  1. I'm with you LH, I still can't keep the early models straight. Here's a brief history from Dowling and Hess: http://www.newturfers.com/bin/mwf/topic_show.pl?tid=37834 OCC dials were used until around '63 or so when they were replaced w/ SCOC dials. Also, Swiss dials (using radium)went out about the same time as Rolex started using tritium, hence the Swiss-T<25 came into existence. So this is an early 1016 dial, which explains the high price, I guess. It would be worth it if you had a gen where you needed to replace the dial, but not for a franken, IMO. But different strokes for different folks.
  2. Hmm, I'm thinking w/ dial feet at 6 and 11:30 that it's for a 1560/1570 movement and a 1016....
  3. @gplracer, I think TMG and Freddy both sent Silix GMT dials to CWP and CWP redid them- new dial printing, etc. @ drury, the crown from suissetime would be OK, but until you get it, you won't know which case tube goes with it. A 24-602 crown takes a 6mm, 24-6020 tube. A 24-603 crown may take a 5.3mm case tube, as I recall. But suissetime won't know which one they're selling you. Your crown isn't too bad and the more I look at your cg's, the more I think maybe you just enjoy the watch and put a little age on it- it's very nice as is!
  4. Very nice! I guess this finally answers the question, "Who has the best Sub?"
  5. Early dials for the Comex SD were matte- like the 1665 and 16660 (early 80's)dials. Dials from the late 80's and early 90's had the white gold surrounds around the hour markers. You can check out http://www.doubleredseadweller.com/ for the story of the Comex watches and more vintage Rolex minutiae.
  6. I'm glad to hear that DW is getting you a new dial. His stuff isn't always the best in terms of quality, but at least he stands behind his product. You don't say if this is the 7750 movement in this watch, or the V72.
  7. I guess you might have found a deal or two- the bracelet and maybe the bakelite insert. I think the cases are the same price as on the website.
  8. The insert looks fine now. You could copy that early 1675 from Interwatches for the crown guards, or find another 1675 that you like. During that era, Rolex cg's were changing. And after 30-40 yrs of polishing they change a little more. You just want to get away from the Sub style cg's- GMT's are decidedly different. Crown is the 6mm, and the case tube might be the 5.3mm- I'm kinda weak on 6mm crowns and tubes, but someone else could probably steer you in the right direction.
  9. The only place I found was ndtradingcorp on the bay http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolex-Dial-16660-COMEX-4000ft-1220m-SEA-DWELLER_W0QQitemZ170331101067QQcmdZViewItemQQptZWristwatches?hash=item27a886578b It's the matte dial, I believe, for a 16660- predecessor to the 16600. Don't know why the Comex dial for the 16600 has never taken off.
  10. If you can get the top of the insert flush w/ the top edge of the bezel that may be the best you can do. You remove the insert and file the backside. Remember, rolex inserts snap in, so they typically sit just a tad under the lip of the bezel. TMG's list of mods is impressive Here's another 1675 w/ pointer crown guards: http://cgi.ebay.com/Collectible-ROLEX-GMT-MASTER-DATE-Cornino-Watch-1675_W0QQitemZ140362997604QQcmdZViewItemQQptZWristwatches?hash=item20ae495f64
  11. With that dial, you've corrected one of the biggest faults, no more 'Oyster Perpetual Date'. I'd like to hear how you did that because usually the gen/aftermarket dials are too small for the rep cases. Shaping the crown guards would help, GMT cgs are different from sub cgs, maybe a gen crown and tube and an older bracelet. Also, you could file the backside of the insert to help it seat better in the bezel. But you've got a nice 1675 already, congrats!
  12. Yep, it's time for a new crystal! underline dial, 4-63, gold hour hand, silver minute and seconds, Swiss- pre tritium dial, p-cgs, fat font insert, old twinlock crown, rivetted bracelet. Certainly a beauty for 46 years old.
  13. Maybe it's availability, but most cases are made for the 2836, so a 2824 won't fit. Also a 2836 is similar to a DG2813. But I don't know why the rep mfrs chose the 2836 over the 2824, unless it is because it's interchangeable w/ a 2813- one case fit both.
  14. I'm wearing my gen 16800 today- yes the bezel hangs out over the case. With my $5 chinese calipers, the bezel measures 39.9mm or 40.0mm. Case measures 39.3mm between 2 and 8. Watch is 27 yrs old, been polished once or twice probably. Bezel assembly is the same for 16800 and 16610 watches, crystals are the same- biggest difference is the rehaut and the movements. Like BK says, you could put a gen 3135 in the V3 if you were so inclined.
  15. It's not bad looking, but I'd still like to see something that has gen characteristics like the bezel assembly, taking a gen insert and gen crystal- all the advances made by WM9 and the euromariner/MBW in a less expensive rep..
  16. The case will work, but it has no bezel and the bezels aren't easy to find by themselves, in my experience.
  17. The bottom of the pic says Rolex WM9. Good rehaut, good pearl, it's the best rep out there at the moment.
  18. The best place to start is w/ the MBW subs- not cheap, but they're the best cases to begin with. Check out Eurotimez. Then like lani says, check out the list of mod sources in the main section.
  19. Great pics, beautiful watch! With V3, I don't know where we go from here... Enjoy!
  20. You could switch from a jubilee band to an oyster band w/ solid mid links.
  21. Yeh, I don't use gorilla glue, or epoxy on inserts. I've used the GS Hypo-cement and done OK. It's not as strong, but it sure makes it easier if you're removing the insert! here's an insert for $24+, http://cgi.ebay.com/BLACK-BEZEL-INSERT-FIT-ROLEX-SEA-DWELLER-WATCH-PARTS_W0QQitemZ250506776975QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3a535e118f
  22. You're there with the cg's, looking good. The problem w/ recessing the insert on the SSD is that it makes the crystal height more pronounced- so I'd go w/ 'less is best' in this case. Better luck on your next insert. I used an x-acto knife to enlarge the hole before installing the WM pearl- worked OK- just go slowly and keep testing so you don't over enlarge.
  23. Movement looks similar to the 1225 manual wind. I'd figure it's from the 40s or 50s, fugly dial, is that a gold case?
  24. I've been picking up used gen inserts in good condition for $50-60 on ebay. Just have to be patient- Sheartime has been a good source.
