  1. The seller could have sent you some much better quality photos for starters. It's difficult enough to purchase a gen sub from an unknown source let alone with this kind of sketchy info. I would suggest passing on this one. The six o'clock marker looks too long plus the rlx crown is positioned too far from the 12 o'clock marker. Keep looking and buy from a highly reputable source. The 14060 is a terrific watch. Gen, notice the differences:
  2. Randy, I wouldn't worry about the cell phone. Warren Buffet has never owned one and he's done quite well for himself and a lot of other folks.
  3. Randy, at one time or another I think I've had most of them. I now only use Amex which is simply a charge card....pmt due in full at the end of the billing cycle unless one opts for their sign & trave feature which I do not. I use it to facilitate all my purchases and pay with a single monthly online payment. There are no charge limits which comes in handy. It doubles the warranty on bpurchases (up to one year & it works)) and have never incurred a late pmt charge or interest charge. I've had my fair share of problems with lost cards here & abroad, stolen, unauthorized charges and all problems have always been promptly resolved. There is actually a helpful live human that takes the call. This may sound like some sort of add but it has been a terrific card in the 15 years or so I've used it. There is an annual fee (differs with the card one has, green, gold-what I use or platinum) but have no complaints. I think you'll enjoy the new covenience, specially if you travel.
  4. Nice watch TT but me thinks it's a rep. It would be tough to spot on the wrist with a gen pearl. What caught my eye was the lume not as evenly neatly applied as the gen & the dial surrounds are a bit thin. Getting picky, the hour hand appears a tad short and the six o'clock marker is too low. With a gen dial and insert it would be as close to perfect outside of the gen & you've saved $$$$s.
  5. Beautiful watch, Neil! As Ubi mentioned, they indeed look very familiar. I hope the photos can materialize into the real deal. Best of luck with this. Cheers, Jet
  6. Also found these at the Bay for less but not sure which would be the correct size. http://search.stores.ebay.com/oval_Leather...ocusZbsQQsofpZ4
  7. I just sent an email to the high bidder which seems like an honest chap & has a VG track record. Hopefully he'll listen. Good catch!
  8. Very sorry to hear about your loss, Neil. Best wishes, Jet
  9. SD with the old discontinued side case holes case. I can't warm up to the new flush case, not on the SD or any of the sports models for that matter. Unfortunately, the SD doesn't sit comfortably on my wrist with its thick and steeply angled case back. I'l also a big fan of the 14060, the only remaining sports model to retain the side case holes and thick [censored] spring bars. The simple and clean dial is a thing of beauty IMO, as it was with the original. Reps of these aren't even close, either. Nice problem to have.
  10. A black sporty leather strap such as the racing style popular with Heuer watches may be an option. They look comfy and may try one out myself. http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tre...98258&rid=0 I also second, third......, the classic Bond blue or black Bond Nato bands. Pugs has mentioned these as some of the better ones available, http://www.timefactors.com/nato.htm
  11. Beautiful! Vive La Diference I believe Arthur found an OEM vintage insert.
  12. You certainly took your time putting the audiophile tube system together. Great to have you back! Cheers, Jet
  13. Homer was a UK based dealer that was here for a while. Actually, I meant PT (precious time) but other dealers now have the exact watch as well. We need to have a cool one or two, J. Let me know when it's good for you.
  14. aero, your sentiments can be applied to just about any watch brand depending on personal tastes. There are many well respected brands that I admire but would never care to own or wear. BTW, I also hated those ungly contraptions when I was first introduced to them, a buddy's gen Pam 111. I now enjoy Pams and they are a great contrast to the others in my collection. I wear mostly tool/sport watches but sporting Pams is a nice refreshing change. They are very different from most anything else on the market which is a plus. My wife is the one that has one bonkers over them as have her friends. Women really do love those ugly Pams! Top tier Pam reps are very well executed & use high quality movements so I can see why so many find them interesting enough to at least try out.
  15. J, I was contemplating a similar project and came up with some thoughts that you may find of some use. 1) Start off with the Homer or equivalent GMT which looks very good. Check into Bytor's review on this one. 2) Source an ETA 2893-2 (terrific movement) and loose the basterdized 2836-2 movement. Tourbillon1801 can help on this front plus a good price. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=10531 3) Source hands for 2893-2. This chap has them as probably others, http://cgi.ebay.com/WATCH-HANDS-FOR-MENS-G...1QQcmdZViewItem Best of luck!
  16. Gorgeous watch and great work on the CGs. The MBW 1665 is a thing of beauty with OEM parts installed and a bit of case work. I like your bracelet as well. Homer should offer a bit of a price break to RWG.
  17. I would go for it! That's a great looking watch and looks to be a darn good deal. You seem to like the size of the Pams, the Orsa afould fit the billl nicely. Look forward to reading your review. Cheers, Jet
  18. Don is a great guy to deal with and has a nice selection or short lengths. http://www.homestead.com/rlx/DON6.html
  19. Many congrats on a terrifc watch, mikellem. Make sure an load up on the caffeine today. You don't sound excited enough!
  20. Bytor, I would gladly pay $300 and throw in the noobmariner is I didn't own a Tudor. That's a terrific rare watch that as 2005Sub mentioned, you just don't see too often. Your Tudor dial looks darn good (gen?) plus has a very accurate case after mods. The case back, based on the photo I've seen, may be gen as well. Throw in the slow beat ETA and you have a winner. I too wouldn't mind seeing more accurate Tudor sub clones.
  21. I hate the ugly buggers but for some reason, this gets quite a bit of wrist time.
  22. rag9fx, interesting that your insert is thin metal (same as my old TW 16610). I have had three MBW vintage sport models and all have had plastic inserts. They are quite sturdy and durable. I have one with a gen pearl & acrylic surround and it looks good......not as accurate as the hard as hell to source gen but very acceptable. BTW, I have a gen folded mid link bracelet for my Tudor Sub and never use it. I much prefer the after-market bracelet I fround at the Bay. Best of luck with your MBW project!
  23. It's a reasonable price if what you receive is 100% authentic parts. If it's from the Bay seller "time-holder", he seems to post pics of gen parts and sends something else. Another seller that claims to have the vintage OEM bezel/insert, shows a quantity of 25. Doubltful. The MBW insert is not too bad and the bezel is accurate (accepts OEM insert prefectly). It does need a pearl replacement to look more authentic. Once it's glued to the bezel, it's plenty rigid. It may strighten if heated with a hair dryer as its a plastic ring.
  24. As a suggestion, why not contact Steinhart? Perhaps they can repair the watch for you at a minimal cost, if not under warranty. Their customer service has an excellent reputation. This is one of the benefits of owning a gen so it may be worth giving it a try.
