I was very fortunate to "acquire" this watch because of several member's generosity You guys know who you are and I can not thank you enough!
The only mods to this one were double AR and the correct DLC finish. Now it's very close to the original Pro-Hunter version. The OEM version has a matte coating as well and is referred to as their military spec GMT.
Arrived this morning so I took some quick phone pics under different lighting indoors and out. The darkness of the coating can vary quite a bit.
iPhone 4 and Snapseed...
... Camera+
Forgot to mention, the model is a PAM 111. Not unusual for a rep movement to run great.
Also, yours is a perfect watch to learn on if you want to start taking watches apart and working on them.
Looks great this time. You are looking at macros that are 25 times bigger than life. Even macros of gens reveal similar flaws, BUT they are not or will be visible to the naked eye... I promise
Especially with the OFFICINE PANERAI on the movement plate. The inner cutout on the cg is good as well as the cg lever length.
The lens too can distort shapes especially in macro mode with a little point and shoot camera. N series serial = V3
Your good to go with this one.
The 390 is polished stainless steel. But it does have the most accurate to gen brown dial.
The 240 dial is a little less accurate brown but it uses a Titanium case set.
Thanks! I can relate to your smith's response, it's taken me several months of experimenting just to find the right size blast media.
Yes ss, see my op. Only looks dark in some lighting situations, medium to light gray in most.
Glass artist. She has several blasting cabinets. Here's the largest one, getting ready to move into a larger studio.
Thanks, see post #8 above for a pic.
Well I'd been thinking about doing something like this for a long time. Then I got inspired when member Tanya sent me an old-school 111H rep from yesteryear to play with. Lots of faults but solid enough to experiment with.
So it was off to the studio today to use my wife's sand/bead blasting equipment.
Infinite possibilities for what could be bead-blasted, brushed and left polished. I came up with this combo and am considering going all blasted for my 390 (think Ennebi's case sets).
Ready for cleaning and masking...
First part done and the cg looks good...
Next up was the buckle's tang... I like the contrast...
Ready for movement tabs...
The following pics were taken under a variety of lighting conditions. Indoor, outdoor... you can see how the lightness and darkness, as well as shades of gray, are all over the place.
Excuse the fingerprints, should have washed my hands after pizza
I'll take some more pics tomorrow morning so you can see how nice the finish really looks
____________
EDIT... Pics taken this morning in daylight outside and inside. This is how the finish looks most of the time in terms of color and lightness.
He was talking about a Ti cg which Noob hasn't upgraded yet. Would look odd swapping it out for a brushed ss cg.
The V3 is good as is, no need to swap anything on it...
