  1. This is very, very sad news. Not much to add except that EL & River will be very sorely missed.
  2. Falco, I've always read that gen hands would not fit the 2893-2 or any other ETA movement for that matter. Are you positive about this? If so, I'll start my hunt for an OEM GMT hand pronto.
  3. J and A, if you could build a "really good 1:1 Sub", you may need more than one factory to fill the demand. I hope you guys can do this as the Sub could sure use the attention many of the latest clones have received. Ditto for the Sea-Dweller! I agree, starting fresh is good. I'm sure we will do our part to help in any way we can. Happy Chinese New Year!
  4. I stumbled across these new sport straps by Hadley Roma that might be a good compliment for the PO. They are available in 22mm 20mm lug widths and in several colors including black and orange. The price is certainly right. What do you think? 5. Giving this poor man's polex a ride today. A bit of red for the evening since it's Valentines.
  6. Danny, I sure hope you can pull this project off! I don't think filling orders would be too much of a problem for you. I'm in for one, for starters.
  7. That's what I call helping a fellow member out. Great stuff, Krusty! As a side note, the 42mm PO bracelet is priced over the top IMO unless they've managed to eliminate the gap at the endlinks. If they have, it would be great if dealers would make the improved endlinks available at a reasonable price.
  8. Great tutorial and of course, the usual excellent photos. Thanks, Pug! I'll add that to remove a stubborn insert, soak the bezel/insert assembly in soapy warm water for approx. an hour. This will dissolve the glue & the insert can be removed easily without risk of damage. I've done a few this way and the process is a breeze.
  9. There may be a chance that you could remove the case back with a rolled-up wad of duct tape. Some of these case backs are not screwed on very tightly. If that doesn't work, it's a good idea to invest in a proper case opener which would prevent sratching or damaging the case. When the case back is removed, apply a thin coat of silicone grease to the rubber O-ring as they are usually bone dry. Make sure the rubber ring is properly seated in its groove before installing the cover and you shouldn't have any problems. This will go a long way to keeping moisture out of the movement. Also, clean the crown threads (usually dirty) and apply a thin coat of silicone grease to the rubber crown seal. As to servicing the movement, I would leave it be (at least for a while) if it runs properly and keeps good time. However, most of these movements can be dirty and/or dry so a service is a worthwhile investment assuming you decide to keep the watch for the long term. BTW, don't manually wind the ETA, instead, rock the watch back and forth on your palm to get it started and let the wrist do the rest. Enjoy the new toy!
  10. Excellent post and photos, Flav. Very nice finish on the movement.....looks terrific! I'm surprised that a gen movement on this caliber watch would be as dry as you found it. Thanks for sharing!
  11. New colorful GMT. The little guy is a bit larger now.
  12. Thanks, Flav! I just need to figure out how to do it again. Beautiful Omega collection.
  13. Perhaps something along these lines be acceptable for the dial finish. BTW, this is a gen dial.
  14. That looks terrific, Bill & a damn good find! I've seen these before but wasn't sure about their quality. Thanks for clearing it up for us. I was also blown away when my 1665 arrived with the new crystal installed. Pug, it's the best single improvement one can make on these watches. A vintage acrylic pearl on your inserts would be a darn nice improvement as well.
  15. Out of my clone collection, I would have a very difficult time parting with this trio: MBW 1665 with some good parts installed TW Best 16710 with a delicious 2893-2 An old friend, TW Best 16610
  16. Bill, it's visually identical to the16610's but shorter. Here you go:
  17. Beatiful watches! How did you get the case back engraving to look vintage? Very nice work.
  18. Thanks for all the suggestions, gents! I very much appreciate your help. Ubi, it would be terrific to have the gen but it's a little over the budget right now. I will keep it in mind.
  19. Not too bad. http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tre...05312&rid=0
  20. I'm in as well but they need to at least install proper side case holes & leave the dial white or better yet, ivory.....just not that plastic looking yellow most have. Big plus if it were available with an ETA. There would be no problems fitting hands with slower beat ETA movements if one wanted to do so. A few I managed to find in my hard drive. Added a few more:
  21. Since the watch is only a few moths old, why not contact Steinhart. They have a reputation for very good customer service so why not give them a try. Isn't the watch under warranty? IMO, $220 seems over the top for servicing a relatively new 2824.
  22. The TW's will pop right off by carefully applying upward pressure around the bezel with a case knife or similar. There is a thin metal washer underneath with three prongs. Never done this to a CN but many times to my TW 16610. Very easy operation.
  23. Hi, everyone: Would appreciate your help locating a proper short clasp for my Gmt Master 16710 bracelet, solid mid-links. If anyone has ideas as to where one can be found, I'm all ears. Thanks!
  24. Gen: Rep: The rep's crown is too low in the case. I believe this is what I was attepting to communicate above. Not sure what the issue is with a couple of above posters. In any case, since photos are worth a thousand words, one can arrive at their own conclusions.
  25. I'm with Tribal plus this one achieves the deeper set dial by locating the crown (and movement) very low on the case. Judging from the photos, the crown is almost off the case. It would be hard as hell to get an OEM tube into this case. With the gen, the bottom of the crown is flush with the case. Really, these guys need to start with a clean slate and finally get this watch accurate, specially at this price point. They did it with the PO and others so why not the Sub & SD?
