  1. Ha! I'm in the 95%. Skip the engraving and BK is a great choice. If I hadn't already just got a Euromariner, I would have gone with the BK WM9- the superlume is what does it for me. I have one franken with a relumed dial and it's the cat's meow. From now on I'm reluming all of my rep dials.
  2. A 2846 is 21600bph. Sure it's not a 28.8K beat, but people really can't tell the difference just looking at the second hand. But if you were able to trade for a 2836, it would at least have the correct beat. But it's not that big a deal IMO.
  3. OK. It is interesting how the Datejust was kinda at the forefront of Rolex movement development. 1565, 1575, 3035 and 3135. Of course, it's been around for a long time.
  4. One thing, Freddy, the slow beat 1520 was around into the late 80's in the 5513. Finally replaced by the 14060 w/ the 3130 movt around 1990, give or take a year. Amazing that it lasted so long in production.
  5. I'm not sure when the lugholes went away- somewhere into the 16200 models which are the ones with the latest movement- the 3135. Maybe around 2000... The slowbeat 1560 and 1570 movements in the 1600/1601 DJ's were around until the late 70's, replaced by the 3035 movement and the 160xx models around 1978-9. The 1530 and 1560 were the early slowbeats- maybe 18000bph-used up into the middle 60's The 1570 and 1520 were 19800bph- if I'm correct and replaced the 1530/60!
  6. Ha! Nanuq, your native may be missing her front teeth, but I still like Ken's better!
  7. Sure looks like fun! I would have loved to be there. And great pics, thanks for sharing.
  8. http://www.rwg.cc/members/WM9-Euromariner-...x+copy+movement Here's the discussion on the copy 3135
  9. It was EPZ- elprimerozen- that showed the destroyed 3135 as I recall. Wasn't it destroyed by Rolex after someone brought it in for service? Developing a 1570 copy would be where the expense is. After that, the cost would come way down- kinda like Hangzhou and Seagull and their eta copies. And with any copy, the big question is the compatibility of gen or aftermarket parts
  10. I don't recall who showed the pic of a 3135 movement, but the engraving was the big tell on it also- the Swiss and 3135 were much bolder than on the gen movement. On this one, DW is referring to it as vintage. The dial doesn't look bad either IMO. With an NDTrading case at around $1200, you'd almost be there. This is about what we spend on similar frankens. It would be interesting to know what DW's cost is on these!
  11. Here's a place in the US- I just googled metric tapping set, 3mm x .35 http://www.victornet.com/cgi-bin/victor/pr...aps:602,902,604 scroll down to 3mm and .35- $5.40 typical size for 3mm is .5mm on the thread pitch. At that price, I'd order a few. Maybe a metric drill bit or two- 2.65mm.
  12. The beginmariner is a noob with the PTS Resources 2813 movement in it. I consider the movement to be the best of the Chinese DG2813's. Same noob shortcomings- needs a better pearl, a better crown (smaller- don't know if they've fixed that yet) and maybe a slight trim on the cg's. But good watches for the price- i.e. cheap.
  13. Very nice write-up, B-T. This answers the question of who has the best sub for me, BK!
  14. Unless you can find the 3.0mm x .35 tap, you need to break down and just buy the Rolex tap, like from CousinsUK. Sometimes they want to sell you the pair of taps- including the smaller one for the 5.3mm tubes. Or you could go to Jules Borel here in the US and just buy the single tap for around $35. You don't say which MBW you are working on. On my Euromariner, which is an MBW, I removed the old tube and just tapped the hole and installed the new tube. Countersinking is a decision you have to make on your own. I did have to countersink the two noob cases which I put Rolex crowns and tubes in. On older MBW's, when you removed the tube, it was also necessary to redrill the case hole so it was larger, before you tapped it. I made the mistake of not drilling the hole and busted a tap in the case hole- ugly, and a waste of a good case.
  15. I'm with you on this Charlie. I got my nephew one (8926) and a friend I scuba dive with has the ladies version- tested fine to 100 ft. She liked it so well, we got her daughter the quartz version- on sale for like $60. They've really been pretty good watches.
  16. Post 2000- SL dial (seems like 5 ticks was after 3 ticks- but luminova came after tritium very briefly- dial said Swiss- c.2000. then SL after that- dial said 'Swiss Made'), still has lugholes, but SEL bracelet. My guess is 2003-4. It's definitely a gen insert.
  17. I agree with what Southcoast said. And since you already ordered another flat washer, you should hopefully be able to get squared away from there. Worse case scenario would be having to sand down the top of the tension ring, maybe.
  18. Indy, maybe you and I could get a package deal in a Photography 101 class! Too bad this watch missed the GTG by 5 days. Is this a V234, 7734, or something else?
  19. Invicta actually got called down by Rolex for copying the 'coin edge' bezel a few years ago. So most of their watches have the new bezel like the one shown. But you still see the 8926 from time to time offered with the coin edge bezel. About $10-15 more than the regular 8926. The miyota movement is great, and this is quite a good beater for the $100+ price tag. PMWF has a write-up on this watch.
  20. The more I look at it, the only thing I don't like is the bezel washer- it needs to be flat.
  21. Orig Polex Design- just like an MBW, but heck, the Chinese will copy anything!
  22. Thanks cableguy and offshore! I had been looking at that watch myself. Same kinda deal- a beater for the beach, etc. Just hadn't got around to pulling the trigger- I could always wear the WR noobmariner.
  23. early 60's 6541. Same bezel and crystal as a 5508. Paul Boutros- isn't that a gen?
