Rags, MBW doesn't show the 5517. They have the 5512 & gilt dial 5513 and those are based on the MBW 1680 case.
-
Both use the same, 2mm body with 1.2mm ends. That's going to be tricky drilling the side case holes on a flush case. Keep us posted on how you do this.

Excellent pics and very nice Sub, BT! When you have Palp install the crowntube, perhaps he polish the inner ring and clean the inside of the crystal for you. It makes a huge difference IMO and it's very little additional work. These small touches add up very nicely.

WOW! A very happy B-day, BT! Your new ETA Sub arrived just in time! I'll have a couple of cool ones in your honor this evening. Have fun!

That is one fine piece of art, avitt! Fantastic looking piece you've created. I'm taken by the almost perfect symmetry of your CGs. Did you refinish the dial yourself as well? It looks terrific! It does take quite a few sources to source all the necessary parts. The collection process can be the most time consuming and frustrating to create one of these beauties . It's also not exactly easy on the wallet. Enjoy!

I would guess Ixtapa and maybe I'm close. It's a fantastic place to do all the important things in life. Have a terrific time and a safe journey!

I could be wrong but judging from your bezel ring and case, I believe you have the TW case used for the MBW/WM 16710. If you could swap the 1675 dial to that of a 16710 and install a sapphire crystal, you could be in good shape. Bill's comments on lack of water resistance makes perfect sense if trying to accomplish a proper seal with an acrylic crystal on a case that is not designed for it. BTW, the TW 16710 from WM & MBW, was available with the 2893-2. As far as I know, the 1675 of both were only available with the 2836-2. Best of luck.

Great looker you have there, MP! Very nice case work. Did Oli also age the dial for you? The markers look terrific as does the matching patina on the hands. Enjoy!

Might try cleaning the threads and applying a thin coat of silicone grease. These watches are exactly assembled in a clean room environment. This is one of the first things I do when a watch arrives and it helps.

I can help with this since I have both Pam 2893-2s. GMT hand Hour Minute Second Many thanks for all the help, gents! The hands are the last remining parts I need to get the project under way. BTW, the 2893-2 hand stack would be correct for the matte dial GMT Masters. They were changed with the WG surround dials.
-
vaccum, on the 2893-2 GMT Master, the GMT hand is located at the bottom of the stack followed by hour, minute and second. Does this mean that the Ebay hands would be correct?

It would destroy my CC limit if I were to shop in HK. My understanding is that there are a ton of ADs and in some areas, they are quite a few close to each other. You can also check the watch manufacurer web sites for AD locations. Prices for Rlx (as an example) tend to be around 15% lower compared to the US plus you can swing an additional 10% discount, specially if paying with cash. I would try for 15% but I hear that's a rarity. A buddy picked up a TT in HK a couple of years ago and saved around 20%, which is a nice chunk of change. No sales tax either. Have a fantastic & safe trip!

Thanks for the heads up, vaccum! I knew not to pull the trigger until I heard from the mod experts. Any ideas where correct hands for the 2893-2 can be sourced?

Great work, vaccum! The watch looks fantastic!

Hi, everyone: I'm looking for an accurate GMT hand for the TW 2893-2 GMT Master. The standard GMT hand that's installed on the watch is a bit short. The current crop of 2836-2 GMTs have the accurate hands but I don't believe these willl fit the 2893-2. I came across these on Ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/WATCH-HANDS-FOR-MENS-G...VQQcmdZViewItem Does anyone have experience with these? Is there another source that I should consider? Thanks for the help!

That's one heck of a kind gesture by Relaxman. Awesome book for the primo O-meih-ga connoisseur on the forums. Very well deserved, if I may add. RWG at its best. Happy reading BT!

This is one excellent review, azgjav! Something like this must have taken quite a bit of time and effort on your part. Wonderful photo shoot! Many thanks for taking the time and sharing! RWG at its best.

I agree that some of the Asia 7750 super reps are priced in an uncomfortable zone given their movements. The probabily of requiring a $200+ service is also something to be considered. We've had super reps in the past but these also had what I would label "super" movements as well. The ETA 7753, 2893-2 Pams & rollie GMTs plus 2892-2 FMs come to mind. The 7753 Pam was not priced too much above the HBB and that was one hell of a watch with the same movement as the gen. The new super reps such as the Steelfish and Ultimate PO are they way to go, IMO. These have reliable movements at a price that keeps the collecting process fun. Too many problems reported with the Asia 7750 to consider at this price unless it included a trip to the The Zigmeister spa.

Riverwind, it would be helpful if Sash would post a profile photo that would illustrate the thickness of the crystal. It's not clear from his photo #4. The gen has a thick and beveled crystal. River's TW Best 16610 is quite good in this regard, for example: http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b327/riv...nt=DSCN4963.jpg

Immediate Attention Serious Trouble
Jetsons replied to piratedzeus's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Try this....get a bag or two of silica gel ( the small bags that come in shoe boxes), pull the crown all the way out as you've done and place the watch in a plastic baggie with the silica gel bags. Seal the baggie and let the watch sit for the better part of a day. Best if you place the watch in a warm spot (sunlight) I've done this before and it solved the problem. Best of luck! -
Excellent work, Miquel! I bet is feels a heck of a lot better as well. Best single mod there is for these rollies!

Great watch and work, chief! I have the same but have only installed OEM bars and insert. As you say, the case and crystal are excellent on this 16610 & it's probably the best Sub case ever produced. I have a spare hollow mid-link bracelet that I need to drill and install.....thanks for the reminder. Your crown is fine & looks to be the correct 7mm gen. I think the issue you may have is that there is a bit too much metal at the base of the crown. If you could remove a tiny bit of metal from the case so the crown sits deeper in the CG, I think you'll be quite happy with it. Thanks for sharing!

I'm with BT.....it is also difficult for me to criticize a new watch specially when it is a new arrival. It's a nice watch but it is over priced given the alternatives. IMO, it's best to begin with a $200 or less Sub as a platform (the Sash and Paul ultimate ETA would fit the bill). I would invest the balance installing an OEM insert, crown/tube and perhaps a re-lume. I think the end result would be as good as one could have given the Subs that are available. The total cost should be in-line with the price of this one. What takes these watches to the next level, if one chooses to go there, are OEM parts. They make a night and day difference in operation, look and feel of the watch.
-
This is a start but it has issues that can easily be spotted. Outside of the incorrect CGs (pointy on the 14060), poor insert pearl, side case holes and bracelet need to be drilled, the crystal height looks way too shallow. The bracelet has the incorrect solid mid-links and it appears to be of the SEL variety. Should be non-SEL on the 14060. The Sub bezel on this one is also not correct. The best non-vintage there is the 16610 simply as it is so popular. These usually have the thick crystal, accurate bracelets, good quality dials plus decent CGs. Add an OEM insert and you're set to go.

The GMTs are great watches! Change the insert and it looks totally diffferent. This one will be going through some changes when I finish collecting the parts.
