  1. hey Robbie...a pleasure to see you back!...hope you are well...R
  2. hey Pete...yes - the "1" and "11" have tails...the date wheel you have above is identical on all numbers with my Seawolf...the old skool ti seawolf has a gen eta - a 2824-2, if i recall right...
  3. yup...it's the same...wearing my old skool ti Seawolf today and its definitely the same...
  4. pssst - i posted this as i thought it was an article to spark discussion...i, too, thought it was a lousy article with an obscure rationale for making the Seiko a "cheap, high end watch"...
  5. old thread...Z's work on my 252 is a masterpiece...i asked him to re-lume it blue...its brilliant!
  6. @Importr...after i typed the above, i, too, was chalking up the difference in my v1s bezels to manufacturing worksmanship...the cases are similar, but definitely finished differently...lug horns, edge beveling, etc...dials are much closer to each other than different...both are low beat - but one has the decorated rotor, the other plain...who knows - it could have been changed over time...i'll take some pix when i get a chance...are both your v1s with the decorated "engraved/stickered" rotor?...my Fighter case is also like yours - much better and refined bezel milling and lug detailing...the lug beveling is more pronounced then the v1 Navis, but a lot less than the gen, of course...my subdials are the same as yours - with the white arabic dial's center slightly more pronounced/raised... all good stuff!...
  7. i have (2) old skool tricompax arabic Navis...one is black, the other white...my black one is in a case similar to Pete's pix of his with the ss bracelet...the white one is in a case similar to Importr's tricompax franken in this post...i never noticed the difference in cases of these models...i think you spotted the differences in the bezel edges, right? soooo -- this means we have 2 slightly different old skool cases that fit eta movements...interesting, huh? how can you tell the difference in cases?...is it the difference in the bezel edging?...i now have (2) old skool tricompax Navis - both arabic, one black, one white...definitely a slight difference in cases...one has more pointed bezel edges, the other more flat (the area between the round drilled edge cuts)...the lugs are also slightly different in shape - especially noticeable on the lug flat ends...one is more rectangular (thinner), the other more square shaped (thicker) -- when viewed looking at the lug tops, dial side, straight on - one if thinner if that makes sense...both Navis have similar dials with aligned sliderules (one is almost perfect, the other only off ever so slightly...case thicknesses and engraving similar - but i haven't looped it to see...both seem to be low-beat by ear - one with engraved look rotor, the other plain...lastly, one has a more raised middle section of pie-pan on the subdials - ever so slightly, tho...but the rest of the dial details look similar...but probably diff...but damn close... any insights are helpful and appreciate...planned to research pete's post and andrewws guide again to sort it out...getting old...lol... i modded the black tri-compax by adding double ar and a 4.5 eta dw...the dw is sunken, but much less than the current bunch...and the eta 4.5 makes a big difference...definitely interested in the franken mod that Importr did - but may try to hunt down an a7753 and try that with a gen dial and eta 7750 dw...thinking this combo might work, too...but all in good time and when monies permit... for now - planning to complete my Fighter with eta7750, gen breitling 7750 dw...but need to hunt down the right gen old Navi dial...most i've seen are marked up from lousy storage...my Fighter case is different from these 2 tricompax cases, too...it has a bevel edge on the top of the lugs...its similar to Importr's rep Fighter in his terrific reference post of his rep Fighter and his gen Fighter...interesting how all these cases are slightly different - especially since they are earlier (v1'ish cases)...none of my Navis are the new models...all 3 are old skool cases... 8. http://www.askmen.com/fashion/trends_600/685_the-cheapest-high-end-watch.html enjoy - R
  9. is there a good simple way to polish up these small items on a dial?...obviously, it would be tough to polish up with cape cod or other polishing methods usually reserved for cases...any suggestions would be appreciated... happy new year, everyone!
  10. rumblings of a new Navi coming - source: Angus on repgeek...fingers are crossed...
  11. @Maxman, @Lobster --> regarding Terre d'Hermes: how best to decide between the parfum and EDT?
  12. wowsa...looks great!... i like how you decided to orient the datewheel (would pass for gen on days 1-9!)... does the date align perfectly with the datewindow on its own?... i thought i read "somewhere" that you can use the new a7753 movement with an eta dw on frankens to eliminate the sunken dw problem and date positioning...but not sure i've seen a 3-6-9 config...did you see this, too...i can't recall the details - but it gave promise to getting closer to a tri-compax franken with the old skool case... my old school arabic tri-compax navi could use that "not for sale" gen black arabic dial...so - what do you want in trade if its not for sale?!... well done!
  13. a couple more differences... 1) the second hand is thinner on the gen then rep 2) the accent on the "e" in "Geneve" is absent on the rep
  14. hey Stace - from the looks of the gen, the minute hand is thinner than the hour hand...in your pix, they look to be the same width...is that true?... standard rep lume on these?... @phoband --> good to see you... R-
  15. yes - the buyer is reputable..i bought 2 movements from the same guy in a RWI group buy earlier this year...but both were more decorated then this one...price was around 150 euros if i recall right... i also checked the guy's feedback and he sold a couple of other eta 7750 for 150 euros and received good feedback... there's no decoration on these...so they are basic eta...the ones i bought were decorated...
  16. Merry Christmas...gotta wear a little red on Christmas Day!...
  17. ho, ho, ho... Merry Christmas Everyone...
  18. to all those planning or considering to buy: you can buy this watch with the ss bracelet and then add the dark grey strap w/deployment...just ask Tony for both... R- @Andy -- no, the gen doesn't have the date window surround...it does have a slight bevel in the dial's date window...am pondering taking the dial off and seeing if the date surround has pins to fasten it or whether its simply glued on...either way, it looks good with the date window, too...same goes for the date font - looks fine to me...afterall, how many people have actually seen one of these in the wild to even know!
  19. Merry Christmas, Everyone... Been a quiet day - and i was able to finally get the hands of my milsub tinted/vintaged the same as my dial... Readying for dinner now - church later... Enjoy your night and to those where Christmas Day is already here, wishing you a very Merry Christmas! R-
  20. looks great...well done...very creative... when i baked my dial, the printing turned gilt...your printing still looks white...did it fade at all?
  21. hope you're feeling better J... Happy Holidays, RWG!
  22. my favorite worn brown strap for my 036... @collector - love that Kain heritage...been on the hunt for one of the darker ones with gray stitching...
