" from this article (on the left): Here's a pix of Mike's '09 Here's a pix of by-tor's '06 'x-plus' Dial #2: Noticeable features: thinner silver date surround, thinner lume surrounds and the '13', '15', '16', '19' etc are more round than square...lume appears to be more light green uncharged (there are more differences) Yannou's pix of his '10 dial (this is the same dial as my '08) Here's a '10 version from a FS post on Breitling Source: There are other differences (to name a few): - shape of '2' in '20, '21', '22', '23' - shape/thickness of the '6','9', '12' - the tick markers on the rehaut are diff lengths - lume is slightly recessed in one, flat to the top of the holder in another I've googled and checked out numerous pictures and FS posts that list the year of the steelfish...i can't seem to determine the ryhme/reason of what dial goes with what year...confusing to me is why: by-tor's '06 dial, flips to my dial in '08', yet flips again in Mike's '09...then i see '10 that look like my '08... Anyhow - not sure i get it, or will ever get it... Just thought this was interesting - yet confusing... R-

hey K...congrats...i appreciate your comaraderie!... that said, sell me your darn tudor...lol...

the gen bracelet is very well made - fit, finish, weight...there's no comparison to rep bracelets...i own a gen blue steelfish...i also own a few steelfish reps and the difference between the gen and rep bracelet is night and day...i will add, tho, that the earlier versions of the steelfish bracelet are better than the later versions...tough to tell about this one...

@kram --> looks great...thanks for sharing and wear it well...R

anybody have a spare 18mm link for a Pro II 20/18 bracelet?
hackR replied to hackR's topic in The Breitling Area
still looking for one...thanks! -
+1...at least mention the color...

the new rep does have a slight blue hue to it...so it looks to be closer to gen ar...i have compared the ar on my v1/early release rep steelfish to my new blue gen steelfish...the breitling ar is just different...but this looks to be close to the best rep ar there is...not clear and not overly blue... i compared the pix of the new white/creme/silver rep to my v1/early release piece and the dials look similar...very similar...my gut reaction is they resurrected the older dials for this one...and added better lume and the previously missing lume markers on the rehaut...for reference, Lanikai has a great post of his asian and swiss white fish...hunt it down to compare... @BT -- affectionately disagree on on the gen fish lume color...i will admit its probably 2/3 c3 and 1/3 c1, but it does have a slight - key word is slight - light green uncharged color...but the minute it hits the smallest shread of light it turns green...the lume on the fish is verrrry bright... all in all - this new fish looks to be pretty darn good - out of the box...especially in white/creme/silver...compared to the gen, the concentric circles on this color appear less "shiny/sunburst" than the blue or black... i've stated before, that from all my "research" the steelfish was assembled in various configurations - and to get the "best" you had to assemble one of the best parts...which means buying multiple watches...so even tho $400usd is a lot, a single good quality fish with a gen eta should sell between $250-$300usd ---> if you can find one for sale...so all in all, i don't think $400usd is out of whack at all...yes - its high...but there's a lot of reps in this price range... as for this price compared to pre-owned --> a nicely cared for pre-owned fish will cost $1500-2000usd...with the blue costing slightly more than the white/creme/silver or black within this range...i got a great deal on the low side of this range on an '08 blue fish that essentially was in the field only 3 years...there's enough quality/fit/finish differences to warrant what i paid...not to mention it being a chronometer grade piece...as BT says, this is one of the best valued versatile pieces out there...not to mention if you ever get the chance to submerge yourself to 6600ft/2000m, you won't need to change your watch...

Edge2Edge diameter of a 7750 datewheel needed...
hackR replied to hackR's topic in General Discussion
thanks, Tom... Just found this info online from ajoesmith... Inside diameter is approx 18.25mm Outside diameter is approx 24.55mm -
Hi Guys...am at work - so i don't have a dw with me...can someone please accurately measure (calipers) the diameter of a 7750...looking into making or buying a ring for the sunken dw mod on a couple v1 Navitimers...inspired from both Francisco and Importr's recent work on this mod... Here's a pix of the measurement i'm looking for (the red line) from Francisco's terrific post on this mod: thanks for the information...R

@Snpr...excellent pix!...thanks...and nice to see its 100% swiss/eta...
-
@Snpr...any chance you can open the case and take some macros of the movement/inside...especially of the balance wheel jewl assembly so we can tell if its eta or clone?... if you don't have a tool, wad up some packing tape - sticky side out - and then press and turn...it should come off easily enough...thanks...R
